Do we really even need something to replace wisp/summon? It's not like having them gone is particularly crippling to a mage/wiccan's solo offense. Fae and demesnes were already pretty balanced, they don't need new abilities.
They weren't extremely "empowering" to a mage/wiccan's solo offense either. On that basis, they would have never been removed.

Hey, that sounds like fun! Or you could just give them a hinkypunk and leave it at that. I hate ideas forum. I always post too much.
A hinkypunk is a willowisp.

Yrael2006-04-26 12:24:48
Stay there. I have my names mixed up.
Edit: That's it. A Fuath. Slimy and tainted. Since you people already have Baobonasith. I think. Anyway. Fuath. And it lets the Moondancers practice moonlit bondage on a fae.
..or waterhorses and give them dash, but I don't think that counts.

Like... katana?
The word, the idea, the creatures, they all come from a mythology could be.. a little inaccurately.. referred to as 'Celtic'. They are at least from Irish and English folklore. Mixing in some Japanese stuff would cross genres and that's icky. Fine with other stuff.. swords and the like.. your katana for example.. but not with the Fae.
P.S I'm not actually sure where the katana comes into it..

So, in that case, there's no need for anything to replace them.

Shayle and I are going to be making suggestions regardless. We lost the most useful ability in Wicca. I feel we should get something useful in return.

Fixed for you! No need to thank me, just doing my Forums duty.

Narsrim2006-04-26 15:40:39
What's your point? If you look at abilities in Lusternia, wisp probably didn't make the top 5 in being overpowered. What if Necromancy suddenly lost Ghosting or Sacraments suddenly lost Inquisition or Geomancy lost poison gas or Pureblade lost Assault...
I'm willing to bet there would be some expectation of a substitute.

Xenthos2006-04-26 16:01:05
I'd have to say you're both wrong. Pooka is still the most useful and the most overpowered fae in wicca.
(With spore circles being right up there on the usefulness department, of course!)
Expecting a substitute is fine, Estarra's even said she's willing to consider it. However, expecting something powerful that will considerably increase your solo offence or defence is not. A lot of these ideas are pretty good, and I do like the idea of a wyrden-type fae that is summoned normally by Shadowdancers without being bound by shadows, but needs to be bound with moonlight when summoned by Moondancers. It'd be a neat little twist.
Go by your own words, Narsrim- something small that may provide some benefit. This benefit can be something as small as filching a few coins from someone's inventory.

Brownies are actually earth based Fae. All Fae were related to one element in Celtic lore.
Your missing my point here...
When you are dealing with a forest, like Faethorn, all the creatures there will fit with a certain element. Its just going to happen, because Forests have all the elements in them. (thats why its the plane between prime and elemental... but nevermind that)
Currently, we have two types of fae, Faethorn fae, and Kelpies. Some of the faethorn fae, very clearly are in the sky, and deal with wind.. only one I can think of is the Slyph. They do air type things.
Currently, no fae goes underground, and is focused with being underground.
Celest, has a link to Kelpies, it would be nice if Magnagora could have alink to Kobolds. Kobolds can live in the blasted lands, and mountain regions, even get thier own little quest area there eventually. If you can think of a good fighting ability for kobolds, it would just be awesome.
As for Japanese fae, its a bit odd. It would be like sticking some pagan/earthly concept into Highmagic... and I do believe that Shikari brought the katana to the Basin, because I agree its the only one that doesn't fit, but theres also no western greatsword thats known to be fast.

If we were to add a new wicca skill and if it were to be a replacement of willowisp, the two fae names I like best are "spriggan" and "boggart".
I have no idea what either could do in-game, but I like the mythos of a spriggan in that it is a tiny thing but can inflate itself to an enormous size.
BTW, who said a new wicca skill has to be a new fae? For example, toadcurse.

*ponder* A new curse would be cool.

A support fae was removed, so personally, I'd like to see the skill replaced by another support fae.
Also, the nine fae in Faethorn thing was kinda important to Faethorn quests (three for each Night/Moon avatar). If the willowisps are being removed from Faethorn, some new fae should replace them in Faethorn and Wicca. If they aren't being touched, then we really should be able to summon them. One of the two for consistancy.

Shorlen, I have counted 4 types of fae in faethorn that wiccans can't summon...
though I do hope they have something "happen" where the willowisps shout out... We hate being brought to moon and Night, we want to stay in faethorn forever, and because you have betrayed us, we will not come to your... Hey whats that over there? SHINY!

In the caribbean we have lore about a creature called Lygaroo. It is suppsedly a creature that flies through the air in the form of a fireball and sucks your blood when your alseep. Also they say putting a bowl of sand in front of your house stops them from comming in.
Maybe that could be a fire fae who saps your health?
or catches you on fire?
or causes red marks to come up on your skin which cause the target to lose balance?
or randomly breaks your defences one at a time?
or it has a chance of blocking an attack?

Oh? Are they wild Fae? Mother Moon and Mother Night are only concerned with "wild" Fae. A brownie explained this to me once.
Daganev2006-04-26 18:50:42
What Moon and Night are intersted in, do not affect what a wiccan can summon.
I don't see Moon or Night being interested in Mushroom circles.
