That has nothing to do with the city being in a state of disrepair. In fact, I'd think it was in a state of disrepair if Catarin had trusted your word over Thoros'

Maybe Cityleaders are the single most important people in their respective cities, and carry the entire representation of such on their shoulders.
Maybe.
Usually CL's have the unique ability to 'make or break' their organization.
Usually.
One decision you disagree with obviously means the city is on the brink of ruin

Or.. that poor decision is symptomatic of a history of mis-governance?

Honestly, that whole thing played out well. If I were to analyze it, it's simply a case of an 'ism'. Ixion was just not trusted because he is Tainted. The parties can play around it but it's discrimination, pure and simple.
Which, given the context of Celest and Magnagora, makes perfect sense.
Blah, Catarin even states OOCly that Ixion is probably in the right. The thing is, this ISN'T OOC we're talking about. This isn't the 'truth', this is how the story needs to read.
As such, everyone here CALM DOWN. You can get angry at the chracters, but be angry just as you'd be angry at storybook characters (Stupid Sandra, stop with the Cinderella Complex! God, Rand's an idiot sometimes. Catarin, Just go out and say "YOU TAINT, ME WISH YOU DIE!" and get over with it..*).
Sidenote: It's somewhat ICish of me but I can't be TOOO TOO sad at Ixion not leaving. I love him in the Ur'Guard . That's selfish of me though, sorry Ixion.
* No, I don't realy see your character that way, Cat: RL or my character (the latter doesn't really know you). I just needed something to link it together bluntly. As you said: it's sad but it's how the story goes.

I personally think Celest is looking pretty nice now, as compared to say, late December, as I have said many times on the forums. Our city is doing pretty good now, we're nice and well off, all thanks to the work of many of us, working together, for one goal.
Isn't it sweet?

My favorite thing about this whole matter is how thoros managed to lose celest a powerful knight who would have been joining them. Let's face it, they need the help.

Pet RP peeve: Real people are not one-dimensional. Characters, by extension, should not be one-dimensional.
"I don't think Thoros was telling the truth, but we have to believe our citizens."
No, you are still free to question idiots. If you have a child that you know is a compulsive liar and a bit of a bully, and he comes walking in with a crying little girl, are you going to scold the girl for trying to get him in trouble when he says he didn't do it? That's stupid.
"I can't question Thoros because he outranks me and he's Amaru's son!"
Does he outrank you because he's done good for the guild, or because he's a brute who found favor with Amaru? If the boss appoints his son as supervisor of an important department and he does a hack job, are you supposed to keep quiet? No, you have an obligation to bring it up with the boss. If the boss protects him for the sole reason that they're related, you raise the nepotism flags and get stuff done yourself.
accually I'm GR5 he is GR4, I accually disfavoured him once for a valid reason and lets just say if I do it again I'm without a guild.
And it's just as good RP to have some fear within your character and to discriminate against the taint (if you are in Celest).
Catarin2006-03-08 21:01:04
Thanks Cwin. ICly Catarin has NO reason not to trust Thoros. Yes, I read the forums, I see that he's really bloodthirsty and seems to kill just for the fun of it and is probably pretty close to being a griefer. I see he overlinks. But Catarin doesn't see that IC. No one has ever spoken a bad word to her about Thoros except a passing remark by Athana. This incident might prompt her to watch him a little more closely since even though she knows Ixion is tainted and thus tragically insane, she also sees him as being relatively trustworthy.
It would have been consistent or even good RP for her to just say "Yeah, sorry Thoros, I'm gonna take the Ur'guard's word on this. Even though our laws very specifically say I should take yours, I have no reason not to, and he very clearly broke our laws by pursuing you for retribution for your actions in Shallach."? Not really.
From a purely OOC perspective with all the available information it's easy to say "well, Thoros obviously is lying". Things aren't so clear IC and Catarin can only go on the information she has at any given time. Things would get pretty boring if all our characters were right all the time and had access to vast amounts of information. I'm not playing this game to "win" so I'm not going to sacrifice Catarin's RP just to try to secure a new powerful Knight for the city.

I'm curious as to how the agreement was stated. For example, did Ixion have the "right" to kill someone outside of "defending territory" at a later date?
The reason I ask is because if he chased them into the Catacombs, then he was no longer on "defending turf." Ixion bashes the Catacombs just like everyone else. If there was no stipulation he could kill at a later time in a different territory, I don't see the injustice.

It was merely that defending the Ur'dead, Magnagora territories, etc would not get him reenemied to the city as defending something you have a valid claim to is not an aggression against Celest and thus not a violation of the laws.
It wasn't even an "agreement". It's not like he had special things he could do that wouldn't get him enemied. The agreement was he wouldn't be enemied unless he broke a law.
