Well yeah, we all know what they are OOC , but what are they IC?
Unknown2006-05-17 19:41:02
Helpers to the Gods. They make new rooms and stuff like that
Unknown2006-05-17 19:43:54
wait, what are ephemerals?
Richter2006-05-17 19:47:32
He asked what they are IC. tongue.gif Building rooms is OOC.

Anyway, they're just other immortals, whose beginning or history was never explained. They provide occasional RP support when they're not shining Divine boots, such as the recent quoted slippers event.

They're mysterious immortals who occasionally pop in and interact with us, like Q from Star Trek. smile.gif

According to dictionary.com... and HELP 11.23 They are short lived immortals.

Support staff, made of former mortal players. They build stuff, code, etc.
Daganev2006-05-17 19:50:17
gods in training.

Esh, what a paradox.

According to what I've been told IC, the Ephemerals are helpers to the Elders, never really meant to interact with mortals, and rarely seen save by the Councils... or perhaps just Glomdoring's council. Lady Shayle has closer ties to the Divine than any I've seen.

The Ephemerals apparently aren't meant to take part in the comings and goings of the Basin, but... well, the one I've met isn't very good at that. Not that I'm complaining at all. smile.gif

IC, Ephemerals are kind of like Elder God pets. Smaller, weaker, furrier, and kept out of sight of company (most of the time).

Heh, I like that description. Yes, all that is actually known about Ephemerals is that they're the servants of the Elder Gods. How they come into existence and why they seem to disappear randomly isn't explained, and likely never will be.
Jack2006-05-17 22:29:58
You could explain them away by saying occasionally one of the poor buggers annoys Fain, and he retaliates by ripping their heads off and peeing in the neck cavity.

See, I'd do that if I was all-powerful and had monkey-bitches. wub.gif

I am not furry! oldie.gif

Since somebody mentioned Q, one of you darn ephemerals please turn into a Trickster deity. That's one Archetype we need!
Estarra2006-05-17 23:51:13
In the divine tongue, "ephemeral" means "crunchy snack".
