Could Martialarts be considered?

Of course, I agree I'd want it to be different.

But the Lobo monk in the art section carries a staff. That might be interesting.

And based on Tosha, they would be quite a bit different than other IRE monks. They'd fit with using Totems without missing a beat.

Totems (with specializations different than Moon/Stag or Night/Crow, but rather something that involves the spirits in general. Maybe some way of actually evoking them and using them to afflict/attack the target?)

Martial Arts combat skill (with a specialization in either Hand to Hand or Bo fighting)

And then something else..maybe a choice between Psionics/Dreamweaving, or something to do with Meditation and empowering the monk?

You'd have the typical Mind/Body/Spirit of monks, but I'd say that it would be quite a bit different than the typical IRE variety.

It is interesting that the "spirit" plane for toscha is almost more of a ghost or afterlife plane than other things... it could be very interesting.

Combined with the Seren/Glom Totems, it actually makes sense. The Totem spirits are essentially the combined souls of the various animals, which would tie in perfectly with the Tosha Spirit Plane. White Hart especially. Crow could manage to work too, I mean, Mhaldor has a monk guild.

And that would be another unique feature--monks being forestral. LowMagic is another perfect link as well to the communes.

Edit: Though, in all honesty, just giving Seren/Ebonguard a martial arts specialization to Knighthood would make them the same sort of monk. Totems->Hart/Moon. Knighthood->Martial Arts (which makes sense, as animals fight with their 'natural' weaponry), and Athletics being obvious.

And city warriors could learn martial arts from the monks on tosha too. They can disregard the ideologies and take all of the good stuff and use the Paladin/Ur'Guard mentality.

It could be like another Guild in the Warrior speciality. Heck, they are Warriors, them monks, they just are spiritual.

But I vote for an archer/assassin/ranger related guild ninja.gif

er.. the whole point would be that city warriors didn't get it.

Considering that ur'Guard/Paladins don't have anything to do with the spirits of nature.. which the monks quite obviously do.

City warriors would get some other speciality.

And there's already a ranger specialization--Its called Hunting->Tracking

What more makes a ranger than is already in that skillset?

Arrows wink.gif

and You can be a brawler who uses fists and don't be a zealot.. err... forest zealot
Unknown2006-05-07 09:02:02
I wouldn't put Brawling on the same level as a true martial art. Nor could I see Paladins or ur'Guard training "Brawlers" They're more your classic knights.

Personally, I always thought Seren/Ebonguard should have been stuck with scalemail and gotten something slightly different in their knighthood to make up for it. I just can't picture forest fighters developing full plate armor It just seems off.

Anyway, giving bowmen solely to cities would make even less sense than that. You might hate forestrals, but at least try to be unbias tongue.gif Otherwise, even your good arguments will be given less weight.

Why would a martial artist have to use his fists? Perhaps the base skills would consist of hand-to-hand fighting techniques, but the specialization should be weapons, like Kamas, Sickles, bo staffs, etc. Not all martial artists fight only with their hands; that is simply the way most people view them.

But, I don't really want or see the point of a martial arts class here.

The skill of martial arts on Imperian is called Taekate, btw. And personally, I don't feel that monks really fit into Lusternia.
Unknown2006-05-07 17:28:43
We have the monk ideology, with the priests and everything, but we just don't need martial arts in Lusternia. No offence, but if you want martial arts, go to another IRE. It'd not the way Lusty works.
Unknown2006-05-07 18:03:21
If they were going to have a martial arts skill, I suspect it might be similar to the following.

1) Not add an archetype, but rather make MA an optional skill, maybe for warriors, although they would take MA instead of Knighthood or something like that.

2) Because of the way Lusty skills work, I suspect there would be a basic version of it up to Master and then more specialized "schools" of it. Y'know, "Hard", "Soft", "Drunken", etc.
Unknown2006-05-10 05:39:05
oooh, and Fallen, I meant Long range users for all of the Basin. Assassin guild to Mags, Rangers to Glom/Seren and Inquisitors(just in name) to Celest ninja.gif

And for specializations for "Martial Artists" I was thinking something like

Sharp Fists, which would be pure brawling and using of daggers and the like. Swift Kicks with Kicks obviously, and able to stack up to 9 combos with the help of Power, and Hard Hands which would be throws and breakers, stuff like that. 2 combos at most.

So you have "martial artist" without your "oriental feeling" and more of a warrior-esque military skills, which fits Lusternia more

and this would be an alternative for Knighthood in the Skills

mmm... bo staffs... *drool*

But I really don't think Lusternia needs more classes. I'm kinda attracted to its simplicity, and (god forbid I ever say this again) lack of choices, because otherwise I'd spend half my time mucking around in all the other spiffy skills that exist unsure.gif
Soll2006-05-10 07:01:37
Well, there's (apparently) two more archetypes to come, so...
Unknown2006-06-06 00:23:29
What would those two be?
Arix2006-06-06 02:26:14
Rainbowmancers and Boozewardens
Unknown2006-06-06 04:27:41
BOOZEWARDENS!

OMG DRUNKING FIGHTING!

Ugh, please don't bump your own stupid threads just for the sake of doing so.
