I'm sure a thread on this probably exists somewhere, but after looking for it for a bit, I've come up with nothing.... So I'm probably blind.
Anyways, isn't the combination of restricting Demesne size, and axeing summoning kind of completely nerfing most defensive combat techniques?
Maybe its just my imagination, but these changes really seem to have nerfed Druids and Mages a good bit... Fell free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually, the smaller size reduces the need to summon, because people aren't so far away. This is a major nerf when it comes to Wildnodes, at least.
Dysolis2006-05-01 06:07:19
I would like to note also , while reducing the need to summon it also reduces the ability to defend a villege, it takes multiple mages to defened one villege, what happens when two or three go up? it will be chaos, nothing good can come of that.

I do think that this was a pretty big nerf to mages (and to a lesser extent druids) but a needed one. Demesnes were just too unbalancing before giving one side a HUGE advantage, but with the changes it is now possible to break an enemy demesne without a guaranteed death waiting for you after every room.
EDIT: I wouldn't mind getting something neat to compensate though

I'm glad demesnes got nerfed. I hate demesnes. They should not exist. Hurray for the demesne nerf!
Murphy2006-05-01 14:10:18
It doesn't change the effectiveness of 1v1 combat, nor is it a nerf to 1v1 combat. It's a change to the rediclous effect of 1 mage being worth 2-3 warriors in groups, now mages aren't so pivotal in group vs group combat.
I'm going mage soon, and i'm hopin some exciting new changes are coming to runes!

You're... going mage?! I'm going to be in a guild with Murphy?
Dysolis2006-05-01 19:05:44
well orginally 200 room demesnes was really unnessscary as it as, I belive 75 room demesnes would be sufficent enough , and Murphy, Warriors take out mages like swating a fly, just compare your health to ours.
edit Revan: Mages are all about having a demesne, show me one guild without one and see what they would do in combat.

I think the point was, warriors could blow mages away once we got to them. With some of the major demenses, it took a small battle group to get to the mage, taking losses along the way.
I do see your point though, now that it's easier to get to the mage, the mage should have something to help defend themselves besides a massively large demense to hide in.

Quoting for truth, specially since it's coming from the guy who used to use his 200-room demesne to troll for newbies.
I think this is worth it just so that, five months from now, I can tell people about how I used to hold 200-room demesnes as an Aquamancer (Doubly surprising them!)
Suhnaye2006-05-01 22:26:44
Hmm... Druidry/Aquamancy/Geomancy as a whole I think probably needs something new/an upgrade to make up for this then... Any ideas on what it might be?

No it doesn't. 200 room demesnes were crazy. 25 is more than enough.

25 rooms is not more than enough, I agree 200 room demesns where to large, but 25 is not more than enough ,it's the exact oposite, not enough.

Why should a single mage be able to defend a whole village?

25 is plenty large. Mages should not be able to hold an entire village.
Unknown2006-05-01 23:43:45
On the bright side, now the death of one mage won't shut down your entire defensive system.
Acrune2006-05-01 23:50:27
25 rooms seems to be enough from what I've experienced so far. Although it would be nice to have a new minorly defensive skill because we have 1/8 of the potential "run away without screwing yourself" area.

That would be like saying, why should a Warrior get to wield two swords?, mages don't get two staves, instead they get a demesnse with an element they have an element to ,I never said they should be able to keep a 200 room demesne, just not a really small one, demesne travel could be more effictve in a bigger demesne, but not an insane one when you could just simply summon them instead.
