It would probably fine if it didn't use up the shadows, really. But that's just too much of a punch in the balls.
EDIT: Well, choke seems a lot less useful 1 on 1 now, outside of ganking people. People could just walk out after you release or people can walk out during the time it takes you to regain eq from choking. And it seems to disappear after 3 seconds (which is supposed to be random and 3 seconds is just the max)

It's meant to be used as something to make afflictions stick when you've already got them afflicted. Not sit in it for an entire fight and just rely on your passive offense to kill an enemy. It takes more skill now, as it should, for an SD to kill someone. SD was seriously ezmode compared to MD, and.. to an extent, they're still better. Heh.
Unknown2009-02-18 22:24:15
New choke fades if you're away from the victim for more than 2-3s, if you're in the same room as the victim, newchoke stays around 5 minutes. It's not hard to follow the the victim if they get away so choke doesn't get 'cured', and of course if you're having trouble with it, you probably should have prepped better.
And it seems the reason why newchoke eats shadows is so a group can't go drop shadows, then choke a bunch of people immediately.

That's a tremendous nerf to choke. It would be suicidal for a Night user to choke in a group. I guess that's a good thing.
As for bells, yay! I suggested the tracking ideas. Not exactly what I wanted, but seems fine. I have to check out conceal now. What's rushing like, now?

Eh, the bells one has been on my list for about 2 RL years now. Finally got to it.
My list is too long.

It's interesting you assert that without ever having been a good SD.

How would you make afflictions stick to get to be able to choke to keep them sticking?
@Shu: How can you say it's not hard to follow the victim? Shroud alone makes that pretty hard.
And well, make it so that only the person releasing the shadows can choke in them. Right now Shadowdancers have to either use drink or choke. A Moondancer vs. a Shadowdancer in choke would be exactly on the same level, Moondancer even a little on the advantage because the Shadowdancer would lose EQ wen choking while the Moondancer could immediately attack.
Unknown2009-02-18 22:34:47
Disappointing in that Rushing was to be changed alongside Hyperactive - the problem of super-speed-bonuses screwing with overall monk balance is hardly fixed if Hyperactive remains as is. Ah well, guess we'll need to wait for that verdict.
And Rush:
Syntax: STEALTH RUSH
Power: 2 (Any)
Rush at an enemy in an adjacent room and quickly truss them up.

It's like that for all affliction classes across IRE. The premise is the same, stick Aeon. Except in a few instances with classes like Wardancers, Bloodborn, etc. Most affliction classes revolve solely around sticking aeon whilst afflicting because most systems will handle afflictions just fine.
SD's can make afflictions stick with insta-sleeplock. It's quite easy to do actually. Even without a beast.
An SD that immediately drops Choke against an MD deserves to get killed. That's how it should be. A Mage that immediately drops Retardation against another passive class is going to get killed. That's how it should be.

Fine. I assert it too. I was one of the best Shadowdancers to date (Ariatas). She slew Ceren, Thoros, Shuyin, Forren, etc. She did it with transcendent Wicca, Night, and mythical Hexes. No combat. No resilience. No anything special.

The current setup is still very powerful perhaps MORE SO 1-on-1 than ever. It's not as lulz in group, but oh well.

Narsrim2009-02-18 22:53:28
In the past, if someone tumbled out of choke, you had to chase and re-choke. This costed 3p. Now, you can chase and keep them choked. I'd say that's scary more powerful 1-on-1.
Xenthos2009-02-18 22:55:32
This does have a LOT of potential in 1v1 (or Xv1).

I really think it's mildly ignorant and premature to say choke was nerfed. It changed sure, but it's now ridiculous 1-on-1 and STILL powerful in group (Aegis ftw). It's not the same old lolchokedemesne, but it's far far far from worthless.
Narsrim2009-02-18 23:00:24
I also think Rushing is pretty damn sweet too. Let's not forget, Ninjakari also get hyperactive, which still gives speed. If anything, it's like a cool upgrade too. Instant truss from afar? I'll take it if no one wants it...
Unknown2009-02-18 23:06:12
I like the Rushing change, too (thanks to Lanfayr), but I would've also liked to see Hyperactive changed with this round of reports.

Not terribly shabby. Sucks for me to lose rushing as an Igasho, and it makes truss semi obsolete. But we can work with it.
For reference, obviously Celina has contort. Also, rushing doesn't prone.
