Question: Can people, for example tailors, create their own patterns? Or are the patterns pre-made?

You can request patterns through the Charites...but from my experience they seem to have a long approval period

In your dreams.
108 exclusive cartel designs and counting, 51 one of which you can only get from me or Isluna, the other 57 from only me.
And you have how many?
There is no way you made the gold to buy those cartels with tailoring alone, and if you did, you could've done the smart thing and blowed it all on booze, hookers, credits and a manse (In that order). So, in fact, you're losing money from tailoring, while I'm going around selling 2000 worth of clothing for over 5000 when I find dumb enough customers. Trade skills are about the money, kid.

*snicker*
And I'm the forging guy, or at least I think I am. By the way, I'm a blacksmith, the skill is forging, though I constantly hear people asking for a forger. Then I make the same quip about illegal documents.
If multiplaying was allowed, I'd be everything, since I have one of each cartel. I guess I'll just have to stick with outsourcing my trademaster duty to other people.

Ah, the consumate politician: If you have no hope of upholding a ludicrous claim, you pretend you were claiming something else all along.
No, I didn't make my vast fortune in Tailoring. I made it cartography, and I reinvested the profits in all sorts of interesting ways, including Tailoring. You've got to spend money to make money, and I'm right on track for seeing my Tailoring investment pay for itself in the time frame one would expect to start turning profits with a RL business.
Granted, that's farther in the future than I've ever stayed with a MUD before, but I suspect I'll actually be here that long this time. And even if I'm not, in the mean time I'm doing exactly what I want; having a blast; and building a loyal clientelle by providing unique, quality product.
Now let's see...

... you could've done the smart thing and blowed it all on (1) booze, (2) hookers, (3) credits and (4) a manse (In that order).
1) Rhosyn makes me any kind of "booze" and other treats I ask, at no further charge, since I invested very heavily in her business.
2) I need hookers like a polar bear needs to buy ice.
3) I've earned probably upwards of 7000 credits through my various creative endeavours right now. I would buy credits with gold because...?
4) It's called the Palace of the Dawn. Hardly the largest in the aether, at sixteen rooms and growing, but extremely lavish.
I could list off all the other luxuries, but addressing your priorities list seems more than adequate.
Life's all about the long term view, "kid". Maybe when you understand that you'll stop treating other people like they're just marks in your con game.

forging sucks to make money at. Poisons I've invested about 30k into and have made well over 200k in the span of two months.

So... in other words, "I've made a lot of credits from things completely unrelated to tailoring, and spent them on a lot of things unrelated to tailoring, and my use of tailoring has never been highly profitable, but I'm better than Verithrax because I can debunk claims that were humorous in the first place". Er, okay then.

I'd just like to point out that Tailoring is rediculously profitable. At least it was when I was a tailor.
With just tailoring and some influencing, I made hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of gold. This was with a shop though.
But before I stopped playing that character, I had more than payed for the 300 credits used to buy the tradeskill.
I have no idea how you tailors are currently complaining about a lack of profit. Things either changed completely, or you guys just don't know how to run a buisness

Tailoring is very profitable. I used to make a massive amount from it back when I had a shop.
Also, it's time to shamelessly hijack this.

I guess there are worse threads to get post #2500 in.

Enchantment is really fun. I usually get a good amount of business because I advertise on market. It helps to have a reliable supplier of inexpensive powerstones.
Marcalo2006-05-24 17:25:36
alchemy right now, its alright not very profitable. but I am still learning how much I should charge for vials of diffrent things.

Faethyr: Bookbinding. I say again: NERF/SHRINK-A-LOT GOLD OUTLAYS!!!!! Just because they last forever doesn't mean they should cost more than a decent peice of jewelry.
Cyaece: Jewelry. He loves it. Haven't actually sold anything yet, but it is so fun. I've already got an idea for a ring design... *goes off to scribble furiously*
