Bored in Lusternia

Sorry if this is the wrong section, but, gah.

Recently, I've gone semi-inactive in the realms. Not that anyone notices anyways. :/

There's just a lack of anything to do. I can't fight without more Druidry skills, I hardly know anyone in my guild or commune since they're not nearly talkative, I can't influence in any village revolts.

If I ever come around, it's just to check the news, or maybe bash a level on my alt. Is it me, or does Lusternia just feel...cold? I only know one person who I knew in Achaea, he's not around much anymore.

Bash? I've gotten to level 55..ish. I'm not even around much to remember. Even if I'm mugwump and need more health, badlike, I've bashed myself out. I used to have Herbs tradeskill, that was boring. There's no Order to match my character's beliefs...mehh

I can't advance to a full Hartstone member (To my knowledge) because the needed rite is put on hold, hasn't been performed in ages, the like. I haven't seen much of an event for awhile, either, and those are like magnets for me.

What's left to do? losewings.gif

(Edit: Forums was a last resort to find advice on -something- to do. I tend to avoid the aggressiveness of most people in forums, meh.)

I have to disagree. I've found tons of stuff going on. The Faethorn event was great, had a lot of stuff with that. From what I hear (since my character is still away for a few more months), tensions exploded for a bit between Serenwilde and New Celest. Every time I go in, someone has a new problem. Maybe it's just because I've only been playing since the new year, but I haven't found Lusternia to be cold.

Lusternia is cold, and will be fore a few more weeks, and then it will warm up again.

Tis the season.. it was the same last year.

However, if you try making a new charachter and trying another place, you may find things you never knew about.

Its also why I think they have credit sales this time of year..

There was just a rite not to long ago.

Well, I've been bored for about a month or so... Feels like I've achieved almost everything and there isn't anything to do. Lately I've been spending my time elsewhere...

Boredom aside, I'm trying to figure out why your forum name matches my alt's Lusternian name. *shakefist*

Not that I've put more than about 10 minutes into him, but I bought credits, so he'll be there forever.

People keep asking 'Are you a Riddik fan?' Apparently, Furien's some sorta race in the Riddik..movie...things. I'm confused. tongue.gif

I don't think that becoming a full member of the guild would help really with the boredom factor. I didn't really think much changed from before and after. You're kind of involved or you're not and you don't need a rank to change that. Perhaps a change of scenery would help? I came here because I was bored with Aetolia
Shaeden2006-05-04 03:37:32
Gotta force yourself to meet people. I was hella bored with Lust before I got involved with people. There's lots going on- it's just under a few layers
Sarin2006-05-04 19:24:16
Furien you can advance to being a full member, just talk to me or Nessa or Gelo ...
As for interacting... yeah I find the same problem but I know that in my case it's partially my fault.
Richter2006-05-04 19:51:13
Find an interesting person to roleplay with. Ask me about history sometime, I'll bore you to death, and you'll be inspired to go do something fun. biggrin.gif

um, I think Furien was the name of the race Riddik was, but that's about all I know...

plus Astrasia, and most of the undersecetaries including myself.
I would make an alt and see how that goes. I did that and came back to Kharne as hes da best...very crappy fighter though
Ashteru2006-05-05 10:08:11
Psh, in Seren the fighting abilities of the individual don't count. You just need to send a mental message to the rest of the swarm and see them come.
Revan2006-05-05 13:55:03
They require more vespine gas!

Boredom arises from expecting a MUD to be something it's not.

I was going to say it arises from treating it like just another game, but that's not true.

Think of the time you've invested in Lusternia. Then thinking of pouring that sort of time into any other activity in so short a span. Would you be any less bored? Burned out?

You're expecting Lusternia to be a surrogate life for you, but one in which you're spoon fed all the options and storylines like a game.

If it's just a game, treat it like a game. Play while it interests you, then get out and see a movie when it doesn't. Take your significant other ona date. Pull out the old Nintendo. Read a good book. Whatever works. Just don't let people (yourself included) pressure you into putting more time than you enjoy into Lusternia.

If it's more of a second-life, treat it like one. Don't expect a finite world and a small -- mostly volunteer -- staff to keep you personally entertained out of the hundreds of active players. Make your own, very long-range goals and plans that aren't dependent on divine intervention (I'm still building up momentum on things I started over a year ago). Or find someone to give you goals and direction. And if you have trouble meeting people, go out of your way to meet novices. That's the easiest time to make friends with other players, before their lives are all tangled up with the traditional MUDing treadmills.

If you choose to be bored, you will be bored. Every time someone on a MUD complains about boredom, I'm reminded of the one I would frequent where, as New Years eve approached, a friend of mine went to the trouble of setting up an extravagant party, building a banquet hall, special foods, various special effects, and invited the usual clique of people who would sit around the town square, bellyaching about how utterly bored they were. They kept right on complaining, unwilling to even get up and catch the fast train to her party to see if it might be better than this awful state of boredom they were in.

Boredom is a problem only you can solve, whether that means taking more responsibility for your own entertainment on Lusternia, or seeking your entertainment somewhere else.
