No, no, Revan. You got it wrong, let me help.
FF Tactics had the worst STORYLINE ever. And ending is the storyline's element after all. Mechanics kicked ass, but plot and ESPECIALLY character development were just... meh. You can feel that Square tried to create a really gritty world (comparing to other Final Fantasies) - but failed.
EDIT: Vix, by these FF 7 games they probably mean Dirge of Cerberus. Probably.

Hm, it said "games" as in plural game...
Unknown2006-05-01 16:33:45
Games would be Dirge of Cerberus and that cellphone game "Before Crisis" with Reno, Rude, and someone else. I know the limited edition DVD in Japan had a 10 minute compilation trailer for FF7 that -might- include the PS3 demo, but I'm not too sure.
Until E3 I'm sticking with the "No FF7 remake planned as of now" thing.

The American Advent Children had a ten minute compilation thing too, it was a nice background for AC, but I don't recal there being any part of the new FF7 stuff in there. They also listed the new games as Dirge of Cerberus, Before Crisis, and Crisis Core.

The remake could possibly be a hoax, but I have an excerpt taken from the latest Game Informer. This is from the gaming gossip column so it is possibly incorrect but it states, "Last E3, Square Enix made fanboys squeal when it showed how Final Fantasy VII could be remade on the PlayStation 3. Of course, the company went to pains to point out how it had no plans to release an updated version of Final Fantasy VII on the system. Rumors have been swirling since day one that the game would indeed come to the PS3, and now Loose Talk has not only heard that those rumors are true, but that the remake will in fact use the battle system from Final Fantasy XII." Possible hoax, but there seems like an incresing chance that it's true.
Richter2006-05-01 22:33:43
Yeah, just what I thought. GI is the only gaming magazine I'll read anyway, all the other ones that I've read have sucked.
Who knows, maybe it's a hoax, but we know they -can- do it, because many of us have seen the PS3 intro to FFVII. And for years, fans have been screaming to have a remake, maybe we'll finally get it. Though, it needs to have the old battle system, I don't know about getting the FF12 one in FF7. o_O'

I don't like the ATB meter. *growl* It limits the amount of time I have to think thinks over and plan clearly which is totally unrealistic but that's just the way I like it. Not like the ATB meter is actually -that- realistic anyways.

If they were to make a remake of FF7 I think the time to begin development would be now, honestly (Probably what Nomura is going to announce at E3). By the time they finished the game the PS3 would've been out for at least two years if the worldwide launch is true, but even two years might not be enough time to put it all together.
After FF12 they really should focus on some non-FF games and redeem themselves as a company, but unfortunately I hear 13 is already in development (Not that it would be impossible to do both at once. =P).

Redeem themselves as a company? Why do you say that? FF is one of their historically best series.

That's the problem. When people say Square-Enix the first thing they tend to think to is Final Fantasy. Other companies like Konami and possibly even Namco have a wider range of successful games.
All of the recent SaGa games were either ignored or poorly reviewed (Well.. Romancing SaGa did pretty well for a remake). Crystal Chronicles was supposedly awful if the multi-player support wasn't there. Tactics Advanced wasn't too bad.. and I enjoyed Radiata Stories. You know, I don't know anymore. >_<
I guess I'd like to see other good games by Square that have the same acclaim (Like Chrono Trigger and more of the Mana series to an extent) again.
Anyway! E3 is a few days away. Maybe we'll hear about a remake soon.
Edit: Anyone seen the new FF3 remake for the DS? It's going to be in 3D!

Hmm, I see what you mean...I don't think there's any harm in having one extremely successful franchise over a few less successful ones though.
And which FF3 is this, the actual FF3 or what everyone else calls FF6? Might be interested in the former, but I've played the latter too many times. (The horribly laggy PSX port sucked.)

Well, they should be able to pump out some quality games. Heck, Bioware and Pandemic just merged, they've both put out great games in the past, and are supposedly going to put out tons of new ones. Squeenix needs to get on the ball!
Shiri2006-05-03 06:27:24
What did pandemic do? (I'd research it myself but I'm going to work in a tiny bit)
Unknown2006-05-03 07:21:58
Oh, the actual FF3.

It may look bleh, but still pixels with handheld systems aren't going to be awe-inspiring. Compared to the NES Final Fantasy 3 and now I'd say it's going to be nice. They're adding more story and other game functions to make it like a brand new game. I had a link with side-by-side comparison shots, but I'll post it later when I find it.
And yeah, Square-Enix should be able to make some nice games. I think Dragon Quest 8 could officially be said to be one of theirs, but Level 5 developed it so I don't know.
Edit: Comparison Shots

Some other things I stole from another site:
- The game is in full 3D.
- When you are in fields or towns the top screen will display the map.
- The map is not used when in dungeons.
- The main gameplay appears on the touch screen.
- You can use the stylus to select everything (menus, etc.).
- Commands in battle use the touch screen, too.
- Cutscenes and the camera will be used well because the game is in full 3D.
- The main party consists of three males and one female.
- Each character in your party will now have a name and attributes.
- The story will remain the same, but there will be new events, backstories, and sidequests to develop the game better.
- There are 23 different jobs and you can change them by getting Capacity Points. The system is now much more balanced.
- You can save anywhere in-game.

That's actually pretty good for handheld, I'm not complaining.

Personally, I think that FFX just destroyed the Final Fantasy look. Nine Was good in my thoughts, and 7 was great... if only they could remake it to be CG. Any one ever hear of those two guys who where trying to remake the Chrono Trigger game but got stopped
Arix2006-05-04 16:08:35
FFVII is just fine the way it is. Don't mess with the classics. Same with Chrono Trigger. I would hunt those guys down and beat them to death with a bottle of Mountain Dew
Unknown2006-05-04 17:02:12
Yes, please don't mess with Chrono Trigger. I don't care much about FFVII and honestly.. they could easily make another angsty FF if everyone liked it so much.
I'd rather see the Final Fantasy series stop for awhile and someone new picked up. Just like.. a small three-part continuation of something. With the player in control of the bad guy!

ooooh..... I like those kinds of games
Richter2006-05-04 21:44:47
I thought Crono Trigger sucked. *twiddle*
