What abilities in tracking do you lose with the companion?
Richter2006-03-30 18:39:15
Anything you could command the creature to do, other than basic mob commands. You can order it to follow and kill, you lose every other ability.

Because I'm not in a city or commune, I can no longer make a wolf or dog listen to me... You can't even begin to justify that, like you can with mages/guardians/etc losing power skills when they change, because I should still be able to order around a stupid animal, regardless of if I just left or not.

Or, maybe we can. My wolf (if I actually had the tracking specialization, because rogues can't specialize) just feels really awful about me getting kicked out of Glomdoring. So much so, that he will only follow me and kill things. He's stopped doing tricks for me, until I join a guild, because his feelings were hurt.

!@#$%^& wolf.

Maybe mercenary isn't quite the right word. I was thinking of more of an independent fighter, bashes a lot, has his own interests (and that of his fellow fighters) in mind, and doesn't get deeply involved in other orgs. Hiring people would just get you enemied instantly.

So what would be the point?
Ildaudid2006-03-30 19:26:26
Richter, were you trans Tracking before you left or just a Hunter and now you cant learn anymore tracking. I'm asking because I have an alt who is planning on going rouge in the future but if you lose all that what is the point of going rouge then.
Arix2006-03-30 20:19:44
Hey Richter, why not join Celest? I think one of our guilds can take tracking

I uh... Look, a distraction! *runs*

But really, it just sounded to me like Estarra had something in mind for them, to be able to actually function without affiliation. Right now, I don't care about joining cities or communes, or working for someone else, I think it would just be nice to function well. If Estarra comes out and says, "What crack are you on?", then I'll shut up.

I was trans tracking a while ago. When I was kicked from the commune, I was trans night, and I chose hunting before I was kicked from the guild. So, right now I'm at master hunting, and cannot specialize into tracking. If you're going rogue, specialize first.

Because it wouldn't make sense. And yes, every org has a guild that can take tracking.

What are those tricks though? Are we talking 10 abilities of the skillset? Or like, two?
Unknown2006-03-31 03:31:09
You could strike a deal with one of the warrior guilds somewhere. Pay them a fee, let you join, do some training, and leave.

I mean, think college - you pay them, they let you come and learn, and then you leave. Same thing, except tracking smile.gif.

Closer to ten total commands you can use with him.

Which are what... BOND MOVE, BOND LOOK?

The only one I know of that is a considerable loss is the seek/unite thing. But you have to expect -some- disadvantage to going rogue.
Rakor2006-03-31 05:08:55
BOND LOOK
BOND MOVE
BOND LISTEN
BOND ATTACK
BOND RECALL
BOND TRACK
BOND SEEK
BOND RETRIEVE
BOND RELEASE
BOND DELIVER TO
Clamp
Unite
Unknown2006-03-31 05:10:55
To me, Unite, Seek and Clamp are the only important losses. The others are pretty, but you're not really disadvantaged, are you?

Three things a rogue can't do isn't too bad.

I use everything but deliver, release, and track on a regular basis. I would feel disadvantaged without them, yes, but I don't know what Richter would use. Depends on how he plays his character.

Bond look and bond move are great for exploring, scouting, getting somewhere fast, avoiding certain denizens, etc.

Bond listen is perfect for listening to things while deaf.

Bond attack is the same as order hound to attack, pretty much, except it can be done from a distance, which I haven't really found that useful. Maybe if it could be ordered to follow from a distance also it would be a little more useful.

Bond recall is essential, of course.

Bond seek I use all the time, for both people and items, to unite to.

Bond retrieve is great for getting gold from a bashing trip gone wrong, and various other things.

Clamp is fairly useful.

Unite is extremely useful.

Ok, looks like everyone ignored me... anyway.. didn't Marus join every org and help them for a while and then move to another org and kept switching back and forth?

By design, if you take up Tracking, you are already at a disadvantage over the other skillchoices because of its neutrality. Also by design Trackers do not rely on any particular type of power. The fact that you cannot get an animal if you are not affliated with any organisations is probably an oversight. I really can't see the reason behind not providing a means for a neutral tracker to get a new pet, other than the divine are extremely busy with other stuff.

Perhaps make it so Trackers can find an bond certain types of animals from the wild like ecologists, instead of requesting one from the kennels?
Unknown2006-03-31 11:47:24
Assuming a rogue Tracker could gain a companion, what abilities would they lose in comparison to a loyal Tracker?

It does seem like an oversight, but I think the best way to fix it would be to give Bob a kennel. I wouldn't want anything other than a dog when using the BOND abilities. It wouldn't make as much sense. Although I guess a gravedigger would be okay...

I like the uniqueness of each different companion, even if it is only an aesthetic thing.

None. That's sort of the point of being a tracker. If you go rogue, you don't lose any abilities.
Richter2006-03-31 21:06:01
To answer the question, when I had tracking before, I used every single one of those commands.

No it's not. It's that you lose a minimal amount of skills.

Except, if you're a tracker, and you go rogue.. you can no longer Track.. they should really change the skillset name to Trapping.
