Has anyone really tried telepathy with debating not so broken though? I think it has potential.

You shouldn't be able to debate when being burned by cosmicfire too! Makes as much sense as when being slashed or whatever.

It was just an example. Debating while receiving ANY damage is pretty ridiculous. Since when did bullied kids ever tried (and succeeded) talking their bullies out of their evil ways...
Of course, bullied kids never had mindburst.

Narsrim is right on this one. I've been doing much testing with debating, and, unfortunately, all it takes is for someone to have a reflex to randomly switch mindset when someone debates you. Easy as that. If you don't debate back, they'd be hard pressed to lower your ego below halfpoint.
Unless, say, they had significantly higher charisma than you, then it would be possible- but even then, it's a matter of luck, and even then, you'd have to keep them still.

I was really considering switching to telepathy especially with Geomancer demesnes dealing damage; however, the only way I am at all effective at debating is as a faeling with my 24+ charisma which, in turn, would make me about as tanky as a wet paperbag without my beloved forcefield, therefore I'd most likely just die before getting them low enough to mindburst

24+ charisma?

24+ charisma?
It's actually pretty easy to get to about 22 or so as a faeling, without too much things to do.
Aiakon2006-04-25 15:16:40
too many.

Am I the only one who finds this whole idea stupid?
You're in the arena, someone just slammed a huge boulder in your face... yes you are bleeding...
but wait! Let us hold a debate! "yes... the boulder you sent at me was surely composed of Granite!"
"I beg to differ!", he shrewdly interjects "the boulder was dark! It could not have possibly been Granite, which is brighter. It was in-fact a ...." no one cares...
I don't know... I would never feel right about doing something so far-fetched.
Cheers anyways.

I prefer to think of it this way.
PONTIFICATION: You know you're going to lose this fight, you always lose your fights because you're an egomanical and inferior twit...
PETTIFOGGERY: You know know you're going to lose this fight, because in the second footnote of page 347 of Murphy's Guide to Combat it says that in these seven specifiic situations...
PASSION: You know you're going to lose this fight, by the gods, sweet Raziela, you're going to lose, lose, lose for the sake of the pathetic life that is yours...

ANALYTICAL: I will not lose this fight, as your baseless argumentation and insult-throwing is an indirect consequence of some sort of childhood trauma and/or superiority complex.
PEDANTIC: I will not lose this fight, seeing as you completely overlooked line two, paragraph B, undersection Y92, chapter 12-and-a-half, page 201 from Narsrim's "Vade Mecum Pugnae" where...
CAUTIOUS: I will not lose this fight, simply because your attempt to inducing me into guilt and inferiour morale is just a form of inane intimidation.
*slams another boulder in your face*

I am rather proud of myself for initiating this...
I am amused

How exactly does hivemind work? In my opinion, two or three linked telepaths should be the most deadly group combo in the game, considering they all need the same skillset transed and it's not a wonderful skillset to begin with.
Unknown2006-05-02 05:58:26
I think all Hivemind does is increase the max ego of members of a telepathic net thing relative to the total number of telepaths involved. As far as I know, that's all it does.
I'm not a telepath or an involved fighter though, so I could very easily be wrong about this.

Diamante2006-05-02 06:23:57
umm, telepaths own
Revan2006-05-02 06:26:59
Hivemind simply gives us a private channel that can be heard on any plane, including aetherships, without having to have broadcast. And it gives about 100-300 eg per additional member
Diamante2006-05-02 07:46:22
why yes, telepathy does own revan
Revan2006-05-02 08:43:07
Dia, stop being a sour grape I'm sure there'll be good warrior changes.
