In regards to Starsteel,
I wish to formally vote down *anything* that remotely gives more magical protection. As it stands, magic protection needs a total overhaul because its far to excessive for a single damage type. For example, a -22- int moonburst can pull UNDER 100 damage on certain race/class comboos. Nada - no more magic protection. When things aren't so behind, I do intend to present this at a future envoy summit, but until then, lets hand out other protections! Asphyxia? Psychic? Fire? Electricity? All of these need -more- protections but magic certainly does not. /hijack

Alright. Psychic damage. There's nothing to protect from that one yet.

Tongue tractor. The ship sends its tongue to lick up the corpeses. Yumm

I know you guys are overwhelmed with projects, but if that one little idea you had prepared could be implemented while aethership specs are being put on hold, it would be fantastic. Just so there is a little gold/other reward for crewing.
You can't even pay people to crew apparently at the moment.

You're Elryn. And a Seren. And an enemy.
Otherwise, I might've looked into it, just for the unique experience. Xen's just barely getting started on aether exploration due to the Faethorn stuff.
Verithrax2006-04-13 01:36:43
It would be very nice to see the Aetherways become something useful and good. Ideally, a small ship should be able to pay for itself after a reasonable length of time without flooding the market with gold. That way we'll get more ships, and the Aetherways might someday become something everyone can easily get involved with.

I'm not an enemy of Magnagora anymore because I'd like to be able to draw on a wider crew pool. I've tried making up with Glomdoring before, and you know it isn't happening.
I still think Glom should buy an aethership as a commune, by the way. You seem to be the only ones without a publicish ship to have some fun in.

Algontherine Spice: A substance secreted by Algontherines very, very, very slowly. It congeals into tiny clumps that can be scooped up from Aetherspace; clumps (Or 'spice fields') appear randomly and explode after a while, so you have to take what you can and run.

Why did it take you so long to realize that? It does have an uniquely Lusternian twist. Besides, a reference here and there is always fun. *COUGHELP HELP I'M BEING REPRESSEDCOUGH*

Shussshh!!! There are secret plans!
Although it does seem like aether ships will become vital for events and quests soon, if faethorn was an example of things to come.

A few other ideas for items that would be both consumable and availiable only in very small quantities (One is generated every Lusternian month or so). You would only be able to use them once a day. Again, the idea is that they'd fetch absurd prices. They would not crash the market since you're not dumping gold into the game, you're making it circulate.
Quickening juice: A special fluid made from large amounts of Aetheric spice. Comes in ten-sip phials. It instantaneously transfers ten Power from your reserves to you, needs balance and equilibrium to use.
Worry decanter: A glass container filled with gas. Drop it and it breaks causing random effects on you and allies, curing afflictions, healing health or restoring mana.
Raw powerplex: While held in your inventory, it saps energy from your reserves. You can TOUCH STONE to transfer energy into your reserves; it takes balance and equilibrium, transfers at Nexus speed, and stops transferring as soon as you move or do anything that takes balance or equilibrium. Holds a maximum of twenty Power. Riftable.
Gnomish worm: While held in your inventory, it produces one silk commodity every eight Lusternian days. Dies randomly in 200 months or less.
Reverberation crystal: When dropped in a room, it relays Aetheric communication, allowing anyone in the room to listen and talk as if they had Broadcast. (This would obviously be much more common and cheap.)

That would obviously be very rare.
Verithrax2006-04-14 05:00:15
Not so much. Their only real purpose is making Power transfers easier and serving as a personal micronexus that holds 10% reserves. It should be rare and powerful enough to fetch some impressive prices. You can't use it to increase personal reserves, for example, since you have to be standing still to transfer Power to yourself.

Oh, I was actually going to make a smartass remark about making spice runs, and dropping your cargo at the first sight of an imperial ship.
"Look, I can make the aether run in less than 12 parsecs, she's fast enough for you."
Hazar2006-04-14 16:05:21
I have an aethership. I'm Glom. Now, if I could a turret, an empath, and crew...
Maybe I need to offer some kind of buy-in.

No. Dear god no. That's just too much, no matter how rare it is.
The Gnomish Worm should produce silk less often, but other than that, I like all these ideas. Too bad it will be so long before anything like them gets implemented. Aetherships have potential, but with the way they are right now, flying about is mostly a waste of time.

Name for Module: Algontherine Tongue
EDIT: and the stroage box-place would be the tummy.

Maybe if it took five seconds of equilibrium. The point would be to let people who def up with Power def up faster, and let Astrologers cast astrospheres faster, and so on.
As for the worm... It would be saving a tailor about 200 gold every month, give or take.

Assault head, assault head, cleave leg, assault head, sip power potion, assault head, assault head, cleave leg, assault head.
You're not applying out of that one, even if it is five seconds.
