I've thought of it, but I don't really know enough about it... I know in Achaea, there really isn't any way to advance besides combat. How can one advance oneself here without going bashing? That would certainly be a nice change from the ordinary....
Well, what do you mean by "advance"? If you mean in levels, then yes, bashing is the best way, with influencing ultimately being inferior. But if you mean advance as in, being famous and sucessful... have a decent personality, get to know a huge number of people, make sure people who don't even know you know -about- you, work on something like a store, or being a master something. I'd say my character is sucessful, and I haven't bashed since I hit level 80 (which isn't incredibly hard).
Selverad2006-05-18 22:31:31
I meant advance in levels, actually. My characters tend to be rather unambitious. Transing a single skill still seems like an incredible feat to me.

Influencing and questing are vastly superior prior to level 70, though yes, bashing does become the absolute best. Sadly, the best quest for leveling is Celestian

I want to see a place where high-level influencing is feasible, and where one can become a demigod from influencing. Right now, you can perfect your body, but what about your mind?
Hazar2006-05-18 22:48:00
Some of the aetherbubbles are supposed to be good for influencing.
Richter2006-05-18 23:05:34
Haven't been to one yet, hard to get a crew together.

Ok, making a Mugwump Geomancer for the sheer magical artillery aspect. I might have trouble with the RP aspect of playing as a frog... but I'd probably struggle more playing as a Viscanti. Looked at other races, but none of the ones acceptable in Magnagora have the Intelligence needed to be a decent mage... Unless you count Humans, which I'd almost rather not...
But since I can't seem to connect to Lusternia at the moment I shall continue to ponder.
EDIT: Hm. I could specialize a Viscanti... It's a bit more tanky than a Mugwump, so I won't be so fragile... But casting speed is vastly reduced. So. Survivability, or attack speed?

Everyone claims that Viscanti, specialized or otherwise, are vastly sub-par to many other races, especially mugwump. Why? Sip penalty.
Selverad2006-05-20 23:17:10
That makes sense.... So Mugwump really is the best for that type?
Or maybe instead I could make a Glom support druid. Faeling or Elfen. Hmm.

Indeed, I've seen Elryn (mid-high level faeling trans-influencer) have some problems with influencing some of the highest things in candy land. Pretty much everything is high-lvl influencing there.
Edit:Oh, and faeling is a great choise for a geomancer tele-mage high mana/ego equates into high attack/life for that class. Though, being a faeling in mag is going to have some severe downsides you might not want to have to deal with, if you wish to concentrate on hunting most of the time.
Selverad2006-05-21 01:59:54
If I was a Faeling, it would probably be in Glom just for the specialization. But I'm just trying to get a feel for everything before I go and create an alternate. I don't want to make something not worth using and wind up abandoning it.

The point was, Faelings make great psionics, and Gloms can't be psionics.
Selverad2006-05-21 02:24:08
They can't? Oh, no, they can't... But they -can- be Dreamweavers... how are they at that? I can't imagine they would make tremendous hunters.... Or maybe a Runeslinger? But they're mainly PvP based, right?

For dreamweaving, it's a tossup. Faeling or Furrikin. Faelings have tons of ego. Furrikin have absurd magic defence. The only attacks that you can use against a dreamweaver are 100% magic, I believe (Violet and Kether, the ones anyone can use, are at least. Not sure about the psionic/dreamweaving attack skills). Furrikin dreamweavers are known to be ridiculously annoying since they are difficult (more like impossible) to kill.
Faeling dreamweavers are great too - Elryn once even killed Daevos purely in dreamform.
Selverad2006-05-21 02:41:44
Ok.... So, if they're a tossup for PvP Dreamweaving, how about PvE? Or Runes?

Glomdoring faeling blacktalon are by far the best runeslingers in the game. High int for druid stuff, absurdly fast balance for runeslinging. Can't get much better than that.
Selverad2006-05-21 03:10:19
But what is Runeslinging good for? Can you hunt at all with it? I like the idea... more than the typical magic-user, Mugwump super artillery idea, (almost too much like an Achaean Grook Apostate, which I did try, and lacked.... interest. Only one attack, and it demolished almost everything.)

Most of those cases were from the victim's lack of knowledge of defence, rather than the attacker's skill... to be fair.

(And Daevos was probably afk, I can't remember)
Hazar2006-05-21 03:20:25
One simple thing can make any faeling, especially shadow faelings, into great hunters.
Sparkleberry.
