You don't seem to get the whole 'magical' aspect of these enchanted robes, do you?
You can raise a shield that will prevent all forms of physical attack, but you can't wrap your head around enchanted robes creating a field that slightly cushions a blow?

Erm, look cheesecake. Its not a matter of not getting it, I don't like it.
Hell, why not give the ability to enchant all sorts of clothing? I'd love to get fully prepped for battle by slipping into a lovely satin bra.

Cost of robes, plus mending, to make them last 200 months: Between 14000 and 15000 gold.
Cost of chainmail: 6000 gold, price escalates with stats.
So, yeah, chainmail is cheaper than great robes, and the stats aren't so much worse.
Actually I payed around 25k for my robes, and it costs around 4k each time to get them mended, and the mending can give you up to 65 months.
So that's around 325 months for 45k, for the ones I bought, in the situation I bought/mended them.
Differant statistics, same conclusions as Verithrax, robes cost more.

Edit: What if enchanted great robes only went up to a maximum of around 25/25, and could be combined with other forms of armour?
No, because then mages would be completely screwed.
If you get splendor robes and forget tailoring, can you keep the robes? And can you still mend and wear them?

Hrm, which brings me to the second question I asked, that no-one answered. It looks like mages are supposed to be the weakest defensively.

Who are you paying? You're getting MASSIVELY ripped off, it only costs 1100 gold to mend robes.
Vix2006-03-05 03:08:21
Hm, you say forgers don't get enough profit, but from what I understand, greatrobes are basically a tailor's sole source of good profit. They may sell trinkets like hats and skirts, but the amount they rake in isn't nearly as much as greatrobes sales (when they get lucky). Actually, from what Shorlen's said, greatrobes probably cause tailors to lose money.

Yes on the first part. You can still wear them also. But i'm not sure if other tailors can mend splendor robes that they didn't make.

Yes indeed, when I saw you saying you got those for 10k I flipped out here, at my computer. Keep them, forever and ever and ever, they are worth it.

They might be like full-plate, where you can wear it untill you take it off for the first time, at which time you can't re-wear it, since you don't have the tradeskill anymore.

If they were additional to armour, it wouldn't be a problem for tailors, would it?

What's this?? MAGES/DRUIDS can wear chainmail, but Guardians/Wiccans can only use leather?
Edit:I want some chainmail I can hide away, nice and shiney, and imbued with Moonlit silveryness from drawdown! (Not that it effects it's stats, but it's a nifty cool thing nontheless)

Nope, you can re-wear them even after removing them.

Greatrobes start at 0 affluence and get 'worse' every time their mended, as far as I understand it. So, what's 90% or whatever of 0? Still 0? I certainly think so.

Erm, not according to HELP ARMOUR.
QUOTE
Normal armour is something you wear that protects you from both types of
physical damage (cutting and blunt).
To see the status of your armor, type ARMSTAT. If your armor is damaged, you
will need to find a blacksmith to repair it for you.
The basic types of armour in Lusternia, aside from shields, are, in
ascending order of effectiveness, with the best armour an archetype may
wear listed:
Armour type............Archetypes which may wear them
-----------...............------------------------------
None..................Magi
Leather..............Wiccan, Druid
Scalemail
Chainmail...........Guardian
Field plate and
* Full plate............Warriors
* Full plate armour is a bit different, in that the only warriors who may
wear it are those who have forged it for themselves.
Armour Statistics
-----------------
Non-magical armour and shields have two armour-specific statistics:
protection vs. cutting damage and protection vs. blunt damage. The
WEAPONPROBE ability in the Combat skill will allow you to see these
statistics on a piece of armour or on a shield.
When being struck by a weapon on a specific body part, armour will only
protect you if it is worn over that part. For example, wearing chainmail
leggings will protect you from a knight striking your legs with a scimitar,
but it will not help you if he strikes your head. For that you would need a
helmet or armour coif.

*boggle* you can mend and rewear and all that stuff? wow, that's got to be the best tradeskill to give up then, everything else eventually decays and you eventually lose your bonus from it, or in some cases lose the bonus instantly (poisons/herbs)
Vix2006-03-05 03:25:16

Like I said, I don't know if a different tailor can mend splendor robes he didn't make, but you can wear them even without the tradeskill so long as you're the one who made them.
