I think you all misunderstood me.
Most of people that train Serenguard novices provide them with weapons anyway. I dare to say that more of them are supplied with clubs or shortswords than they would be if we had a locked weapons rack, to which very few people would have access. Also, if the braves ask, they get a club or two. For free. The only way to provide more novices with weapons would be to have an open, unlocked rack - but it leads to thievery like that, and it probably was not a good idea.

But sure, it's easier to criticise without even knowing the whole situation.

The ur'Guard doesn't lock the weapon rack from memory - hell I kept two decent draconics in there as a test once and they were still in there when I went to restock the rack and had completely forgotten about them. If the rack gets low, someone will come along and forge a bunch more stuff for it, because frankly if someone needs to cannibalize a rack of shortswords for the couple of comms in each weapon then they need it nearly as much as the novices do.

No guilds are better at training than other guilds. However, some individuals are - including (but not limited to) Xenthos, Everiine, and Nirrti.

I agree. Since I set up the program in the first place, and you know as little as what it was as I know about what it is now, I'd say we're exactly even on that.

In any case, it's not a criticism; it's an observation of logic; generally speaking, anything that has been done is, ipso facto, not impossible. No need to get defensive about that. If "most of the time" is good enough for you and everyone, give yourselves a cookie already.

If you have a problem with it then get back on your character which has been inactive for about half a year, if you don't want to then ignore it as you have been ignoring your character’s former duties.

I've never heard a Serenguard novice complain, but I've seen LOADS of Serenguard mentors at the Moonhart Mother Tree daily, supplying those they are teaching with weapons. You are making a big deal about some unknown small percentage of potential disgruntled novices in a guild you've not had experience in for some time, and it irks me, so it must annoy Aerenna more.

I do know the current levels of novices that join as I have experience overseeing my aides who block them. I do know the current levels of metals available to the Serenwilde as I've have conversations with other Ministers. I don't have access to the current inner-guild workings of the Serenguard Novice program and thus find myself lacking to make informed decisions on this current topic when as compared to Aerenna, however you seem to think differently about your own lack of knowledge.

To some up, you can't have it both ways, either participate or don't.

Personally I'd be thrilled if the forums became smilie only.

Someone is angry about a nerf: angry.gif

Someone points out the nerf was needed: rolleyes.gif

Someone is giddy about a missaether: laugh.gif

Someone enjoys an event: wub.gif

Someone is happy about new smilies being released: wahoo.gif

Let me say it again, Wesmin, and I'll type it slower this time.

You can argue with someone about opinions if you really want to, but this, the bit where my name is on posts, this isn't about opinions. It's about the following fact: What has been done is possible. If you don't believe that, go look up the word "possible" in a dictionary. If you still want to argue with someone, go yell at the ghost of Noah Webster.

If all you want to do is spout irrelevancies in a defensive manner out of some kind of suppressed guilt or worry, do it at someone else. The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

My points still stand, and flowery sentences and archaic statements in defense of having no idea what is happening currently mean little to any but debating tutors.
Hazar2006-05-15 13:53:48
In fact, it should be more possible, because Serenwilde has more villages and, ergo facto, more metals.
Unknown2006-05-15 14:16:31
Gwylifar, stop being so condescending. (sp?tongue.gif)
Wesmin, calm down.

Or even better, take it to tells.

There.

-------------

As for novice weaponry... I'd say, whatever floats your boat. I don't quite see the logic behind the "it costs gold to provide gear, and gold is easy to get, so the novices should pay for them". Obviously, novices have quite a number of purchases to make, and cannot get gold as easily as grown characters can. So, if anything, that argument should prove the opposite point, that it really should be the guild who provides the gear, because it costs little and gold is easy to come by. tongue.gif

But as I said, as long as it works, novices tend to get outfitted in time without too much a pain in the purse, it's all fine, no?

As for the ur'Guard, it seems we've taken to keeping the rack locked lately.

MAde a Mag alt a while ago. Wow. Neat place. Never been in mag before, but I've always meant to try it out. I am greatly impressed. I see why you guys steal us all and I can never bring them back! Quite a shame the city seems kinda "sleepy." I often on with 9 other people while Celest would have 21 citizens around, which is a shame 'cause it takes away a bit from the RP. Celest is nice because we often have mindless banter going on, and everything seems happy, but there is always a sorta malevolent force in the background. (Like we enemy a novice who wouldn't leave the city) Magnagora seems the opposite: angry, and harsh up front, but forgiving and understanding in behind. *shrug* I may just not know enough about either city, but that's how I feel in both.

Oh, and Mags are as a rule, more helpful to newbies. No one gave my Paladin swords until Shric found me. mellow.gif Anyways, Mag is a really cool city, good job guys! (guys being everyone involved from Divine to mortal)

I don't even remember giving you swords... when was this? laugh.gif
ferlas2006-05-16 15:04:04
I must say the paladin novice entry thing is pretty good, I got a armor and swords and shown how to use them properly like the instant I joined.

We've still got a shortage of Undersecs; I hoped to change that. However it didn't work. doh.gif We're good at the teaching bit. and supply is good as far as I know.

EDIT: We try to supply 2 weapons, and a full set of leather armor.

Has it ever accured to you that maybe, the population has changed since you've been there?
Unknown2006-05-16 18:55:44
When I made a Paladin alt, there were quite a few people on, and I got directed to the selftraining scroll, heh.
Unknown2006-05-16 19:10:30
I was told to read the selftraining too when I made a Paladin alt...
Lanko2006-05-16 20:06:40
that's cause that's the system the Paladins use. Novices didnt like having the big lecture form, so instead the Paladins decided to give them freedom and responsibility and do it on their own, and if they have any questions they can ask over GNT. The SELFTRAINING scroll isn't for when things are busy-it's the actual process
ferlas2006-05-16 22:30:15
There was only a few on when I did it Rusta taught me then there were no swords left so ekard went and forged a load then gave me some.

... wow.

We have GHELP LEARNING and some people can go ahead and do it themselves, asking if they have questions, but in general... most of our novices REALLY LIKE having the "lecture," because they are told about what they're learning, how to use it, and can ask any question they can think of during this process without feeling like they're bothering anybody.
ferlas2006-05-16 22:45:27
Yea I really liked being taught by the paladinss Im not sure I like the idea of a teach yourself policy.

Maybe you should ask if they prefer to be lectured or teach themselves?

Erm, but that's cool that you do that!
