Well, I am considring getting one, as my old GBA is getting boring, and I can't play portable lusty...
I was just wondering where you all stand about this, cause I can't really make a decision, the price is kinda hefty though, but I finally found a guy willing to shell out some cash for my modded gba (plays rom dumps, and carts from anywhere, internal chip, official installation, really nice).
Both are nice, but the price of PSP is abit of a downside....so let us see
*PRICE-DS
*Graphics-PSP
*Games-Tie (I like games on both, but...PSP has Katamari.... )
*Functions-PSP (Video, MP3,4,etc. AND it has some nice nice mod kits available, something about Secret of Mana or some random date rpg from japan in a portable form is just...pure )
*cuteness-DS
*Bat.Life-DS (I have heard PSP is insane for battery juice...)
a side plus is PSP has a mud client, little functionality at all, but it HAS one...
So, chip in what you all think, let me know, put in your opinions, pro's con's?
ALSO-Does anyone know if PSP is region coded or not? I know DS-usa and DS-eu play the japanese carts out of the box, what about PSP?

DS hands down, there is no argument or debate. Just DS dominating the PSP. Also, don't even compare the games. Metroid prime: Hunters, Mario cart, ect make PSP quiver in fear Plus you can't beat the WiFi function.

Yea pictochat is neat, and I could draw thai language on it if I wanted, I'm just worried about game content, as I mostly only play rpg's and DS has something like...none?
As for the Wifi, can I get on Wifi and play you Torak? OR is it like only local network play?
love-mimi
EDIT:What do you mean don't compare games? I might be the only original true hardcore castlevania fan on earth, having played them all, and I got posters from the games in my dorm room... PSP has Megaman and Katamari... and I -think Castlevania... DS has...animal crossing with password protected towns (LAME!!!) and...and...umm...no katamari...

Go look at a metroid prime: hunters video, or Mario cart. Some of the best hand held games to date due to the stylus and such. As far as WiFi goes it is basically wireless interent, I know in the states every mcdonalds is a hotspot, and you can plug into your internet at home to play people(most likely world wide, don't have one myself but a buddy does). Also, you could just check the sales figures, DS is outselling everything.

woah, torak, Im surprised. I thought you were a true gamer.
PSP all the way baby, no competition. DS may be cheaper, but so is the overall production quality. I dont see how games like NINTENDOGS can compares with lumines, or some other awesome psp games. Also, psp has more capabilities than the ds. I just dont see how you can compare the two. PSP > DS

Yea my whole campus is wifi, so thats why I'm considering getting one to pass the time, I mean, I love cute things, (got me a new g.3 Tamagochi, huge fan of virtual pet tech. so Nintendogs looks like something I might like, for a few hours.,..) but I am just so on the fence... I could just buy like 500 or more credits, but then I would not be stupidly overpowered like I wish I was Hm...
and...PSP has no castlevania yet... :'(
love-mimi
Yea it is like...and PSP has so many mods...NES emulater...SNES emulater...Sega Saturn (NIGHTS YES!!!! PORTABLE NIGHTS!!!! ) Wow, could you imagine lusternia on the PSP.... O_O

DS has an add on that you can play every game on it, movies ect. I will get the link after, also, DS is outselling the PSP by huge margins for a reason, the game quality is better. PSP was a good concept but fell drastically short. I think you should take a look at the leading games, and how fast the DS lite sold. There was more lined people then there was DS and they had to turn away quite a bit.
Simimi2006-04-14 02:12:28
DSlite? An Add-On? Hrmm....too bad you can't write to the DS media card thingies.... a HUGE flaw in DS is you can not use multiplayer on gba games... now how will I ever catch them all?

Yea I am surfing the net now, looking at games and stuff, but I see alot of nice psp games, and I am not seeing much on DS...
EDIT:
EDIT2: After reading what are apparently full ( as of recently, like this month) game lists for each system it is even harder to choose, as they both have things I am interested in... Darkstalkers or Castlevania... Tamagotchi or Fifa 06....

is recommended that you take advantage of the PSP's lack of region encoding and import this puppy.

I'd say DS only because when I buy a portable gaming system that's what I want. Only problem with Nintendo is that they need some third-party support and all of their systems would be solid.

Yeah, but Meteos compares with Lumines, and there are games on the DS that can't be compared to anything. Kirby Canvas Curse. Pac Pix. Warioware Touched! Trauma Center:Under the Knife. Not to mention those games that can be compared to other things and still rock. Sonic Rush. Mario Kart DS. Mario and Luigi:Partners in Time. Animal Crossing:Wild World. Metroid Prime:Hunters. Tetris DS.
And lets see, the PSP has Lumines and... movies? A Katamari game with a crappy control scheme? Ports of old PC RPGs? Remakes of Megaman games?
Besides, a quick check of 1up.com shows that a Katamari game is in the works for the DS, as are several RPGs, among them the Earthbound-esque Contact. Not to mention the aformentioned Mario and Luigi:Partners in Time, which, although isn't as good as M&L:Superstar Saga, is a great game.
DS all the way.

DS > PSP
DS has much better/more games
DS has a better battery life
PSP may have better graphics, but the DS's are still pretty good
PSP may be able to show movies and play music, (and that's what sony seems to be advertising about it...), but, if I wanted to watch movies or listen to music, I'd probably just buy a video ipod or something like that
Katamari always sounded like a fun/addicting game, yay for it coming to ds
a side note...
does anyone here have metroid, animal crossing, or mariokart?
And if so, would anyone be willing to share friend codes?
edit: the DS lite is DS, just a little smaller and lighter, brighter screen, and some minor cosmetic changes (i.e. microphone placement)

Buy one of those palm sized computers, whatever they're calling them these days. A guy at work here has one, it's got Xp on it and everything.
