Dead or Alive 4.

Now, I'm not a huge fan of fighting games, and most of my experience is through the Tekken series. I've been playing this game for a bit now, beat story mode once, and I've come to think that this is quite possibly the mos frustrating game ever.

Here's a tip: if the computer hits you, set your controller down. Their attack will take at least half of your life, and before you can get back up, they'll usually launch into another super combo, and take you out. In fact, put the controller down, and walk away for the TV for a bit. I reccomend this, because if you don't, you'll end up throwing your controller through the TV, and they're usually not cheap.

The graphics are great, the guys look cool, the women are appropriately bouncy, and yet, this game just screams, "HIGH LEARNING CURVE." If you don't know what the hell you're doing to start out with, you may want to save yourself some sanity, and play something that you've got a better chance at.

Like pong.

Play Phantom Brave on ps2, it is awesome, and my Healer is currently wielding a PINE TREE, a FULL SIZED-PINE TREE as a weapon...ftw!!!

And this game frustrates me further. I knocked my opponent into the side of the ring three times and won. Woo.

And somehow, inevitably, I will face an opponent, not lose any health, get them to the lowest possible level, and have them launch a massive combo that kills me.

Have you tried turning the AI down a little until you learn better? Did you play the tuturials if they have any?

The settings are normal, hard, and very hard. Naturally, it started me on normal.

Ten second grapples need to be nerfed. So do hazards. I died in eight seconds.
Simimi2006-03-03 09:20:30
use a different character?

Um.. don't these games have training modes these days? I felt the same way about Virtua Fighter 4 until I learned what the hell I was doing.

But you don't really come off as a gamer to me. ninja.gif

Not a gamer?

Right, I got into the sparring mode, and it had me do some basic attacks and stuff. I was never very good at Tekken anyway... Ah well, it's 1:30, I need sleep.

Not a gamer?

Yeah, but.. I won't go there. halo.gif

Eh, but keep at it. I had more fun with fighting games when I could actually play another person though.

Edit: Well, you know.. after sleep and work.

Don't worry man, fighting games with reasonable difficulty levels are still produced nowadays.
For example, my somewhat recent acquisition - Guilty Gear XX. Yeah, I know it's 2 years old, but it still counts as new in my book, and at least I had a chance to pick up the very-rare-outside-of-Japan Reloaded edition. Love the oldschool 2d-style graphics too.

Wahaha, Richter got owned so badly he had to let out his frustration through the only channel he knows how to.

I really don't think you've matured enough to recieve your posting privledges back. Pity the decision isn't up to me.

I haven't played Tekken for years, mostly due to not owning a PS. mad.gif IMO, I'd say King Of Fighters is harder. In DOA I can button bash and still beat my siblings. (but then that was in DOA 3 and earlier)
Daganev2006-03-07 02:32:01
DoA 4 is all about the counter moves.

But I agree, the game is either too easy or too hard.. You need to predict thier attacks and do the counter attack before they land the hit.

Its suppose to be "more realisitic"
Richter2006-03-07 07:44:52
I read a review in Game Informer, that said this one deviated from the usual DOA style of being a defensive fighting game. The window for predicting the opponent's moves has been reduced to next to nothing. I wanted to throw the controller at someone five minutes into playing this.

Ah well, I'll keep working at Quake 4 and wait for Oblivion.

It should be good. Read the latest previews for it? (I REALLY want it for PC, but I need some RAM and possibly a new video card.)
Aiwendil2006-03-14 07:23:24
Heh, I went to this IT show and tried DOA4 at the 360 booth. I beat the other guy there once, but lost the rest pretty narrowly. I blame it on the fact that he'd been standing there for hours beforehand (thus having practice). I'm not prepared to buy a 360 just for this game though.
Richter2006-03-14 17:08:40
If anything, buy it for Oblivion. I know I've got Karrah drooling after a 360 for that game alone...
