What are the strong points of Telepathy cause all i hear is that its good if you can debate? Is it really useful with a aquamancer demesne?
Tervic2006-04-24 03:59:13
I had a friend who transed telepathy and could whack me with 3 afflicts simultaneously and I really couldn't whack him back cuz then he'd mindcontrol me and make me fall over or DIVE or something else equally stupid, mindcontrol me to make me drop my antidote potion, then poke me with a crotamined dagger. So yeah. Telepathy.
Kharvik2006-04-24 04:05:21
If you can debate well, you can kill anyone...
Ekard2006-04-24 06:53:41
If i would go mage i would go telepathy. You wont be as tank as with telekinetics but telepathy sounds so cool.
It was paint to figth with Geb when he was one. He gave me a shovel and ordered me to dig in middle of fight!

Yeah, I've been thinking about going Telepathy to kill people with debate + mindburst. Not sure though.

Could you imagine that existing in real life? You'd be striking your sword at them and they'd be shoving a shovel in your arms, yelling "Dig, maggot!"
Aiakon2006-04-24 15:30:03
hey.. that's quite clever actually.. presumably digging takes lots and lots of balance time...
Tzekelkan2006-04-24 15:32:31
It does. A lot. A bit less than it takes to teleport back to your nexus.
Narsrim2006-04-24 16:04:26
Telepathy, in my opinion, pales against Telekinesis.
The afflictions are relatively easy to cure. Peace, Epilepsy, Stupidity, and Paralyse all have secondary symptoms that you can identify and heal. Furthermore, with focus mind + allheale, it is going to be difficult to stack much of anything... and what you can stack only goes as far to hinder the target from hitting you (paralyse, peace, epilepsy, etc). It doesn't provide you with any real syngery to kill the target.
Mind burst sounds impressive, but the "debate to win" strategy isn't very good. All someone has to do is beat you down while you attempt to debate to keep you at bay. Web, stun, sliced tendon, paralyse, etc. make successive debating difficult - and a decent target is going to be switching up mindsets, making the actual time it takes to get them below 50% ego and hold them below 50% till you can regain equilibrium and mindburst difficult.
Furthermore, the debating technique requires you essentially sacrifice all possible offense aside from the demesne because you have to debate, debate, debate, debate, debate. As such, it is a prime opportunity for someone to pull out any hard offense they have - which will be easy because you aren't hindering.
I remember when Geb attempted this with telepathy. He was never able to either keep me still (if I felt I was losing ego too quickly, I'd just move) or stay unhindered to pull it off. The one time he did debate me, I immediately spored and regained my ego. At this point, he had to wait ~10 minutes before he could again debate.

Taking a Narsrim spin on this strategy, I'd give you a shovel and order you to bury your weapons. At this point, you have two options:
#1 Leave the sword buried
#2 Dig the sword up, at which point I'm going to grab it before you recover balance
=====
<3 win-win options.

I really don't see how debate has its place in a fight, from an IC point of view. I mean, there's people's organs flying around you, someone's swinging an axe at your head and you're.. debating? Seems weird :/
Although I guess you can argue you're debating your enemies into submission or something to that effect, or simply trying to hold them at bay with words and then sneaking your ego-based instakill.

Hrm. What about slit throat? I mean if you can't even talk, how exactly can you debate?
Tzekelkan2006-04-24 17:45:37
How about pierced lung? You're so exhasted and out of breath, you shouldn't be able to.
Oh, and how about if you were unnaturally stupid, you would lose every argument in the debate, regardless of mindsets.

Wouldn't that actually make the debate + mindburst thingy easier? Just keep them stupid, and if you win every round they'll be taking a lot of ego damage.

Too bad you can't influence other players. I would be actually useful in battle:
influence Daevos with teasing
You tease Ur'Warlord Daevos, the Dragon of Midnight, ridiculing his outlandish style and manners.
Ur'Warlord Daevos, the Dragon of Midnight breaks down and sobs, telling you how true it is that he is nothing but a pathetic fraud.

Debating has its own drawbacks obviously. In one of my fights against Geb as a Telepath I changed my mindset at a critical moment and shattered him in the midst of our fight, greatly halting his offenses. With Telekinesis he is a lot deadlier, I would suggest TK over TP for a Mage, it just has so much more fighting potential, not to mention Forcefield is godly.

Hmm, Brokenjaw, Slitlock, Brokenchest, maybe impaled and such things should stopd debating.

Well, if you would want to be 100% realistic, Sipelus is right. While someone is slicing and slashing at you and cutting your ears off, you aren't exactly in the mood to argue with them on the purpose of life. I'd expect you to be screaming in pain and agony at least.

Would be fine by me if we changed it to that. Don't want to watch my ego in fights too.
