I bought an Xbox 360 just for this game. None of you will see me for weeks on end, I'm sure.

That's one of the reasons I got it. You should IM me on MSN or AIM while you play, tell me how it's going for you.
Asarnil2006-03-21 19:03:50
Richter is slow.

http://www.facegen.com/ is the modelling software they use for the character generation in Oblivion, and you can download the demo copy and play with it yourself. It IS pretty damned impressive.
Ashteru2006-03-21 19:39:54
Well my american friends.....TELL ME HOW IT IS!

I'll get it on 24th...and I probably won't go out of my room for some days. ninja.gif
Asarnil2006-03-21 20:28:19
Its about two hours until it comes out here, unfortunately I don't have the money for it yet sad.gif I gotta wait a week or so unless a mate is kinda enough to lend me the money for a copy.
Ashteru2006-03-21 20:45:46
I'd already sit there and camp it out.... ninja.gif
Richter2006-03-21 23:24:13
I've now had it for two hours, and it's sat on my desk, while I take calls, untill I can be home in front of my TV, in 2.5 more hours. Can you imagine how crazy it's making me?

I got the inch-thick strategy guide for the heck of it, and the special edition, which came with a moderately large in-character guidebook, a special edition in-character coin, and a nice foldout box that looks like the Lord of the Rings extended version boxes. Lastly, there's some kind of a bonus disc.

Wheeee.
Ashteru2006-03-21 23:39:44
I looked how much the US Collectors would cost here in europe, it's ~80 euros.... sad.gif My bank will probably burn me when I get it and the strategy guide (Which I won't use to complete the game, I'll use it to not get withdrawels when sitting in school or somewhere else)
Now, hopefully my bank doesn't screw completely up. Waiting for 5 weeks now that my account gets transferred from one bank to the other. If I don't have it on Monday, I'll probably just rob it since I am already there.

Alright. I got the game and I'm playing without a strategy guide so my opinion of the game is based soley on the fact that everywhere I go I'm being attacked no matter what the heck I do....I have to say, the NPCs in Morrowind are bloodthirsty! Oh my gods, I could cry! Anyways, these are my thoughts of it so far, in order-

Yes, I am a sexy dark elf but that doesn't mean I need to hear it from a crazy pervert in the next cell. D:

WOOHOO! Punch Uriel! Punch Uriel!

Killer rats! GO FOR THE JUGULAR!

YAY RANDOM ZOMBIE!

The system to use skills is kinda ackward but I'll manage. Nice that I can use spells AND wield my sword. Very very nice.

I go to a town that doesn't like strangers but I need to sleep...the whole town follows me into the room and proceeds to try to beat me up. O_o

Their faces are very scary when they don't like you...I mean, honestly....I actually was startled and slightly offended. They reminded me of the people I help at work. *shudder*

I have to say that I like the interaction between NPCs....when they're not all trying to kill me...

...FINE! I'll steal your clothes!

Omg! Man in the fireplace and tons of bones in the attic. What the heck kind of a town IS this. O_O

Erm.....you really want a level 1 to fight Dremoras and scamps?.....guess you do....

Oi, the game creators seemed to really like being morbid and gory this game. Random heads, OPEN CORPSE commands....Body Mashers.....

Okay...I save your town...help you with assasins but when I sit on the wrong horse...KILL HER! What the heck! We were going to use all three ANYWAYS.... Then I have to knock Martin and Jauffre out just so we can continue our journey...mind you, I have to KEEP doing this every 2 minutes or so just to keep you quiet. Dammit.

More thoughts later. I have to go cry in the corner now.

*pst, you're not in Morrowind, you're in Cyrodil* wink.gif

Anyway, you're right about the controlls being kind of awkward, but after a few hours of playing around, I'm getting used to them, and the hotkey with the D pad is kind of nice.

I really need an HD TV though.

I spent a bit getting out of the prison/sewers, then I explored the first big ruins you see outside, but I ran out of lockpicks, so I quit that. I went back to the capitol city and played around the various districts. I realized you can make good money early on with alchemy, just mix -everything-, then sell the lame potions to someone for more than the ingredients cost. I tried to go back and do the main quest, but I saw a sheep I had to cast a fire spell on. It ran off, and I chased it for about five minutes across the world, and it finally lost me (running and casting fireballs at a moving target is -really- hard). Then I went back, and learned about Martin, and had to go to bed.

I've gotten further then ever into Morrowind. That is, I've found the dwemer puzzle box and that random skull. Go me. happy.gif

I'm going to fill up my xbox with morrowind saves because I save every 10 minutes or so tongue.gif

Oopsie! Minor mistake there. I mean Cyrodil. ^^;

Anyways, I'm just talking about what happened as I did the main quest. I haven't entered any cities yet so I know that my opinion thus far is biased due to the fact that I'm a level 1 character blindly stumbling along the main quest without nifty armor, weapons, or magic. That'll be what I do as soon as I get the chance. Right now my little brother is playing so when he's done, I'll jump on and make a new character. If you play through the Main Quest a bit, you'll see what I'm saying though.

There's seriously this one village where I paid to spend the night at an inn....and half the village followed me into the room, glaring at me and not letting me sleep....then they all decided to kill me. Didn't work, but still...I'm guess I'm just upset that the NPCs hate me so much. unsure.gif

Then again, this town WAS right next to a farm where a man was roasting in an oven and the attic was full of skeletons and the rooms were all torn apart. Maybe they're killer NPCs....I hope there's a quest to kill them all cause that's exactly what I did. biggrin.gif

I'm halfway through the main quest in Morrowind. This time I'm going for Orc bashing fun.
Richter2006-03-22 21:19:56
Just remember, you can't expect to be a level 1 character, and walk around the world destroying everything. You're going to get the crap knocked out of you. Instead, do the main quest, level up some stuff (lots of jumping, running, sneaking, speachcraft minigame, using alchemy). Also, make sure you know exactly how you minor and major skills and stats all work together. That's more important than they let on.
Emilynn2006-03-22 23:23:30
Aaaaarg! That's what I said I was doing. I had jumped right into the main quest, not even realizing that I'd be able to kill practically everything at level 1 without getting knocked down even to half my health once. I'd assumed I'd be beaten up only to find that I was capable of killing entire towns. I was just giving an opinion based solely on the fact that everywhere I went, people wanted to beat me up. biggrin.gif
Suhnaye2006-03-25 06:32:15
Damnit... All the 360's are sold out here... and to get em online they cost a fortune. I woulda got one when they came out, but I was broke back then. *Pouts*
Navaryn2006-03-25 14:35:48
I'm curious. Have they improved how combat works? Or is it still 'close in to your opponent and repeatedly press the same button over and over'?
Ashteru2006-03-25 14:37:39
Can't wait....I should get my imported US collectors edition on monday or tuesday....drool.gif

And Navaryn, now it's realistic. You can push a blockputton and all, and you can avoid strikes too. Different target zones too, I believe.

I'm not going for oblivion. Hated morrowind. Played it rather a lot, then just found it so mind-numbingly slow and boring.

On the other hand, Fallout 3, if Bethesda get around to developing/finishing/releasing it, will make me disappear for an extended period of time >.>

Unless they release it, but screw it. You know it can happen.
Asarnil2006-03-25 19:59:58
Kashim take that back! They would have to hire all of ID Software to screw up a title like Fallout 3.
Unknown2006-03-25 20:12:50
You're right, better not to speak my (our) worst fear out loud.
