I tested Thornlash a bit with Elryn when it first was introduced. I noticed a few things that I will list below.
1. Ignite removes all lashed limbs.
2. I can use summer to remove other entanglements after I regain balance from writhing and before I have completely writhed out of the lash. It only took me 1.281 seconds at size 15 to regain balance. Since lash does not stop attacks, I do not see why it would hinder me from writhing and then starting my offense again once I regained balance. I will seek to test that to make sure.
3. Thornlashed limbs randomly slow movement, so it was still possible for me to run if I needed too.
4. Sap removes all of the lashes, and does not allow new ones to be given.
5. Thornlash does bleed like the devil, but there are ways to help reduced the double effect bleed has on our stat pools.
6. Writhing speed from Thornlash is based on a person’s size. So, at size 15 it took me 4 seconds to completely writhe out of the thronlashed limb, while at size 12 it took me 3.5 seconds.
So, from what I saw just from initial test I conducted, my only worry was that size should not effect writhing speed from thornlashed limbs. I have not checked to see if Thornlash requires the person to have balance before he can writhe from it. If that were the case, I would just suggest removing that restriction from it. Besides what I have mentioned, I don’t see the skill being overpowered in 1vs1 combat. Group combat is another thing, but plenty of skills are overpowered in-group combat. Heck, the ability to Pinleg or severtendon in one combo/attack (which may become even more prevalent with the introduction of maneuvers) can be considered overpowered in-group combat.

It's good though, however silly it seems. However powerful lash is by itself, darkseed + lashing until you regen 2p + sap would kill anyone, and be damned easy to pull off.
Daevos2006-08-08 21:11:57
Especially in demesne, though obviously I think the dreamweavers would have the most powerful offense in that form.

You can writhe thorns while off balance. It's the web/ropes mechanic, not the crucify/pinleg/transfix one.

Darkseed is a little scary with it, but not the way you described. Most of the damage from lashing comes off of writhing (which you people need to stop doing, and stop talking about strategies that require multiple druids fighting in the same demesne.) Sap more or less kills the progression of a thornlash strategy.

Could you cure sap while lashed? Or does it just let you stack up to 5 entanglements on top of knocking them down, breaking their legs, and paralysing them? That would have been the problem, not whatever damage it would do. If you stick sap, you can just cudgel bleed them.
Gelo2006-08-09 02:21:56
sap would take off all the entaglements. So if your planning sap, make sure your target is at low health and have large bleeding already so you could kill him off easily with sap's delay.
Unknown2006-08-09 02:22:05
From what I've understood so far, if you get hit with sap, it cures any lashes you have, and prevents you from being lashes again until it's been cured.
Sylphas2006-08-09 02:26:45
Yeah, I know. Which still doesn't make any sense. I was stating why I was glad that it does that.

What doesn't make sense?
Sap suffocates the vines and they slide off.

Sap -cures- lash... so if you are lashed, then saped, then yes you can cure sap.

Actually, even though you can't stack sap and lash, I can answer this. Yes, you could. Thorns don't hinder, except when a leg thorn slows movement from a room, or an arm thorn slows balance recovery. Furthermore, it's rather important that lashes don't hinder enchantment rubs, since ignite is itself an enchantment.

They do that? I thought sap is just too slippery so you dont have to writhe because the vines slid off.
But anyway, I am glad it does that because if sap can be stacked with thornlashes it would be pretty IMBA (forgive the term

Why does sap suffocate them? Does it do that naturally? ![unsure.gif](style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif)

Umm... Well, even with the help of a druid, for trees to suddenly grow thorny vines, and wrap them around someone incredible tightly, would consume huge amounts of energy. So that would actually work efficiently, most of the energy would have to be produced in the vines themselves, sugar can only travel so fast. If sap coats all those vines, it would not only dim the light needed for the phenomenally accelerated photosnthesis that the plant was performing, it would also damage the cells containing the chlorophyll, squeezing them against eachother and mashing them and shifting them, so it would be very hard for the plant to produce enough energy to keep up its wrestling match with the victim, that, being made partially-sentient by the druid, it would pull it's vines away. As the sap was made to get the victim, not the vines, it would just let the vines pass.
Yes it's weak, and yes it relies on assumptions about how druidry works, but it makes sense. Happy?

It seemed perfectly logical up until the part about it being partially-sentient. Although that is still a reasonable explanation, we could strengthen the argument by just saying that given it's inability to produce more energy, the excedingly high metabolism for the vines consumes it and they wither and drop away.
How's that?
How's that?

Well, it works, but it would mean that the druidds aren't communing with the intelligence of the forest, they are using the trees as dumb muscle.
Vix2006-08-09 15:34:58
Or... holding vines on someone requires a lot of concentration, and sap requires a lot of concentration too so you can't do both at once?
