I just came back from seeing my first movie in the theaters in the past 4 months... I saw ultraviolet... I enjoyed it.

I came to a wonderfull conclusion that I had forgotten about since I went a year abroad, Movies are MUCH better when you know nothing about them.

I went to see ultraviolet thinking it was a ninja assasin movie that takes place in the future. And I had no idea it was based on any comics. I wasn't that far off, but being mostly incorrect about what I was expecting made the movie Awesome...

thoughts?

I think you're right. The lower expectations you have going in, the more pleasantly surprised you can be.

There is a limit though... I want to know at least enough not to walk into a teenage comedy movie, for instance. Or an exclusively action movie. sick.gif

Its not the lower expectations for me...

For example, I did not know that Darth Maul had a dual lightsaber before I saw the movie, and when the Dual Lightsaber came out, that brief half second was a nice pleasant surprise.

Also, when I saw the movie the Island, knowing nothing about it, the slow steady revelation that the island doesn't really exist was pretty cool.

Same thing happened to me in Ultraviolet. Not knowing what it was about, they were able to slowly surprise me with facts and hints that they slowly dropped.

Memoirs of a Geisha? chin.gif

That sounds intersting...

For making my fiance see ultraviolet (even though she admits it was good for what it was).. I have to see failure to launch next. and then I'm going to see V is for Vendata in the imax.. when Geisha comes out on dvd I'll go see it.

Oh, and the beginging to Ultraviolet is pretty bad CG, quite dissapointed with that part. But it turns out better.

I want to see V for Vendetta. I saw the poster for it, no commercials at all, so I have barely any idea what to expect

Whoa, I just looked up the movies showing at my local theater. They're showing stuff like Curious George, Date Movie, and the Pink Panther. Yeecck. Only one possibly worth seeing would probably be Curious George because I know nothing about it and it was cute as a book.

Firewall looks good though.

Memoirs looked good, and V for Vendetta looks awesome.

It has Natalie Portman. What more do you need to know?

I am now going to say 'hot grits' and give 22 points to whomever knows why I said that.

I'm also going to say that one of the many reasons the Pink Panther movie was horrible is the amazingly high expectations anyone who's seen the original has.

That and the fact that they let Leslie "Naked Gun was the best 3 movies I've ever made" Nielson play Inspector Clouseau. MISTAKE.

I can't get over Steve Martin's brown moustache but white hair. sad.gif

Hmm...my bad. I watched the preview on imdb a long time ago and decided it wasn't worth my time. Steve Martin isn't much better though.

I made the mistake of going to see the Harry Potter movies with high expectations of them. Hey...the books rocked my socks, BUT there's always a huge disappointment with them leaving out favorite parts of the books and changing this and that to fit into two and a half hours. So...I went into the 4th movie with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised with it.
