Okay, I think I'm gonna due this on Saturday, June 2nd, starting sometime between 3-5 PM EDT. This should give everybody from Europe and the West Coast the ability to participate. Remember, the submitters are under no obligation to attend. I just need commitments from the models.
I'll get the rules up tonight.
I'll get the rules up tonight.

Sorry I haven't written the rules yet--lot's of personal stuff going on...don't ask me how my week's been so far.
I should have them up tomorrow night.

Subj: Tully's Fashion Event--The Rules
Sorry for the delay in posting these rules. I've been pretty busy of
late.
TULLY'S QUEST FOR THE MOST FASHIONABLE BOYO
Date of the Event: 13th of Urlachmar, year 149
Location: To Be Determined
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
1) Ye must have skill in Tailoring to join up. Sorry, but for this prize
we need true tailors. A true fashion designer should have started in the
trenches.
2) Ye can submit up to three outfits for consideration. Here are the
rules for outfits.
a) An outfit is a collection of clothing items. At least 50% of the
items should be crafted by the tailor submitting them. Show me that ye
can sew before ye design!
An outfit should be designated as for male, female, or unisex. And be
serious--no bra's or skirts for men (even fatties), although a kilt is
okay, otherwise ye will get disqualified.
c) Outfits should be designed for all races as is the norm. There are 18
of us "little cousins" as Elcyrion would say, so don't submit designs
dedicated to one race.
d) Armour is expressly forbidden as being part of an outfit. Walking
around in a party dressed in Full Plate is not being one of high
fashion. THIS ALSO INCLUDES GREAT ROBES. Sorry to all who wear them but
robes are more uniform than posh. Remember, this is for general social
gatherings, not when ye are facing the damn astral-taint-squid-boyo when
he's about to eat Estarra and the world.
e) At least one item in the outfit should be embroidered with ye fashion
label--which can be a slogan, brand name, or motto. Fashion designers
need to have a proper label.
f) Ye do not have to (and should not) proof the clothes against the
elements or magic, or otherwise enchant them. This will not count for
the fashion. People who want to protect themselves will usually get
their outfits customized.
g) Ye can accessorize with jewelry. It will help a little bit in the
judgement but will never be a deciding factor. Just to clarify a
point--I mean no insult to the communes--but skyclad with 100 seperate
jewelry items is not an option. Remember, it's good modesty to cover up
ye FAMILY jewels.
h) Packs and belts can be included, but do not include scabbards,
pocketbelts, sacks, runebags, or frogges. Most people will be purchasing
these as needed for their sidearms.
i) At least one outfit should be for general everyday use, the more
pieces the better (that which can make you dressed warmly or normally).
The other two outfits can be based on a theme, such as nightwear,
swimwear, hunting outfits, etc.
3) Each outfit should be accompanied by a preserved letter or scroll,
describing the outfit in detail. This is what I will use to annouce each
outfit when it's displayed by the models, so ye should write it as ye
sales pitch, so to speak. . The outfit and letter
should be in its own sack.
4) Outfits should be submitted by mail to Tully. Make sure they are
submitted 6 months before the date of the event so I can prepare.
However, don't submit so early that some of ye items decay! Keep the
cloth decay factor in mind.
5) Desinger attendance is not required at the actual fashion show. I
know some of ye can be pretty busy. The top desingers will be listed in
the news.
MODEL GUIDELINES
1) Ye must be available to attend at the event at the specified time, of
course.
2) Ye must be good-looking and of nice physical stature. Doesn't matter
what race. Ye can be mortal, denzien or god.
3) Ye need to be willing to get naked and remove your own clothing and
jewelry. (Don't worry, I won't peek). That does mean ye will be without
armor and protection, so don't do this if ye think some assasin is gonna
bum rush the show. Ye should have as little items with ye as possible
when ye attend. Put ye items in a safe place and ye money in a bank
before ye come.
Penned by my hand on the 19th of Tzarin, in the year 147 CE.

Heh. You really did double post.

I just realized that I set the event for Memorial Day, not the Saturday before, so I extended it to next weekend.
I hate date and time conversions. I put the real date in an OOC sidebar just in case.

nobody wants me as a model
Unknown2006-05-24 01:00:50
I want you! (I just forgot who you are in game). Oh, Lowe.
Actually, been extremely busy so I'm not as "in game" except on the weekends now. I'll try to respond to you via msg soon.
My apologies. I'll send you a message when I can log in next.

