Fanatic = person who has completely surrendered all personal judgement and responsibility to the emotional panacea of blind obedience.

In case you hadn't noticed, that's the sort of idiocy that carried Hitler into power and got George W. re-elected. It's the sort of idiocy that burns down churches because the congregation has the wrong color of skin, and blows up buses full of innocent children.

You need to get that sort of idiocy out of your system in a role-play environment, go for it. Just leave a place in Lusternia for those of us who already know what a losing game it is. (*goes off muttering darkly*)

Anyways, I don't see anything wrong with being a fanatic in-game, as long as OOCly you recognize that fact. IRL, I wouldn't want to live in a place like Glomdoring or Celest, but in a game world... why not? And Glomdoring is the only organization I know of that doesn't practice racism as a result of fanaticism (evil viscanti, or evil elfen/merians!), which seems to imply that every single organization has its moments.

But, once again, it's a game, a non-real environment that gives us some entertainment-- and most of us are mature enough to understand that it doesn't get translated into real-life.

That's you.

Personally if I see a red and purple Viscanti walking around Barcelona trying to taint everything or giving his demons a walk I am going to yell and call the police.

All the orgs in lusternia are fanatical about something, that's one of the reasons for me to lose interest in the game.

And yet, should you see a red and purple Viscanti walking their cute little poodle or tending to their garden, I would hope you would not go calling the police on them.

Richter used to hate that, he never "got with the program". I always found it to be a nice bit of conflict RP, he lived in a place he helped start, yet hates it for what it is (as well as the lemming-ness). MMmm, roleplaying.

And Exarius, I personally find killing people to be rather abhorrent, but I try my hardest to suck the life out of people in Lusternia! You don't have to worry, I'm not a murderer in real life, and I have suprisingly little in common with Hitler.

Heh, I missed this post. Did you really just compare organizational pride to nazism? I'm not seeing the connection between showing your fidelity to something you believe in or take pride in to being a fanatic... I guess that makes every person who does sync'd shouting during sports events budding Hitler supporters, too. Guess he's still got a lot of sway...

The Nazis are tame compared to Magnagora. We haven't attained the same body count, but we'd certainly be willing to, and unleash any number of terrible nightmare entities upon the world in the meantime. No doubt the Paladins or another 'good' group would be just as willing to match them as well, were it for the good of the light.

What I'm saying is, Lusternia is a world filled with fanatical sects and horrible, twisted people willing to do anything to attain their ends, because their ends are always the ultimate good and any who stand in their way are the ultimate evil. I imagine that's what the creators had in mind, with such heavy emphasis on racism and organizational conflict.

It heavy amounts of conflict and tension aren't your thing, Exarius, go find some new haven for your masterful RP, where you can mudsex with other catpeople without any threatening elements that encourage abhorrent behavior such as adaptation or creativity.

If only a person could wrap that intellect into something bonable. Sigh. ;(

That right there is my favorite part of Glomdoring. The idiots know they don't have an equal voice, and the nonsense goes away when a "polite suggestion" crosses the aethers. Eventually, the people who would have turned into issues in, say, Celest, actually turn out to be very productive additions to the commune. In the end, it's a better deal for the individual and the organization alike.
