What do the new skills do?
Silvanus2008-07-15 06:58:56
A couple of the prophesies are flavor skills (which rune was lacking in). Foreshadow is like Spectacles, and Benign is reverse maelstorm/reality (heals an affliction and heals mana to allies).
Runic Amulet is nice. (Protection from one affliction)
Death Prophesy I'm still iffy on, it might be too nice but we'll see. (Simon says Rune instakill).
And I think Malign's power cost might be too high, but so many combination of things can be done we'll see again. (Gives four afflictions).
Overall, the biggest change was Supersling taking one power.

Targetted spectacles and easier drink are NOT flavour skills. That said, I'm hearing mixed reports, is benign really a better drink/stagtotem for several less power or is it a one-shot?
Even if death prophecy wasn't too good (which it will be with sap, but that's sap's problem) it forces running for so much longer than things like inquisition, which people already complain about a tonne, and for only as much setup. Meeeh.

Yeah, Death seems like a bit much to me right now.
Benign is a one shot, you fling the rune and it's done I know it's not flavor skills, but will it greatly effect combat like death prophesy or a demesne? No. Will it save you from dying? Most likely not)

Ok. It's more like semi-useful utility skills. Benign isn't bad - that's already better than most of healing for defensive purposes (at least you have to be in the room.)

I like the changes.
Lovely for the Druids in both flavor and offensive and improves the chance for an Aquamancer to preserve.
Now that I think about it, a Druid with Runes is awesome for RP

I'd go druid if I didn't love bard so much.

Arilyon2008-07-15 07:40:38
Even though I know it'll be changed soon, I just want to say that whoever came up with the Simon Says game on Death Prophesy.. I love you.
It's so much fun!

Estarra2008-07-15 07:45:26
The death prophesy is extremely hard to pull off--I think people are misunderstanding how it works if there's the perception think it's easy. In fact, I don't foresee any reason why we'd change it, but time will tell!
Edit: Here's a prediction: some runists may argue that death prophesy is underpowered and needs to be upgraded!

I dont suppose we can get any idea on if the new marked plate is kept through loosing forging, or if it is automatically removed like before?

Two questions:
How does death prophesy work?
And second, what's simon says got to do with it? (

Aesyra, Simon says: Die.
(At least, that's what it brings to mind!) As to how it actually works, we'll see the AB I'm sure. Eventually. And/or kidnap Xavius for a while.

From what I know (could easily be misinformed or lacking info) its like 5 particular runes in a period of time like 1 to 2 mins. No idea how accurate that is.
Remember you gave this to sap users and whirlpool users. And because I expect people would complain, the not quote as nasty (they can still escape this at least) stonewall.
Dont balance things to require running for long periods

It tells you what rune to throw, when that rune hits it tells you the next one. Simon says throw Rad, etc.

Let's say that Arilyon is the Runist and I'm the target. She initiates the prophesy on me for 3p and 6 runes and a timer starts ticking down. The first rune is told to her and she has to hit me with that rune before the next rune is unveiled to her. Five runes are needed to hit and when I get hit with the fifth, I die instantly. She can supersling two runes and it counts as long as one of those runes is the one needed. She can even staffsling the runes needed to kill me, so she can insta-kill me outside the room as well.
Shiri2008-07-15 07:56:29
It depends how long the timer is. If it's a minute, you are basically going to have to run forever or die unstoppably. If it's like 4 seconds, or even up to 8, you only have to run a bit or hinder.
Geb2008-07-15 07:58:18
Where does the hard part come in? Is there a time limit between each rune hitting? If so, what is the time limit? If not, then what is the method of avoiding the kill, besides just stay away from the runist?

QFT and the rest of your post.
I died twice to it and had Arilyon fling different runes at me, to me it didn't seem hard. I initially thought that they can only be hit with those five runes (which seems more balanced to me compared to this).

Fear Sap
Estarra2008-07-15 08:17:32
If you aren't afflicted with the ailments of the 5 runes at the end, the prophesy will fail. That's doesn't make it hard?
