Explain then. What does it mean?

No.
Becasue I can't seem to engage anyone in a serious discussion, and this thread is certainly not the place for it.

However in the context of this thread:

You might:
1. Choose a race based on a character concept. And select city guild to match that characters outlook.
2. Choose a race / guild combination to maximise combat potential.

I found it quite humerous that someone would attempt to pass off the second option as a 'roleplaying' choice.
This is an example of how (and why) roleplaying is an optional component of Lusternia. (and no, don't bother trying to dispute this).

The interesting argument is:
'Is optional roleplay a necessary component of a game such as Lusternia?'

Most Merian lord do pretty good as paladins. Especially with surge they become damn tanky with. Those lighting and fire weakness can be kind of overlookd at higher levels because with surge most damage knights(they are the only ones that use lighnitng or fire attacks with artie runes) won't be able to kill you with damage.

May I share in that drug-induced hallucination?

<-- merian lord surging to 7k health, will still die to ixion damage if he doesn't remember numen (and thus most of his nifty sacraments/lunge offence is gone.)

And its still pretty crap: 18 base str (19 with highmagic, lucky freaks), no speed bonuses, 700cr on weapons turns us into dead frogs. The regen in water is nice for bashing but with post-nerf weapons we don't have anything going for us.

Now, if someone would shout me a cameo (and cubix) I'll try other races and get back to ya..

So their great against everyone expect artifacted damage knigths....you know what I dont go to good against ixion myself funny that?

I'm not sure about them being 'great' either. I do OK wounding/damage as a merian paladin and I'd probably do more damage with Highmagic +1 str, but an Aslaran Ur'Guard is going to have 1 less str than me BUT have +2 speed.

Not all the time, merian have a base of 4 better than aslaran, ur'guard bonuses neutralise themselfs anyway so on average merian are 4+ strength better than aslaran lich.

hmm merian paladin over aslaran...Nah. Remember kids. Speed kills and with the style of combat now days. Speed+wounding=dead. And on a side note Merian make great steak. Eat one once a day to keep the merian away.

Aslaran for solo combat.

Loboshigaru for group combat.
