Actually, I think you're thinking of my post, Mirk. Where I said that my sister's bf said that Richter is "judge" in german or some such.

I thought he got it from the German noun meaning judge or something to that extent...
At least that's what I think he said in another post, but I'm not sure and don't care to find it.

Um...wow...obsess much?
I need to reread abhorsen, because I don't remember him turning into a dwarf...(unless there's some other book he wrote I don't know about, and if so, please tell me. PLEASE)
@shiri- that's a badger? I can see it when I really look at it, but I always thought it was a whale or something like that...

Judge would make sense. It judges the earthquakes

In Sabriel, it says that Sabriels dad always saw him as an "albino dwarf boy", and he appears as that in Abhorsen aswell. His dwarf form still likes loves fish, however...

No, the Richter scale is named after the guy who invented it, Charles Richter.
Ashteru2006-05-07 11:04:59
Richter means Judge, yeah.

Richter means Judge, yeah.

It originally meaned magistrate (or more accurately translated 'the lord's administrator of a village') It became judge in later times.

now that I was able to be a nitpick, I got Arissa from a Greek mythology book, it was one of the farmers in a story, and it means erm, Sowing the fields.

I am talking about present meaning, since german is my first language and Richter -means- judge. tongue.gif
Akila2006-05-15 21:36:33
Akila means Intelligent, Logical . Her character is very much like this. Also, she isn't that talkative. She much rather use her words to battle then actually battle, though she does enjoy the taste of blood on her sword.

Silferras was adapted from Silfyrras, from silver and.. well, some sounds that tasted nice. The latter was a name I thought up for a forestal character for a message board RPG quite some time back, and I thought the 'y' was quite hindering to look at so I substituted it. happy.gif

And if I'm not wrong, it's entirely original. cheer.gif

That makes two none-Ebonguard in Glomdoring with swords. This is getting confusing. blink.gif

Ah... my name once belonged to an alu-fiend in another world...

Her truename was Ky'leel, though she was known more often by her usename of T'lat.

If Ky'leel has any meaning, then I am not aware of it.
Though I believe T'lat to mean 'hope' in one of those lower planar tongues...

Kahazul just sounds cool. Made it up. Can'tah is ripped from a Stephen King novel. It means 'little god' in the language of the great old ones.
Lanko2006-05-16 18:45:11
I kind of took Lanko from the word Lurking, since he was a dawnstrider in Achaea first.

Talkan was my first ever character in any mud. A Troll Paladin in Achaea, the name just popped in there. Sounded good for a troll
Acrune2006-05-16 18:53:24
Hmm, don't think I've posted here yet. My name is completely original. Whee. Although since I've had it, the name has popped up in a few other places when I google it. Some girl is using it as a username on some website, its been used as a type of weapon, I think it was, on some random fantasy site, and there is some program or something called AcRune. I guess the name is so cool that everyone tried to steal it. happy.gif

And Shiri's avatar is obviously a jumping whale.

Rhysus2006-05-16 20:38:36
Heh. This is odd. Rhysus is a bastardized version of the name of the lead bad dude in a Final Fantasy VII based RPG for the TI-89 calculator. I think his name was Rhyzun.

That's what I thought.

And Mirk's name is probably the most random choice-wise. I couldn't think of a character name, pressed some random keys on my keyboard, and viola(followed by a little editing of it...).
Unknown2006-05-16 21:17:37
My IRL name is Candice, yet everyone calls me Minay... So I guess that's where Myna came from.
Daganev2006-05-16 21:27:10
I challenge anyone to get less google hits with thier name than with Daganev... current google hits with Daganev is ... OH NO! its like 320...

Damn that google... well it use to be 23. Guess I'm getting more exposure on the internet.
ferlas2006-05-16 22:27:54
