Do any warriors use a shield in one hand and a weapon in the other? Is it even viable?
Daevos2006-04-17 01:44:57
It's somewhat viable with shieldstun.
Hazar2006-04-17 02:15:31
I saw a log once where Murphy did it...but, then again, that was when Armand wasn't doing anything. Hmm...
Xenthos2006-04-17 02:16:22
I've been idly thinking of trying a shieldstun combo as a Shadowlord. Never gotten around to it, though. Not too fond of losing half my offence.
Iblis2006-04-17 02:30:22
I'd say it's considerably more viable in group combat (particular if you're a weaker member of the group), where keeping an opponent still would be more effective than merely damaging them.
Razenth2006-04-17 03:08:45
Does parrying stack with a shield and a weapon? Or is it just PARRY, and it randomly determines which thingie it parries with? If you have both, and both are parrying, how does it tell whether to smack on coule or shieldriposte when you successfully parry?
ferlas2006-04-17 10:55:05
As far as I know it dosnt stack. Its just parry. If you have weapon parry and shield parry while wielding a shield and a weapon its pretty radom which actually parries, but the results the same anyway aside from when you have trans combat where its preferable to shield parry than to weapon parry.

With a high precision weapon, I would say so. Even if you don't use the tactic exclusively, you have to consider that a target cannot parry while stunned - and shieldstun does not miss. As a result, you can stun/hackdown for beheads going through stancing and parrying. Malicia does this in group combat, and it seems to be working quite well.
ferlas2006-04-17 11:12:46
Good point, its probally best to go two weapons until their pretty wounded then switch to shield to shield stun and go for an insta kill.

Shield/sword viability--
One on one: Not very good.
Group combat: depends

I use it one on one and it works wonders if you time it right.
If you have the strength/precision, the combo is this for a bonecrusher.
Crush head X 2
Crush head X 2
Crush head and raze
unwield left wield shield
shieldstun and smitedown.
Against any non-warrior you will get their head to critical if you have the wounding potential, also you'll be stunning them on the crushes and giving stupidity (envenom stupidity/slickness too for more fun) then when you crush head and raze, they will be stunned, then you pull out shield and they can't parry their head.
for me, it brings my instakill ratio on a 4 combo 10 power kill to 50%.
Needless to say i don't really use it in 1 on 1 fights, because it's rediculously cheap and i'm not like that.

Uh, maybe not anymore. But I distinctively recall in one of our earlier fights you used Ectoplasm 6 times in a row when it had no power cost associated.
Murphy2006-04-18 11:56:34
I only used ectoplasm cause i didn't have a web enchantment, you have love potion anyway so it's hard to use at times.
Either way, the only time i use a shield now is for shieldstunning and going for the wind for sacrifice
