Curious that you two are cooks and yet I see tons of Magnagorans coming to my shop in Glomdoring for foods all the time. Hmmm...
The insult! I demand an Iron Chef-esque contest (complete with bad voice overs and ditzy judges) to determine the best.
Okay, now on a serious note. Without a shop (which I don't have), cooking is horrible for making money. I mostly took it for the fun rp of being a chef, refinement amongst a city that just eats carrion for every meal.
In truth, I suspect very few with trade skills actually turn a profit at all, except over a very long period of time. Would be interesting if somebody had the time to figure out profits compared to costs (note I'm including the cost for credits, purchasing shops, commodities, shop taxes, etc)
edit: Did I mention I have mercury out to wazoo? I'm sure it can't be good for anybody's health
Penelope2006-04-29 21:11:08
I turn a very good profit. I can pull a good 50-60k from my shop an in game year.
Dvyrus2006-04-29 21:18:24
I was including the price for buying a shop and credits when I said that. More curious to see how long it would take to 'break even' so to say, where you've paid for the initial capital costs.
Athana2006-04-29 21:21:22
Or you could contest me for TM and get a free shop with no taxes I rake in 30k per day...but most of it is from selling keg refills not food, sadly.
Arix2006-04-29 21:26:47
My tradeskill is simple: Booze. Not cooking, brewing. And for those of you who say that brewing is not it's own tradeskill, well, you can take an emty bottle and
Ashteru2006-04-29 21:29:36
Okay, I switched now.
Herby here.
EDIT: And daddy's got 2 mercury for you, Ferl.

Herbalist, it's great. With a simple harvesting script I can harvest and read scrolls at the same time. It's great for income, and it's something to do in my spare time. Also, unlike those other tradeskills, I don't have to put anything into this one to get something from it.
Also, what do philosophers stones do?

Forging here...
And what is this income you all speak of? I can't seem to find it...
I do enjoy it though, I just wish that it were possible to make money without transing the skill.

'Cause you charge insane prices.

My tradeskill shall forever remain Artisan, until i complete the set of Bar furniture i was trying to create, it's really while one of the worst income wise tradeskills, one of the most worthwhile ones. Well for me.
Valarien2006-04-30 06:42:53
Pish, Bookbinding.
My only problem is that the only way I could ever dream of turning a profit would be to throw out a ton of magic scrolls, though those reduced gold outlays made things a lot better for the actual -writing- books and scrolls.
Actually, I don't even see Bookbinding as a trade anymore, so much as an Rp Element. Val's the Librarian, he makes books... In fact, the only reason I've made books at all recently is so people could put something into a form I could submit.
I'm not Trans yet, but hopefully I will be soon...
Maybe even by the end of the Night

Ailean is a trans alchemist. Whoever it was who asked, Phil stones just lower the amount of Power we use in amalgamating. Jace is a trans Cosmic Enchanter.

Please tell me your script doesn't just strip harvest.
I am quite annoyed that I was wandering around the sea for about an hour before I actually saw the plants that are mean't to be there. More so that I didn't realise they were missing till i saw them though
And someone took nearly everything from the area near mother *sniffle*

Artisan. I enjoy it, it's interesting, and it saves me a lot of money on my manse. Also, my customers tip really generously, and I'm starting to get a group of core return customers.
Not good for making an income, but good for supplementing one.

Alaskar2006-04-30 20:07:01
no, My script leaves 7-10 of the herb, whichever I choose. Depends on how common it is, and I only harvest galingale and Chervil. And doesn't strip harvesting kinda hurt the harvester too?
And what is Amalgamating?

Well... not really I know of quite a few I would rather buy from. I am currently a Herbalist but I have had trans tailoring and bookbinding, Tailoring is good for helping novices, but I found that I kept helping people and have maybe 10K gold owed to me from various people. Atleast with herbs I won't be giving away money.
Just when I thought I'd found a tailor!
Jewelry was very lucrative for me, but that was a long time ago and before a lot of changes came in. More than anything else, I just liked making the designs as TM. Same goes for forging, but I enjoy the actual process of crafting the items a lot more than I did with jewelry.
Revan2006-05-01 21:29:32
Enchanting! For me it usually rakes in ALOT of money, when I can get customers. Cubes kind of shot the trade down the drain, but I can still make a living.

I don't 'dabble'. I have mastered the craft into oblivion. I'm so good at it the weaving machine moans when I work it. I'm the best tailor there is.
Well, I'll be, once that damn highdisfavour wears out.
In your dreams.
108 exclusive cartel designs and counting, 51 one of which you can only get from me or Isluna, the other 57 from only me.
And you have how many?

I think I can fairly say I have the jewelry craft pretty well mastered.
