Good thing I didnt buy artifact pipes when i had the chance.. Best thing I didnt do. However, now that i think of it.. im suddenly wary of buying some other artifact lest they befall the same fate
Well, you face the same risk with skills too. If I had bought credits to go bard, then was faced with the hardcore nerfs they've seen, I would have been out $100 to switch. Hense the disclaimer on the website

Hyrtakos2008-03-25 03:49:53
Since they're slowly removing all of the downsides, the next updates will be giving all classes the ability to string together their attacks and lose no time in between them, right?

~45$ or ~750k gold is a bigger deal than getting jumped and yet those threads can go on for dozens of pages.
I think a few pages of mostly rational discussion on the affect the changes have had is not exactly moaning either.
Krellan2008-03-25 18:49:07
Well, we'll still have to wait and see for a change if one at all. Took me a long time to get my fire wand unnerfed and by that time I had decided to switch guilds

Yes, but it's been pointed out how artifact pipes are still better than regular pipes, and I agree with that more than the folks asking for more puffs or a refund. Besides, the changes were retracted in a matter of minutes, so the entire discussion is moot!
If such a change to pipes did go through, I personally wouldn't mind seeing artifact pipes making it finally possible to smoke underwater.

The only change retracted was the stance one.

Missed that key word in the post. My bad!
Okay, so how about my underwater hookah now?

It's clear that artifact pipes are still better than regular pipes, but what's entirely not clear is, are they still 50cr better? It used to be a no-brainer yes; now the answer seems very heavily to lean towards no. A little buff (like your underwater idea, which I like) would not go amiss to make up for the difference and make the answer a solid yes again -- not as solid as it used to be, but solid enough.
Daganev2008-03-25 20:09:07
artifact vials hold double the amount of sips. Artifact pipes should hold double the amount of puffs.

Yeah, not the same. This is already the case for herbalists, anyway, so you would have to either buff or change that too.
The credit cost for artifact pipes could also just be lowered, but I'm sure most people would prefer they be buffed, heh.
Krellan2008-03-26 03:15:56
it's less trouble for everyone if it just gets buffed, cause if the price goes lower, are we all gonna get 60 credits back or more if you're Geb damnit? And if they doubled puffs, herbalists would get 40 each!

Herbalists really do not need the double pipe puffs bonus...they already get +herb eating speed and 5% more sparkleberry healing, geez.
Give the double pipe puffs to arti pipes instead.
Krellan2008-03-26 07:58:37
I'm not saying they need it, but you'd be buffing an arti and devaluing a skill.
Daganev2008-03-26 15:04:46
Whats wrong with 40 puffs?

You take a long drag off your pipe.
You cough uncontrollably, as you hack up some black phlegm.

Subj: Domoth Changes and Misc. Bug Fixes
DOMOTH CHANGES
==============
- During the third stage, only the challenger may enter the
Domotheos area. The spawning rate of guardians is greatly
reduced during this third stage.
- Demigods may only claim one Domotheos, and Ascendants may only
claim two. However, if one holds a Seal of a Domotheos, that
Domotheos does not count towards the maximum held.
- The rate at which counters go up during stages 2 and 3 have
been adjusted as follows:
- True Ascendants at their Ascended Domotheos: Double Rate
- Ascendants: 33% faster
- Demigod Seal Bearers at their Seal's Domotheos: 33% faster
- The time period that Domotheos are held have been adjusted as
follows:
- True Ascendants at their Ascended Domotheos: +100 days
- Ascendants: + 50 days
- Demigod Seal Bearers at their Seal's Domotheos: +25 days
MISC BUG FIXES
==============
- Being mounted is no longer enough to bypass shrine Gravity. YAY
- Aethersights should detect summons again. (Great!)
- You should be able to squint during games of Slippers. (What is slippers?
)
- Those disguised as trees or statues (Glamours) won't be
revealed by targetting them with emotes.
- Probing a forge or oven will reveal if it's lit.
- Refreshing your Stag medicine bag will reset its usable months.
A note about medicine bags: The maximum number of uses of a
fresh bag isn't a flat 50, but depends on your skill in Stag.
- Divine fire will no longer cure balance/equilibrium. (Neat)
- Nexus objects will only prevent movement if in loyal territory,
so summoning people to astral nexii will once again work.
- Trueheal (Sacraments) now usable while pinlegged. ( Ooh! )
- Shrine powers will not hit inside a maze.
- Twirl staff (Geomancy) has been fixed and is aggressive again.
- NEXUS STATUS will now show real room names for guard positions. Thank goodness
- There was a bug where pinleg would be removed if certain pacifying
afflictions were given to the Blademaster. This has been corrected.
- Dispel (Illusions) is only usable by Illusionists. Oops!

This is kind of ignoring that non-warrior ascendant/demis have a lot of trouble dealing with the damage these mobs dish out. Without support (preferably in the tanky variety) I'm not sure how well this will play out for demis of other classes.
