The reason wiccans and guardians cause such crappy damage is that they get better afflictions and the best instakills.

Cosmicfire does a good deal less than blast, it's been proven. Just ask anyone who's played both a mage and a guardian for a lengthy period of time. You know, like me.

Even if they were equal, the mage bashing ability would still be far above that of a guardian because they get it enhanced via staffs.

60% of blast/curse/fire damage is based on Int, and 40% is make-believe, I hope you all know this.

I want a bullwhip. One that can be charged with web so when I hit someone, they get webbed

New Topic: Artisan Staffs!
Verithrax2006-04-15 02:34:31
I say, I want artisans to be able to make staffs that replace the summoned staffs. Would give artisans something to do and let me run around with something that matches what I'm wearing.
Hazar2006-04-15 02:35:41
Yay! Something for Artisans to do!

Psst...

*Staves*
Verithrax2006-04-15 03:04:35
And they can be verbed, too! My, I bet those guardians sure wish they could get staffs.
Unknown2006-04-15 09:02:31
Enchantable, and pretty crappy weapon staves sure, i mean, you can even give Warriors a new specialization to use them as well, though they wouldn't be forged, crafted by an artisan, then an enchanter can enchant them two ways.

First for combat, to make them some magical type of staff, which gives them combat stats, like greatrobes. The second is enchanting them with the various enchantable skills. And of course you cannot wear a staff, but i suppose they would be sheathable.

Well I never really liked the athame when Saran was a wiccan, I really would have loved to be able to have a staff I could have to replace the talisman.

Perhaps going from Verithraxes idea of replacing the staves with artisan made ones...

How about umn, Any summoned item as in talismans, staves, cudgels, etc could be broken down and it's power melded with the artisan crafted staff.

This way you still have to power cost involved in getting the item in the first place rather than skipping it, the bonus being that they last longer perhaps even staves being able to be remade at a pentagram if broken but the mage/druid for their trans skill.

though I don't really see this as anything other than a fun accessory unless it has some beneficial effect, such as each staff has a "head" or something which is made from gemstones which offer slightly modified damage types maybe. (so people with insane magical defense could be hurt a little more)

That would make more sense, though I did like the whole idea for replacing summoned staves with crafted ones. They would, of course, be icredibly expensive and would be a sort of rite of way for mages who wish to be respected as truly powerful. The staff would be usable by anyone, but would be nothing but a walking sick unless used alongside the mage's 'Staff' skill. That way we could get past seeing nothing but coral staves and tower shields in mage's hands and start to see some variety, with each staff custom made by an artisan for a mage. Once a staff has been made for a mage, it would be bonded to that mage, and thus be able to be summoned much in the way staves are summoned now. This could also serve as a rite of passage for artisans who wish to respected as skilled workers.

Aside from the whole mage concept, Guardians could perhaps have their staves embued with some form of healing magic, perhaps the ability to cure random ailments or, for Nihilists, cause a random ailment. The effect of a non-mage staff would be decided by the materials they were crafted with. If enchanters could get in on this by giving the staff a power boost (NOT CHARGES) much like greatrobes, the that would be perfectly fine as well. This boost would be optional, of course, and its nature would reflect the use and nature of the wielder. Perhaps the use of the staff could leech off of the Guardian's own reserves, thus not to make it insanely overpowered, but simply an extention of her powers.
Aiakon2006-04-15 17:24:55
I'm not necessarily sure about that being so widespread.

Every 16 year old Geomancer and Aquamancer apprentice would be wielding the zomg obsidian staff of uber everlasting death and destruction...

I -would- like that, though, as an option for 50 credit customisation.

I'd really like a customised staff, the way the warriors get customised weapons. And perhaps to rune it with that 10% extra damage rune. *dreams*
ferlas2006-04-15 17:37:31
Im not sure if you can here but in achaea mages could definatly get a custom made staff with a description etc etc. Just for looks though.

I dont see why you wouldnt be able to get one here though?
Verithrax2006-04-15 17:51:03
I suppose it's because of staff breaking skills? Artisan staffs would be identical to a summoned staff, only more expensive (And maybe with a Power cost). Breaking them would leave two pieces in your inventory which any mage can reunite for 10 Power (1 Power in the appropriate plane). So there would be no combat advantage, they'd just look pretty and be something for Artisans to make. (They'd also allow customisation, yay). And they'd save some Power by not having to be resummoned every 20 months. They'd last 200 months and cost plenty of commodities (Not nearly as costly as weapons or greatrobes, around the 2000-3000 gold price range.)
Unknown2006-04-15 21:12:51
Okay, how 'bout this?

Artisans get to create staves that can be made into different patterns, kinda like forgers make different designs of weapons. They can be enchanted with... a high amount of enchantments about something. They have NO attack, because, well, every guild has their own attack. It's your fault for choosing a guild with a poor or wicked awesome guild bashing skill.
Unknown2006-04-15 21:23:59
And.... Hmm. Actualy. The Staff enhances your current by... 20%, and an extra 15% after that if you get the Staff/Cudgel ability. They would be uber expensive, but customizable, so they'd be yours. They'd also have to be high up in Artisan... like WAY high. Near trans, or maybe trans. Hell, I'd get one ASAP if they came around... they could also be something like a Rite of Passage for the Mage/Druid guilds... Reach a certain rank, and get the Staff for a reward... -daydream-
Verithrax2006-04-15 21:34:38
Er, no. I just want a way to get custom staffs and different staff designs. Making Mage/Druid attacks any more powerful is just obscene.
Shamarah2006-04-15 21:39:44
If other guilds get to use staff, I want to be able to use aeon.
Unknown2006-04-15 22:44:21
I would be happy with a nice barage of ents like wiccans..
