Any advice would be splendific.
My char. is a level 19 Celestine.... with something like 80 lessons stashed away.... I'm not planning to use real money on anything, so I want to make do with what I've got here.
I'm very interested in trades, but not as interested in bashing. Would it be foolish (for now) to forego learning Celestialism and Sacraments and learn a trade skill I love, instead? From all the posts I read here, tailoring seems to be one of the most creative and fun trades. Cooking sounds cool too, but I've tried cooking before in other games, and it doesn't help because I get hungry as I'm reading all those mouthwatering recipes.
As far as guild secondary skill, I'm interested in Astrology.
Don't know which way to go!

I suggest making a poll and changing the font to the default one.

If your not willing to go "bashing" to get gold so you can buy credits to increase your skills, I think your better off just going for RP and writing books or the like.
Trades normally are not profitable untill your trans, unless you pick something like herbs, which I don't think you can since you require highmagic.

And if I don't? *hands on hips*

So you're saying it can wait. Hmm. But what fun is there without trades?

One thing that is not well advertised about Lusternia, is that everyone is part of the Merchant class.
This means they may buy and sell goods at a profit if they make connections with people who can provide them with those goods via delayed payments, or just general agreements. You do not need to manufacture a good to be able to profit from it.

I'd stay away from tradeskills unless you can get somewhere near the end of the tradeskill, partially because your skill in crafting the item depends on how far along you are. I won't have a novice tailor make clothes for me, because they last a pitiful amount of time.
Ekard2006-05-03 22:34:44
Yea, some trade skills require you to be high skilled in them to make good and long lasting items.
Only tradeskill that would be good without needing to much credits to start could be enchantments.
But really if you work hard enough on your trade skill, on your connections and advertisment you can make decent gold in all tradeskills.
You would just start slow, as you wont be able to make all items from start. Only basic things first, but as richter said your clothes wont be have many months left, not like transing it would change much, around 30 months still, or am i wrong aout it?

Depends on if you're interested in combat. If you're not interested in combat or bashing as much as a trade skill, I'd say go for the tradeskill. The point of the game is to have fun, and it looks like you haven't gotten to far into your character. If you don't enjoy the tradeskill, you can always forget it (with a lesson loss) and learn other things, or if not, make a new character. You can quest or rat for good to get started on your trade, and buy credits. If you work at it, you could probably do reasonably well. A person who used to be in my guild started out as a pretty low skilled tailor, but he worked and worked at it, and now he's higher in the skill then me. Then again, I'm higher in both level, and in other skills, so again it really boils down to what you want to do with your character.
Edit: changed your font Like it though... maybe I should change mine
Daganev2006-05-04 00:05:31
gah.. don't mention ratting... ratting is for people who want to transition into the game from other IRE games, not for people who want to advance thier charachter
Acrune2006-05-04 00:59:05
Its always an option though.
Unknown2006-05-04 01:10:24
Ratting is depressing. Especially frying baby rats by accident.
Okay then, how's this: I'll muster some patience and put trade skills on the back burner and instead get those secondary "required" guild skills. And meanwhile submit a bardic work or two. ?
Daganev: Can you please elaborate on this more? :

He means that if you know people, you can buy goods at cost (or near cost) and resell for pure profit. A number of shopkeepers use this principle-- collect goods from a number of different skilled tradesfolk and sell it all in their shop.

...sounds boring...reminds me of Runescape. I still have nightmares about it.
Daganev2006-05-04 02:04:57
hmmm, then what exactly about the trades do you find interesting?
One option you might want to look into, is joining various cartels and helping them design things. You don't need many lessons in those skills to do the design work, or even to become a cartel leader.

That sounds better. Thanks Daganev.
What I meant about runescape is the profit part... buying cheap and selling expensive. At least in that game, it's a sickening never-ending cycle, no gain except more greed, a sick repetitive thing I don't want to be part of again. *Ahem*

Hey, the economics in Runescape were the fun part. Like crashing the gold market....
Shaeden2006-05-04 03:42:13
Erm, if you don't want your major/guild skills then don't put anything into them. really, with Cosmicfire, you're set. Although, you will need more lessons, and levels alone won't do (as you stated, bashing is boring). They guild/city offers credits for written work, and you can get credits from occaisional city contests, and the bardic awards. I'd try to get in on one of those for some credits too. It helps a lot. Oh, if you are going to cook, you need a spatchula, as I learned :S
Razenth2006-05-04 05:29:40
You have ADD? That's so not reassuring...

Well ive not played runescape but isnt that like part of being a profitable merchant? You buy the stuff or make it then sell it on at a profit. I mean if you want to be a trader and make money your going to have to do this, of course you dont have to if you dont want you could work pro bono for people you like and just get enought to cover your costs.
