I wasn't sure where to put this, but here goes.
After a certain date, like around October of last year, changes in elected guild officials stopped showing up. At least, they stopped showing up on the Celestine newsboard. Likewise, they stop showing up on the Politics newsboard. I was wondering why.
A peculiarity does exist though. For some reason, changes in the Ur'Guard leadership still show up in Politics. What the heck?

The ur'Guard has an apostrophe, which sometimes means that changes to other guilds don't change the way it works. (And sometimes you can't see their guildnovices scroll. *coughs*)
Razenth2006-05-31 05:34:54
That makes a shockingly large amount of sense, as ridiculous as it sounds...

And to further explain the weird bug, when one of those automated posts SHOULD appear, if you NSTAT, you see that there is a new post. You can't read it though, and if you use RN, it gets marked as read. If a new post appears in that board, it replaces the "phantom" post, causing most people not to ever notice them.
So for instance, if there are 10,000 posts in the Moondancers newsboard and 100 in the Politics newsboard, when a new Moondancer Champion is elected, NSTAT will show 10000/10001 and 100/101 for the two boards. READNEWS MOONDANCERS 10001 will give the "this article does not exist" message, but then NSTAT will show 10001/10001 for Moondancers. RN will give the "There are no new posts to read" message, and NSTAT will then show 101/101 in Politics. If another post is made in the Politics board, then it will be numbered as 101.
This has been going on for quite some time.

Tsuki's election to GM felt like one of the first it happened to. First we noticed, at least. Moondancers broke it!

Well this sucks. I need to know when my guild leadership changes!
Unknown2006-05-31 22:59:50
The Fates are just arguing over whether or not the changes happened or not.
Use that as your IC explanation.

So that explains why I kept seeing phantom newposts that couldn't be read.. And I thought it was some sort of glitch or something.

Yeah so do I. I didn't notice that Siphelus took over Vesar's job as Guild Master for awhile.

Reading "Help Celestines" solves your problem there.

Ya, whenever there's a phantom post I do a scan of all the ghelp files to find out.
Thing is, sometimes politics updates don't even get THAT much.

I mean, I actually need to know when it changes, not who it is. Like, when Lyren replaced Zeit or what not as our Guildmaster (11/24/2004 at 19:29).

Hmmm... sounds like some weird coding mishap. Perhaps having to do with how numbers roll over or something?
