Shulgin I got from the last name of the psychopharmacologist Alexander Shulgin. Though the name I most often use in games and MUDs is Marlowe T. Williams. He's my alter ego of sorts..
Or Uri at times because it's an Israeli name and I took Hebrew for a year while in college and dug the hell out of it.

I grabbed a random book on the shelf behind me and read the back of it, and thus Torak was born.
Richter2006-04-26 21:08:14
Richter just sounded cool.
Iblis2006-04-26 21:37:39
Initially I thought this was a made-up name, but I've hence discovered I was incorrect.

Yrael, from Ian Irvine's "Well of Echoes" quartet. Not sure which book, but I *think* it's the third. Maybe the fourth.
You mean you didn't get it from Garth Nix's "Abhorsen" series?
As for Vix... Ehh...

No. I AM NOT NAMED AFTER SOME GIGANTIC MAGIC SILVER KITTY OF PUREST FISHY DESIRE. I DID NOT READ THAT SERIES UNTIL QUITE A BIT OF TIME LATER.
*pant* Yrael in THOSE series is a fairly minor Aachim, mentioned once or twice. (long lived, incredibly arrogant species, with a tendancy to screw themselves over and whinge for centuries on end. Elves on heroin, basically. Plus they have really long fingers and a vestigal tail. Even though all I used is the name. The arrogance is native to me.

My sister's boyfriend, who's german, says that "Richter" is "Judge" in German. Or its close to the word.
Erm..Ksilrinda just came from me throwing letters together and using K for the first letter. Yeah, I do that alot. Ysrae was the same, so was Kaliena, and other names. Me just throwing letters together to get odd, and sometimes rather long, names.
Verithrax2006-04-27 01:59:01
Verithrax is a very minor character in a certain RPG.
Arix2006-04-27 02:05:29
Castle Falkenstein?
Unknown2006-04-27 03:03:30
Lleld is from The Last Dragonlord by Joanne Bertin. Fantasy book, not really stunning but I named my computers after characters from it, heh. I used it as the name for my WoW main character first and it's travelled with me to Lusternia since they're both druids. I normally use surnames of authors now-a-days for characters.

Yeah. If I hadn't mentioned it in another thread, I'd ask you how you know. The game is pretty obscure.
Arix2006-04-27 03:12:52
I didn't see it in another thread. I had read about that game as a result of a long and involved wikipedia search one day, and I saw that name in one of the things I read.

In a very uncreative manner, Kell was made by replacing the 'i' in 'kill' with an e.
... it sounded a wee bit cool as well, at the time.

Shaeden2006-04-27 06:15:32
Where Shaeden came from I have no idea. Was lurking in the back of my mind (it's not exactly original) for a while. PS. I like Kell. (That was more the point was to post about Kell, but I figured I should say about Shae's name too)
Auryone2006-04-27 06:33:46
"Auryon" means hunter (feminine derivative of the constellation Orion), which was what I was going to name my dancer in RO, except someone already had it so I added an 'a'. My original attempt to create a character named Auryona resulted in a timeout, so I changed the 'a' to an 'e'.
Ailean2006-04-27 08:01:21
Ailean is Gaelic for 'bold'. As soon as his sister pops back up again he's going to bloodline with the name Laodhan which is Gaelic for 'heartwood'. Jace is just what my freinds call me. My real name's Jason. Simple enough.
Edit: By the way, Torak... David Eddings is one of my favorite authors! I know that book you grabbed.
