Here's a little satirical blurb that I wrote for English class which mostly applies to other teens my age. I was going to stick it in creative arts but its not about Lusternia so I put it here! Feel free to comment Also I hope no one takes any of this personally. EDIT: wrote this a while ago so some info is outdated
Did you hear?
Kevin Federline is releasing a rap album.
The House Majorirty Leader, Tom Delay, was indicted for criminal conspiracy to violate election laws. Delay, a conservative Christian known for his family values, apparently has no qualms about money laundering, for which he was also indicted.
Did you hear?
Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey are getting divorced.
2047 U.S soldiers have died in the Iraq war, a war that less than 40% of America supports. The Government has no current exit strategy, and it is likely that the earliest troops will leave the country is 2010.
Did you hear?
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are dating.
Millions are expected to die of a forthcoming avian influenza pandemic. The virus, which currently is transmitted only from bird to human, may mutate into a virus that transmits from human to human, at which point it will spread faster and likely reach America.
Did you hear?
Lindsay Lohan is getting too thin.
More than 100,000 died last month after an earthquake hit the Kashmir region. The earthquake, which left 3.3 million homeless, was one of the largest to hit in the past century, and has caused upwards of 5 billion dollars in damage.
So..What matters to you?

Hrm, heard four of the celeb ones, and two of the real news ones. I blame the fact that I listen to the radio on the way to work, but watch almost no TV (thereby missing the news).
Makes ya think though.

You're really not missing anything by missing the news though. They replay the same things over and over again plus some of the other trivial celebrity stuff listed above.
I'd just pick up a newspaper during lunch or something, honestly.

I don't know who any of those celebs are, save brad pitt and jesica simpson.
Murphy2006-05-05 04:26:59
I don't care about politicians or celebrities or what stupid and irresponsible thing the yanks are doing with their diggers, nor so I care about bird flu, and earthquakes are natures way of telling you, you breed to much.
In short, Great bedtime reading material

oh, and I don't know how much people believe what they just read, but the info on birdflu is not scientifically accurate.
ferlas2006-05-05 08:36:05
It can be deadly but only through prolonged contact with the birds. The health ministry pretty much said "no ones expected to die from it the only people who are at risk are the vets and the people dealing with the infected areas, and they have been immunised anyway."
Aiakon2006-05-05 09:17:50
A few people have died. Not many, and mainly in Turkey.
The worry was that the virus would mutate and pass from human to human, and we'd see another flu pandemic such as there was after the First World War... which, as we all know killed 70 million people worldwide.. and which made the death toll in the first world war fade into insignificance. In India alone, more people died of that particular strain of flu than had died on both sides during the war.

Well she IS getting too thin.
Acrune2006-05-06 00:37:50
Actually, I think she's gotten more normal sized. Last I heard she was anyways. Most of the info in what Athana wrote is outdated Well, all the ones that I remember happening are.
And what are you doing to those poor birds in that picture?

I originally thought she was doing the good ol' Italian tradition of chasing them around in circles, but apparently they're chasing her and she's trying to escape in that picture.
Athana2006-05-06 01:08:37
I was just trying to feed them! I wasn't expecting the things to jump into my hands so I was a little frightened at the time.
And that's actually some courtyard in Barcelona, Spain, not Piazza San Marco in Venice though I did visit there for a little too

Oh, figured it was venice, but couldn't think of what the adjective for venice was so wrote Italian.

who is Kevin Federline and Nick Lachey? The others I know because of movies
and I read news and I know about those things, and yet I'm MEXICAN. I know also about the current politics and problems in my country.
And AM Radio has been a curse and a blessing for me(No rock station, stupid radio doesn't pick FM)

That is an interesting and good post, whether it is completely accurate or not. I like the point your trying to make.
However, it encompasses only a tiny fraction of that point. Which is, bascially, that most of us are all so wrapped up in our lives that we don't care about the things in our world that truly matter.
But there are so many more things than only those, and so many of these everyone (including myself) mostly ignores everyday.
And even those who would voice this, do little in action about it.
(But don't mind me, I guess I'm a little bit of a pessimist)