And apparently I set the time for the past rather than the future. That's meant to be 6/10/2006, not 5/10/2006. I'll post an update when I get home.
Daxera2006-06-02 20:41:53
I really wish we could have more time for the fashion show. I've been swamped lately, and although I really want to submit I still need to design more. Not to mention try and encourage others in Celest to try out for it. Celest's tailors aren't so chipper.
Unknown2006-06-02 22:25:34
I might be forced to extend it. I've only received 2 submissions so far and they are both from Verithrax. I've heard from a few other people though. (I was hoping to have more so some models can practice.)

I so demand a cooking competition after this
I had one of those, that's where that chargrilled salmon recipe came from. Which was sent in by a non-cook, btw

NOOOO, let's go with my submissions.

I can make a dress out of books
Exarius2006-06-03 17:21:57
Technically, he's going to either have to go with the submissions he's got or postpone the deadline.
I for one got all caught up with cleaning the house all labor day weekend (dumped everything out on the lawn for three days of sunny-weather sorting), then with getting ready for my son's birthday party this weekend, and just now got back to looking at the rules while I was finally catching my breath.
The deadline for submitting entries has come and gone. And here I already sat down and gave one girl lessons in how to work the catwalk...
Having had too much experience throwing lavish parties with disappointing turnouts (aka SF/Fantasy conventions), may I suggest that you got a bit ahead of yourself in setting this up?
The way I'd proceed from here would be to postpone indefinitely, while talking directly with individual tailors until you get firm commitments from whatever you set as the minimum number of participants and outfits worth putting on the show with. There's simply no subsitute for direct, personal contacts when you're trying to find help getting a new project off the ground.
When you have in writing exactly what the outfits are going to be, then start talking individually to people who might be interested in being models. Since you won't have a firm date yet, make sure to establish a much larger pool of volunteers than you'll actually need. You might ask them for typical times available to help you make your final scheduling decision.
In the mean time, you can be working with the models and arranging a better venue (I could actually host at the Palace of the Dawn, now that I've recently left the Moondancers), until you feel you have enough models and alternate models (you'll have models cancel out on you, or just fail to show up, I promise) to get together at a single date and time, then announce when it will be, and make an open call for other participants.
In any event, if you do change the deadline, let me know, and I'll make my entries.

Oops. Misremembered the date.
Guess there's still a little time before the deadlone, technically, but I'm only taking a breather from my son's birthday party. Big day, so... Dunno. Will see if I get time to finish things up or not.

Exarius, I'm willing to accept submissions up to Friday evening, it's just gonna be hard to practice the modeling.
Let me think over things. Maybe you are right. The only problem right now is my ability to be in game is limited to weekends and I've had health issues, so I couldn't spend as much time interviewing people as I'd like.
AFAIK, you, Veonira, and Verithrax are the only people who've planned to submit, so it could be a bust. I'll make a decision tomorrow on what to do and post about it.

I do not want to sound negative, because in fact I really like this event, and cannot wait to see the outfits. But, Lusternia, as most MUDs tend to be, is rather small and you should consider a success that you even got 3 participants, with the relatively small number of tailors we have around. I mean, even wargames or freeforalls are hard to organise, and a lot of people like fighting more than sewing clothes. I really hope it wasn't like this, but...
By the way, if anyone needs more models, contact me in game. No, I am not kidding.

Daxera2006-06-03 21:11:15
I have planned to as well. There, you have...4 or 5. Alert the media...that it will be postponed.
Unknown2006-06-04 11:44:48
Yeah, I've postponed it. I'll think about maybe giving another real-world month to the due date or something, and I'll take Exarius' advice about some face-to-face RP first.
I discovered I DO need to get the outfits finalized at least a week in advance because coordinating fashion show timing can be problematic if I don't have everything planned out first.

I decided NOT to host the fashion show myself, because the time I can spend in-game is limited to x hours a week and I've been pretty busy right now. I can maybe spend at most 3-6 hours a week in game.
However, I still have the credits and gold allocated, so if somebody else wants to take over the role of organizing things, let me know and I'll be the "financial backer" or something like that.
