Solo in the Aetherspace

I'm not someone who yet owns a manse or an aethership, and I haven't spent more than about 10 lessons on learning Aethercraft. I've never been out in anyone else's aethership, either. I have no idea what Aetherspace is really like and how it all works.

So, my question is this: is it feasible for someone to purchase a simple one or two room manse and be able to pilot the Aetherspace all on their own? I mean, does it require a certain number of rooms, modules, or crew members as a minimum? I'd like to know before I save up for a manse that I can some day pilot around, my own little row boat, if you will. Thanks.

Yeah you can pilot solo, it's just a matter of if you take damage you're gonna have problems and nobody to heal.

Saran often jumps in his ship and flies it over to Candyland.

It's not possible to survive all that long if you ever get hit, but if your just going to be bolting to the aetherbubbles you should be fine.

I go on trips all by myself all the time because my ship is fast enough not to get hit by monsters. If you go past them really quickly they cannot catch you.

A one room ship ROCKS. <3 Catarin's ship. Its soooooo fast.
Unknown2006-04-11 18:26:58
Not, You ship would implode before you could say "Empathy."
Catarin2006-04-11 18:33:24
To travel, a one room ship is the way to go. If you know what you're doing (and don't get hit by lag) you're not going to get hit. Catarin flits around Astral with tendrils of Kethuru chasing her on a regular basis and hasn't exploded once. Of course, Catarin doesn't really have good sense. If you do get hit, just docking will heal up your hull.

A two room ship with an empath grid is only a little slower and good if you're paranoid. But that's not really solo....

I have no difficulty outrunning everything I've come across in the Geomancers's ship.. which must be 10 rooms.. or so.

I have 19 rooms but I also have the speed thing. So I go as fast as I need to go.

Only if you hum the Imperial Death March and let us redecorate it to look like the Death Star.

A one room ship is fine to navigate aetherspace. I have explored all parts of aetherspace, including the 12 sphere points on astral, and I think I have died 2 maybe 3 times, and only because i was not carefull enough.

In zmud I have a set of alias' for the ship navigation on the numpad keys, inside a "aethership" class folder, so I can enable the whole folder when im about to go flying through aetherspace.

With "brief" room description on you can move very fast. I suggest in addition to the 8 directions you also have pilot dock mapped to a key too, so that you can dock very quickly if needed.

With a one room ship I've got from aetherplex to leo sphere on astral in 5 mins something and easily outrun any nasties.

If you know where you are going, not just 'sort of know'. then a one room ship works best to get there. If you are maping or exploring then you really need something that can take hits.

I'm pretty sure Elryn has the best ship out there with more HP then a lvl 80 elfen tongue.gif all the standard fixens and loads of artifacts, but even fully crewed it's not a match for a group of 5-7 tendrils or so. *shudder*
Richter2006-04-11 22:19:14
Well, technically, Deepnight has the most HP...

But my ship, the Stroke of Luck, is trying to compete with the others! The thing is, with all the upgrades is has, and all the ones I want, it's still going to be a ten room ship or so. I'm trying to decide if I want to get a one room ship and put the speed artifact in, that'd be the fastest combination possible.

Actually, looking at Deepnight's map, it appears more like a Borg Cube....

My little 8-room thing flits around just fine. I only get caught by Pyrinnes when I screw up my nav aliases. dry.gif

Yeah, a one-roomer would work fine.

They've found me out! (actually, there was supposed to be a circle around it, but that would have meant even more road rooms, which are expensive, and not extremely useful sad.gif ).

I can assure all of you though, I'd -never- try to fly solo in that thing. Even if it would take them forever to kill me. laugh.gif

Actually, Avaerin is a 53 room ship and it -just- goes faster than the tendrils. I would have no problem flying it around solo if I lived in America, I think. (It's only the lag that gets me in trouble, but with so much health that usually isn't a problem).

But yeah, I use my one-room ship to fly around the prime aetherspace, its just not yet worth worrying about any of the other modules too much unless you are going to siphon power for a nexus. Maybe that will change when the specializations come out.
