What I'm saying is, Lusternia is a world filled with fanatical sects and horrible, twisted people willing to do anything to attain their ends, because their ends are always the ultimate good and any who stand in their way are the ultimate evil. I imagine that's what the creators had in mind, with such heavy emphasis on racism and organizational conflict.

Yes, but Exarius is right.
Simplistic fanatacism kills this. Kills creativity.
Turns the game into my team vs yours... am I wearing the red shirt or the blue...

You need to watch out for that when you start leading idealistic crusades.
Its people having their own interpretations, variations on philosophy that make things interesting from a role-playing perspective.

However, having said that, I must say that I think Exarius was severely over-reacting to the idea of a few people showing some community pride over the aether. smile.gif

Those that are poor RPers give fanatacism a bad rep, as they do any other role they try to take on. Sure, "i am rite u r rong fuk u ooc haha ur mom" is terrible, and there's plenty of that (though not -quite- as exaagerated), but there's also numerous immature buffoons in every role. Don't let that ruin it for you. An intelligent player can make a fanatic very interesting, and as flat as they may appear on the surface, there is more to explore there than one might think. Watching a fanatic being forced to cooperate with those he or she so wholely detests is interesting, to say the least, and even an uninspired fanatic is better than the listless 'I don't care' attitudes that many others adopt.

Celest is a religious community (two thirds of it anyway). In my oppinion, we are supposed to be fanatics. I mean, come on, we can brand people as heretics and call down holy inquisition on them! I like playing that kind of character, even though I am in no way religious, as an OOC person. That's what RP is. Of course, there will always be people who won't want to wear neither the red nor the blue shirt. But that's up to each one of us, right? Who can tell us, "Hey, don't show patriotism, because that other guy showing it is enough!" ??

Personally, I very much prefer fanatics to the snuggly "omg let's all be friends and snuggle and make teaparties with Lis and Vira in the Monolith!". I think conflict adds more to make a mud into something different than a chatroom where you also kill stuff when there's nobody to chat.
I just don't aprove of the level of conflict in Lusternia, but still, Glomdoring having a very strict role for their organization since the start is way better than Celest starts for example wich were way more confused, cloudy and changed every two days depending on wich supernal they were looking at.

I think it's a 'you're trapped in a misguided city of fools and fanatics, I want to show you the truth' kind of friendship. Like ours without the random fighting. I think. chin.gif

Hey, I never said I was a fanatic fanatic. I'm fanatic in my beliefs, but balanced in my actions. Blah blah, it's hard to explain tongue.gif

Well said.

What needs to be remembered though is that when fanatics reach positions of powers, they might put into place policies that force others role-play into the same mold...

Effectively forcing your role-playing approach on others. It is at this point that a world full of fanatics becomes worse that a world full of free-thinkers.

Either extreme would be boring... lets not try to swing things too far one way or the other.

I don't see the greeting in Glomdoring any different than say a group of people standing up to sing their national anthem before a sportsgame.

Showing pride in your nation is something that happens all over the place and is not really fanatical. Everyone should believe that "my tribe is better than your tribe."

The problem in a text game is that there can be no group voice, so everyone has to say it individually and that does make it spammy, but there is certainly nothing wrong with it and I am glad to see they have "national pride" like that.

Ah 'tis but the first step down the slippery slide to fanatic despotism...
