Nah, us Sicilians all have mob connections. Even if you don't know it, you do.
"Wow, that's great, you can slam dunk.. no.. I can't do that, but I can have someone break your kneecaps!"

Alright. I'm finishing up a course in genetics. Bring on the evidence.
Race is a defining factor, genetically, in several areas.
1) Founder mutations. Certain aberrant adaptations, such as sickle cells or iron chromatosis, show up in certain 'races' (human sub-sub-species) because of the differing environments they lived in.
2) Adaptations. You will find very few native Scotsman with epicanthic folds. Conversely, you have to look around quite a bit to find someone with an epicanthic fold in, say, Peking.
There IS a genetic basis to 'race'. However, it is not based on skin color, but the acquired genetic adaptations of someone's ancestors. Take me for example; I come from essentially western european stock, with some amerindian blood. I have adaptations that let me digest lactose, absorb iron effectively, but I don't have an epicanthic fold or sickle cells in my blood. On the other hand, take someone who's the child of two mulattos, and turned out looking white. Sure, they might technically be 'white' - even 50% european - but they have sickle cells, an adaptation to malaria-rich environments, and they have one unique to Cameroon.
Thank you. I needed to get that off my back.

Which is also why everyone back then had the life span of the average house cat, as alcohol dehydrates you, whereas water hydrates you.

Actually, it's a common misconception. Average lifespan during the Middle Ages was so low because a lot of very young children used to die often. As soon as you reached the age of 12 or so, you had a life expectancy only slightly lower than you have today.
Daganev2006-05-25 01:20:29
I don't know about the middle ages, but in the Talmud(i.e. 200 CE), it says your only old once you hit 70.
40 = mature 50 = wise 60 = sage 70 = old 80 = blessed.
edit: Figured I should quote the actual sorce incase I was wrong... I was a bit.. it says the following:
At age 5, one studies Bible.
At ten, the Mishna.
At thirteen, one is responsible for the mitzvoth.
At fifteen, one studies Talmud.
At eighteen, one is ready for marriage.
At twenty, one begins a career.
At thirty, one is at the height of one's powers.
At forty, one achieves understanding .
At fifty, one is prepared to give wise counsel .
At sixty, one is given the deference of seniority.
At seventy, one is considered a sage.
Eighty is the age of heroic strength.

So I'm still an immature little kid!
Now tell me something I didn't know yet.
Jokes aside, Daganev's post just adds truth to this statement. Once you are no longer a small child, a chance of you living up to a quite venerable age was rather good in the years that have passed. Sure, they had that filth and disease everywhere, but on the other hand we have pollution and toxins nowadays. And the "natural selection" that took place in the first 6 or so years of your life ensured that only strong and tough kids survived. Or very lucky ones.

I worded what I was trying to say wrongly, but my point was that race is a geographic development, so to speak.

Just because I know things, doesn't mean that I am him. It is easy to over hear mistells, or rumors, Diamante. You should know that from you being Diamante and Diamondais and how many mistells you all got.

Sano definitely pulled this one all the time. New characters that "knew" things they shouldn't know because of "rumours". You're really not helping yourself here.
