Out of curiosity, I ventured over here from Achaea, created a novice just to see what the world was like and gah, I was impressed. Roleplaying here is much better, and the ability to choose what skills you gain is great as well. However, initial character creation is near insane, because before you know anything about the world, you've chosen your race, age (why?), guild, city and who knows what else, I got lost in all of that.

My questions are as follows:

What are the different cities like? Are they all so rp-focused (which I consider a good thing)?

Are their race/class combinations that just don't work?

Any Achaean/former Achaean players, what differences have you noticed and do you spend more time here or there and why?

Any other advice to a total n00b is welcome.

Achaea has pretty much turned into a giant IRC chat room with a very thin veneer of RP applied to it.

Lusternia, if yer acting OOC in a public place, you will be lucky to get away with being told off for being "insane".

Yes, no one tolerates people being blatantly OOC in says or public channels.

Are their race/class combinations that just don't work?

Yes there are, some for RP reasons, like a Viscanti Celestine, and some for technical reasons. (Though I'll leave it up to those who devote themselves to combat to point those out to you. Basically the specialized races are decent in their respective guilds, as well as the races that have warrior specializations.)

There is a lot more inter-national tension here in Lusternia, and a conflict driven atmosphere that you can jump into and really immerse yourself in if you want.

Any other advice to a total n00b is welcome.

Don't snuggle Murphy at the megalith. Avoid flaming on the forums, as it's a dangerous cycle. Ask a lot of questions of your undersecretaries, and try making characters in multiple nations to start. feel your way around to a guild/nation that suits what you want to be. Just be sure to keep your characters separated. Don't snuggle Murphy at the megalith.

Also go to www.lusternia.com into Characters, and then Races, they have a good run-down of all of the bonuses certain races get, and their stats. (Or you could just pick a race which you like their charactor artwork, heh ) There is also a place to vote for Lusternia on TMC on that website and a link to access through their Nexus client which some people like and some don't, but it's free.

I think I need to go to the website and figure out who Murphy is...
Murphy2006-05-02 11:40:48
I'm Murphy.

Don't snuggle me anywhere. You think Xenomorph can be a badass? You aint seen nothing yet. (former achaean's will get this reference)

Good to know then.

On the flipside of that, if you're a good troop in magnagora, I'll jump in a fight at any opporunity for any reason at any time.

Murphy's a snuggly. =)

Starting the game is quite confusing, yes, you have no idea what to do next. But you'll find that the guild system in Lusternia holds the players up. Whenever you have a question, ask your guild, and provided that 1) Someone else from your guild is on who isn't in the middle of a big task, and 2) Someone actually knows the answer, you'll find most people more than willing to answer questions. Also, the Newbie channel is Excellent for getting help with the game.

Agreed... I'm surprised I'm not banned yet for impulsively saying "lol" twice in a row. Someone up there really loves me. unsure.gif

Okay, we are not -that- bad with the OOC chat, but it's not liked much. Reading the histories also helps a bit on choosing a guild. Although, I went through 3 or 4 chars before I got Shaeden (Serenwilde was/is a nice starting place)

Some racial/guild combos:
The ideals:
Merian - Aquamancer
Viscanti - Geomancer
Hartstone/Moondancers - Elfen
Blacktalon/Shadowdancers - Faeling
Any warrior - Any big strong folk.

Bad ideas:
Viscanti Aquamancer
Merian Geomancer
Elfen/Faeling City guild. (it makes your regeneration skills pointless)

I think that's the basics. tongue.gif

The great thing that I think Lusternia has over Achaea is that you have a lot more potential to become known, due to a significantly smaller playerbase. I was essentially a no one in Achaea, but here I'm cr6, gr19 (formerly guild admin of the Aquamancers) in an order, and a reasonably decent combatant. Another thing is, there is always something you can do to help your org, whether it be defend, raid, do quests, influence villages, write stories, or whatever.

Also, general advice: don't listen to much said in forums. Forums breed hate, and hate breed unhappiness, which takes away from the game's enjoyment. And when you're addicted to forums, there's no going back. tongue.gif

Murphy is to Caramon as I am to Raistlin. That explaination should suffice. smile.gif
