While the Monkey Island series is more a Puzzle/Adventure, I think it's the closest I've come to actually playing, and enjoying, and American RPG. I do own Morrowind with both it's expansions... but it's far from enjoyable during an honest play through. Though it is nice to have when I feel the need to annihilate an entire civilization.

Oh, cool, never knew that. Wonder if it was released in England.

It was released for GBA, I think.
Edit: Yep. Just searched Gamestop and found it.
and I own it too. It's pretty good, considering it is for gba...
I think it's the only gba game to have voice-overs (kind of), unless you count those stupid pokemon noises...

What I want to know is whether the dejap team actually did the little voices for Arche et al. when they translated the ROM or if they actually say their stuffs in English in the Japanese version.
Mirk2006-05-23 02:43:58
I'd hazard a guess that the voices for the english version were different than in the Japanese version, but I don't know.
Out of curiousity, has anyone ever played Beyond Good and Evil? I've heard it was good, and have been planning on finding a used version of it...

Tales series are really good and they all connect to each other which is neat, outside the summon spirits. Though Phantasia, if you got past the final puzzle in the Volt cavern, I salute you for doing the stupid thing.
The older version was funnier though with very adult themes (The boat trip with Arche is great).
Final Fantasy games can be really good. Baten Kaitos wasnt too good for voices, I understand why they did it but it was irritating. Good story line though, and the characters are interesting.

DeJap actually had people send in their voice samples and chose people for each part.
... I remember because I used to visit their website while the game was still in progress.

Wow, that's awesome. That was one of the parts I really liked about the game actually. The battle system was a little annoying sometimes but that little effort stood out.
Unknown2006-05-23 05:16:48
Yeah, I think one of the people who worked on DeJap's projects is doing video games with some company now. It really makes me wish I got into things like that early in my life.
Edit: Actually, I think Tomato went to FUNimation as a translator. I'm not sure about the others.

I only saw it (live though), it looked really nice. You were taking pictures with a camera! I mean, the hot green chick was.
It's not really an RPG I think.

I haven't finished it yet, but I really love Tales of Symphonia. It took me a while to get used to the battle style, but after a while it was fun.
My favorite RPG is, and always will be, Chrono Cross. I know people say it's a terrible game, but I think a lot of that stems from the fact that it's not a good sequel. But it has the best music of any game, and it's so perdy.
I also always loved FFX. Well, ignoring the fact Yuna was going to cry at any minute.

I think Xenogears had a better soundtrack personally. They were done by the same artist (Yasunori Mitsuda), but he wasn't rushed as much on Xenogears as he was for Chrono Cross. Exactly half of the music for Chrono Cross was done in a last minute rush, and the other half he had the time to actually do wonderfully
EDIT: Oh, and my dislike of Chrono Cross stemmed from the character collecting thing being TERRIBLY done, 99% of the characters being completely flat and uninteresting (there was exactly ONE complete/solid character in that game by my reckoning), and the combat system leaving a lot to be desired. The music and plot were good though

She was the only character I found whos voice wasnt right for the character
"I (pause) am (pause) sorry." seemed to be how she always spoke. Finish Symphonia, endings good.

Well, school's out for me and as soon as I have time to grab my license (assuming I'll pass), I'm sneaking over to GameStop for some used games. I really only plan on getting FF Tactics and FF7, but if anyone else has some cost-friendly suggestions for my long summer I'm open. Don't really feel like sifting through this thread.
Marcalo2006-05-24 18:26:57
legend of dragoon awsome game if you like FF7 you will like it. Arc the lad, another good rpg.

Yuna wasn't that bad. Tidus... eesh. I'm scarred for life from that "laughing" scene.

Yes. It's good. It has one failing: like many puzzle-adventure games, if you don't get how to do something, it can take you a long time to do so.

I have to say, that scene was fairly terrifying.

This is how it should've happened.
I spent a long time on this...
(He's about to stab him but I didn't want to draw over Tidus's clothes which I spent a long time on.)
EDIT: Fixed a couple errors and made him actually stabbing him.
