Wildnodes...

Back to Common Grounds.

I don't bother with wildnodes anymore, but good work Magnagora and Glomdoring.

I don't see the results changing any time soon.

Can't wait for envoys. Even if demesnes are made worthless, and mages are given nothing to compensate, I'd view it as an improvement.

Just a quick thought, I think the problem with Wild Nodes is the simplicity. There isn't that much room to be creative, strategic, etc. If you want to look at say village influencing, you can debate others, run away from others, attack others, sanctuary to stop attacks, crusade to stop sanctuary, etc. etc. etc.

I also think the reward for winning wilde nodes is way too freakin high. I mean seriously, a single wild nodes event with a good final score basically boils down to like what... 4-5 villages? And it -cannot- be challenged (whereas you can raid villages, influence them with paranoia, etc).

Are demesnes really the problem? I really don't think so. The problem imo is the summoning and if removed, I think it will be a whole different issue. You can enter/break a mega demesne with no fear whatsoever of being yanked elsewhere. This challenges the core of demesnes currently: mass area stablility.

That's huge.

Rubble, gas, dust storm, rockslide, currents, deluge + needlerain. I just hate everything about demesnes. Could be a personal issue, I guess...

It would have opened up quite a few options for us, actually. And meant that Magnagora couldn't have played quite as defensively, or we would have taken out all of their demesne while they stood at the Megalith, grabbing a few of the nodes on the way.

Yeah. But due to the unique nature of Astral (demesne effects not working in different areas and each sphere being a different area), most of that isn't a problem. The effects can only be active on one sphere at a time. This makes it a lot easier to deal with demesnes, ESPECIALLY when the owner is playing defensive.

this is a teeny-tiny bit off topic but why are wildnodes always every other sunday at X time. I'm always going to have to leave when it starts due to some ecclesiastical obligations sad.gif Can it be varied a little bit?
Narsrim2006-03-20 01:36:48
Several envoys suggested weathersight (ie. trans worthless) provide the ability to see through dust storm. I think this has potential to clear up a lot of geomancer hate.

I don't like rockslide, rubble, etc... but dust storm is just bleh.

That's another excellent point. Why Sunday?

I don't like how it has a schedule of sorts. It just allows for even more pre-wild node prep.

Narsrim2006-03-20 01:40:03
Wild Nodes from what I can tell is usually the same people. Every time... same people... not what I call enticing for the player base as a whole because a lot of them can't even be here. I think this is a solid issue to be addressed.
Shamarah2006-03-20 02:40:11
You guys are talking about rubble and duststorm? Complain about the real evil: Stonewalls.

Xenthos2006-03-20 02:40:51
I believe that I already mentioned them. There was really only one way to "sneak" past the bloody things, what with demesne summon.
Shamarah2006-03-20 02:41:24
I was talking to Narsrim and Acrune.

The four orgs COULD sit back and try running a wild nodes with no demesne and actually TRY to see what the gameplay would be like. You know, without having the Admin 'nerf' demesnes.

Then y'all could come back here after said player-run event and discuss the positive/negative aspects of it.

Unfortunately I think most people here will be greedy little shits, see that they're not absolutely winning and thus try to meld about 5 minutes into the game. That itself wouldn't be so bad: we'd at least get to see what the game is like if there wasn't a massive astral-wide meld when wild nodes started.

I say: Down with asking the Admin to do stuff players COULD do themselves! RAH!

No chance no ones giving up that much of an advantage when you can demensce the whole plane and just sit back and summon to win.
