Moonbeam shouldn't work indoors. It's a bloody moonbeam. Moonburst can't be fired from outside to inside (see Rage coven). Moonbeam should not be able to go through walls either.
That is all!
That is all!

arn't you an envoy...
Xenthos2006-04-09 17:23:16
Envoy reports are somewhat lacking at the moment, Dag. The envoy report we've submitted hasn't been started, much less the next one after it (which this suggestion would get put onto). Thus, I've got plenty of time for posting an idea in the Ideas forum.

Demesnes likewise weren't supposed to work indoors. Roark this at one point, but it was later realized that given the vast amount of indoor rooms, that would be silly. However, the same argument applies. As for the moon beam, its magic. It goes through walls... and when I dance down it, I'm in a non-physical form.
In all seriousness though, moon beam is fine. I don't know if you've played other IRE games, but it is exactly like prism tattoo (and interestingly enough, people attempted and failed to make this same indoor argument). It is isn't unbalanced because it works in doors - it is simply annoying to people who want to hole up in a room.
With a monolith in the room, beam takes -12- seconds to complete (that's freakin huge). Without a monolith, it takes 6 seconds, which is slightly faster than teleport to the person.

Don't know what the message for a prism tattoo is, but saying "it's magic" doesn't fly, as I remember someone dragging out Vis's Idiots! post about Moonburst hitting indoors when it shouldn't have. There really should be no difference between Moonburst from a distance, and Moonbeam from a distance in terms of how they work.

That was a balance issue. This isn't.

Working indoors isnt to bad, i'd prefer it not to work to stock rooms though, its still the best skill for stealing around at the moment, or have some form of prevention like every other travel skill.
Its not really a big issue at the moment though but as you said from the sounds of it envoys arnt going through for some time so may as well chuck around ideas.

If a room is sealed, it really doesn't matter how long it takes to moonbeam in.

Oh? Not working indoors stops / changes multiple tactics, which could indeed be viewed as balance issues. Not the least of which is the whole stockroom bit.

As a side note achaea envoys seem to be going through now, so hopefully ours are comming anyway.

My problem with the skill isn't so much that it works indoors, as the fact that it is only available to Serenwilde. Really, prism should not have been to only one organization, everyone should have access to it or no one.

The same could be said for many abilities.

There are only two types of abilities I'd like to see downgraded: 1) not mine and 2) yours. That is all.
Unknown2006-04-09 18:26:25
How about just not working through magically reinforced doors. i.e Stockrooms? Or maybe there should be a skill in planar that magically reinforces walls, thus stopping moonbeam from passing through?

My point was that some essential components such as the tattoos of the other games should have not have had their availability limited to one organization. To give a example, what if it hadn't been prism, what if it had been tentacle and hexagram didn't exist in its current form. But instead only Glomdoring had it, now that would essentially means that most organizations would have no counter to dancers with sylph, and no counter against aerial attacks other than by shielding.
You can also look at other skills in the same vein, uniqueness is good, but sometimes it can be wrong as well. Prism should not been exclusive to only one organization and there are several situations where that is absolutely apparent. Such as when great pentagram is used to block off a room, only Serenwilde and Trackers can get past that, no one else can, and to say that is not a massive advantage is to be either willfully ignorant or blatantly biased.

The stockroom issue is relatively unrelated. Stockrooms are special cases and have special rules for them. In Aetolia, there was a room flag that could be added to a room to stop prism tattoo. It was never added to stockrooms. The policy (which has been relatively upheld in Lusternia) is that you have time to move (12 seconds with a mono in the stockroom). Given the vast defenses of a city/commune, you should be able to correct the situation.

Nah people who have common sense know when to ask for downgrades to themselves, like pooka!
But really moon beam is the best thieving skill because it works in stock rooms aside from that Im not to bothered by its great utility use just the potential for theivey.
