And the surge change does seem rather off.
Which I did, indeed, say when Terenas was mentioning that he was considering putting it into his envoy report.
I guess I need to envoy changing it back next time around.
Finally someone understand my concern...I pay 8 power for 1k more health? I mean, unsurged, gorgogs kill me, and now surged, I probably have to run even MORE when bashing Astral now...
Narsrim2006-04-26 16:40:07
Back to sprint, there is no "gain" of time unless you are moving 4-5 rooms in a sprint. Given how unlikely that is, sprint no longer has any purpose whatsoever. It isn't handy for losing people because you can't be followed if the target attacks you (and is thus off balance/equilibrium) anyways.
To travel through multiple rooms in a single direction instantly? It will be sad to see the insta-run up Avechna's peak gone, but you can't make out the ability is useless.
Being able to avoid certain rooms is still going to be handy.
Did you suggest this?

Dude, I'd totally pay 8 power for 1k more health any day of the week. It's not the envoys' fault that Glom has horrible power policies.

It wasn't in my report, no.
I do however agree with the change, and I'm glad a balance was put on sprint (though I'd prefer it had its own balance, like walking). I've always felt an alias that can take you through 500+ rooms instantly is a bit much. I'll miss the beloved sprint-tracks, of course... but it isn't unreasonable that travelling a long distance should take longer than a second.
Edit: I may have idea'd it, way back before I was corrupted by the ease of forum posts... I can't remember. I certainly don't think this change came from me though.
Simimi2006-04-26 16:45:40
yea 8 power for 1k more health would be lovely, being able to hit nearly 5k before level 60 would be just insane...

Considering I (usually) hit 6.4 to 6.5k health with Level 86, I'd love to know where you get your ideas from. Now I go 5.6k health. Wooh.

CODE
ab totems stag
Syntax: SPIRITBOND STAG
            SPIRITRELEASE STAG
            SPRINT
As fast as the wind, the spirit of Stag will grant you the ability to SPRINT
long distances.
Poor White Hart. His spirit sucks, I can walk faster than him or "the wind" now
![smile.gif](style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif)
Anyhoo, this if my final rant about sprinting. I'm going to be productive and just ask for it to be changed back or do something entirely different. This also -destroys- one of my envoy suggestions in my report... the ability to sprint on water with waterwalk up *cries*
Thus far (it has been like what... under 10 minutes?), I've gotten 4 AIMs and 3 people being like: zomg narsrim, I'll rip off your head if you suggested this. I didn't! I swear.

There was never any difference between walking three rooms and sprinting. Try going through 4 or 5, or multiple lengths of 4 or 5, and if you can show walking is faster, then there's a problem.
Otherwise, I don't think 3 rooms is very conclusive at all.

A slight breakdown of a level 84 Shadowlord's stats.
3660 health, 3660 mana, with defs.
Pay 8 power, get a constant mana drain, and come up with:
4880 health, 2440 mana.
vs.
Pay 8 power, get a constant mana drain, and receive:
5490 health, 1830 mana.
That's a *considerable* change, especially if you don't have further damage reduction (such as Drawdown or Nightkiss) to ameliorate your defences. Keep in mind that knights *don't have* hindering to actively slow down other knights, but instead need to tank the brunt of the damage.
With 5490 health, Ixion's weapons are still able to easily overcome a level 2 sip bonus, with just *raw damage,* not even counting the additional wounding he can inflict. So could Diamante's broadswords, Kaervas' staffpoint, and so on. Reducing raw health on a race that already has low initial health has a staggering impact, while being far less noticeable on a race that starts with initial high con and poor intelligence (which is actually a benefit for them, as they can surge and keep a significant percent more mana than they used to have, while sacrificing very little health percentage-wise)

How many rooms are there in Lusternia? I'm going to guess a lot. Can you name 20-30 locations (which isn't very many in Lusternia) that have 5 rooms in a single direction side-by-side-by-side-etc? The ability to "move faster" in a situation you will likely never encounter is like having an amazing ability that costs 11p to use. It just isn't all that feasible.

Ashteru...
Mathematically if I had surge as a Dracnari, I could, in theory, hit nearly 5 k hp prior to level 60 (easily hit it at 58 or 9) with Fortuna and Blessings, aswell as other skills. Though I know that not everyone has fortuna and whatnot, but...I was just making an observation, though after reading what Xenthos posted, it makes me wonder...

Show me you can walk faster up Avechna's Peak than you can sprint.
Show me that you can walk faster (without using rifts) to all villages than you can sprint along the highways/mountains.
Tell me how many abilities can follow a sprinter.

Xenthos,
Do you realize that you are trying to tell people that normally have under 3.5-4.0k health that you are suddenly underpowered with MORE health and access to full plate, etc? I'm just not seeing it. I'm also not buying into this whole "Shadowlord Faelings" are now underpowered thing either. You have a level 2 sip bonus and tumble at the speed of instant. If the raw damage is bothering you so much, you could likewise tumble a room away, fly, and heal. Before he (ixion, etc) can find you, get you down, etc... you should be good to go.

Well, there is a reason that, for a time, Dracnari were basically the race most knights wanted to be.
![happy.gif](style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif)
Just keep in mind that not all races have both of them in a "decent" amount.

Truth.
Note however that knight damage is nerfed to hell, and now with the changes nerfed even more. Mage damage >>> knight damage with AND without a demesne.
Also, if I didn't have sandals, I'd be mildly annoyed at the sprint change.

Sure, Nars. Give me the ability to summon a bunch of Fae, toss hexes, and toss aeon, and you'd be right. Because at that point, I'd be a Moondancer with more health and field plate.
However, I'm not. I'm a knight, which is a very different class from a Moondancer.
