You should be automatically able to defend anyone from your city without them actually having to ally you.
In fact, you should auto-defend anyone from your city without even having to use the command DEFEND.

I defended Telum without him allying me and got suspect on Pentu (That will teach me to actually fight back)
Shamarah2006-03-09 23:01:07
That's my point. You CAN'T defend someone who doesn't have you allied.

I guess I worded it wrong. I defended Telum. He doesnt have me allied. Pentu killed me. I karma cursed Pentu
Xavius2006-03-10 19:50:06
No you didn't. You get an error message when you try to defend someone who doesn't have you allied.
And Amaru, defend is used only for people who have already been declared. That's the whole point.

Peh. In my experience..
Amaru defends Thoros
Thoros gets declared/attacked by Kaervas
Amaru can attack Kaervas.
But
Thoros gets declared/attacked by Kaervas
Amaru defends Thoros
Amaru can't touch Kaervas.
Xavius2006-03-10 20:07:36
Is Thoros already dead? Did Thoros mistakenly declare Kaervas to defend himself? (Don't laugh, it happens fairly often.) As far as I know, those are the only two conditions.
ferlas2006-03-10 20:08:04
It shouldn't work like that amaru, if it is its bugged
It should be
Thoros gets attack by kaervas
amaru defends thoros
amanru can hit kaervas
EDIT: The only problem I see with the avenger at the moment is for example
I declare and attack sivriel
sivriel runs away,
arennra defends sivirel
arennra can attack me and I cant attack her.
I'd like defending to be made a neutral action I can kill someone whos defended my target and not get status and they can kill me and not get status. Because you decided to defend so you are opening yourself up to conflict

It definitely sounds like Thoros is declaring at some point here.

I forgot to consider the person in question. Is this only a problem you have with Thoros? 10 credits says he declared him four minutes earlier thinking he could jump Kaervas, but Kaervas beat him to the punch.

Nah, this was a totally theoretical example of how I thought it works.

Nope. It never has worked this way. Truly, the system is designed to make a Champion's job very easy... assuming your guild mates actually remember to ally you. Have the rescue alias rescue and defend them at the same time, and you're ready to go.
Edit: And, of course, assuming that they didn't initiate hostilities and then cry for help.

Is that why Viravain once turned up at the Pool, threatened me, and then took every item by force from my inv which I'd just taken from Richter, and gave it all back to him? Right.
Murphy2006-03-11 14:23:02
You did it out of spite, Yrael does it because he's messed up.
