Plus we have the program where one of the tasks to help you get up in GR can be forging. So for people who can't afford to trans a lot, they can fork out for some comms, chuck a few lessons in forging, forge a heap of shortswords, help out the guild novice program and get a GF in the bargain.

Magnagorans are incredibly helpful to novices - until you start acting like a mental deficient, or give one of the more spiteful members (Torak, Aiakon, Marcalo, Yukari, etc) a reason to hate you. Then you're screwed eight ways from sunday, sideways, too. But in general the novice programs and novice help in general is fairly comprehensive.

Yrael, whenever you write about Magnagora, I can't help but smell this extraordinarily overpowering odour of sour grapes.

And yes.. I think that our novice programmes aren't bad. The only problem with the Ur'Guard is that it's a relatively small guild, and every now and again, novices turn up and there's -no one- there to help them. At which point other citizens usually do their best to fill in.

Hmm, interesting, I found the -exact- reverse to be true. Perhaps I'll try another Mag alt to see if anything's changed.

Was it you who posted if you go into an organization expecting to disike it then you probally will no matter how good it is?
Asarnil2006-05-01 12:30:47
And all of you people SHUT UP! You are ruining our hard earned "evil bastard" rep. If one of you spill the beans about our hippy MagFest ceremonies where we all dress in floral dresses (Ixion looks hot in them btw) and sing folk songs I will KILL YOU!

Sure was, but I was actually expecting much better, due to the incessant bragging about how much better Magnagora is then every other org that is constantly being shoved down my throat on IRC.
Ashteru2006-05-01 13:27:40
Man, that's still a pretty negative view, no matter what you say.
It's like saying 'Hah, all say they are so censor.gif good, but I bet they can't give Celest the water, so let's see. Oh, they don't have this and that? A lot worse than I imagined. '

EDIT: Watch your language. ~Shiri~

'Asarnil please come down to the principal's office immediately.'

It's not that hard. Out of the all the forging cartels we are in, it's pretty easy to find a cheap design that will let novices get on their feet rather than using newbie attacks to hunt rats and the like.

You can use guild funds to pay for it, depending on your guild's finances.

I ment, how do the paladins and serenguard afford the weapons. Ebonguard affords them just fine becuase we have a small population.

Yes, but Celest and Serenwilde both have far larger commodity caches. kiss.gif

Its not that expensive to give every novice leather armour and two short swords really.
Daganev2006-05-01 17:36:05
The ebonguard don't get funding from Glomdoring. And I have a funny feeling that the Ur'guard and all other guilds, don't get free comms from the government.
ferlas2006-05-01 17:40:50
The guild shop itsself probally makes more than enough to cover newbie equitment, add in stuff like credit sales and I bet you have plenty.
Daganev2006-05-01 17:45:28
banghead.gif doh.gif

Mag: We give each of our novices weapons.

Me: Yay small populations.

Seren: We give each of our novices individual attention (no mention of weapons)

Me: How do you afford the weapons?

Mags and Gloms: Its not that hard...

Its not that hard for celest serenwilde mag or glom to afford the weapons.

I dont see the problem daganev?
Unknown2006-05-01 18:00:29
Aye. I imagine most guilds are sitting on a lot of gold - they can pull in a load from credit sales, plus a tiny sum of donations, plus a guild shop. And there's really nothing for them to spend it on, besides financing a manse or stocking up on equipment and supplies.
Hazar2006-05-01 21:57:57
I just send off every would-be forger to making marble battleaxes, and we stay well stocked. Once I can afford the comms I may even try some stocking armor for the little wyrms.

Aiakon, I can't help but notice every post in which I do not paint Magnagora in a glowing light (or lack of light, I suppose), you scream "SOUR GRAPES. SOUR GRAPES. SOUR GRAPES." Even if it's something like "Hm, the cobblestones could use a good scrubbing."

Try the others, while you're there. The Moondancers probably - probably - top Magnagora's novice programs, in the brief time I was there, everyone gave me every bit of assitance I required in a second flat, a brief introduction to bashing and quests, as well as good many hugs and "Sweeties" besides. I hate being called "Sweetie".

Don't lie, sweety.
Hazar2006-05-02 02:17:08
No, 'sweety' is fine. It's the 'ie' dimuniative that ticks him off.

I have tried the moondancers. They're extremely good. I even say so, in a thread somewhere. And Yrael, you paint Magnagora in a bad light in EVERY post. This is because you're annoyed and embittered.
