Aetherships

I'm pondering the how I want to spec my aethership when I convert the manse, and need some opinions.

A 2 room ship is RIDICULOUSLY fast, and a 12 room one is pretty slow, so how fast is a 4 room ship?

How fast are your ships, and how many rooms roughly does a speed upgrade reduce the moving delay by?

Thanks in advance

a 6 room ship (pilot, empath, 3 turret, collector) is still faster then any creature out there and was fast enough for me.

Well, I just tested my 53 room ship with a wheel diamonut (Avaerin) and my 1 room ship without one (Rapture).

Avaerin:
Average movement time through red dimensional shifts = 1.003 seconds (lowest 0.984 seconds)
Average movement time through purple aether flux = 0.779 seconds (lowest 0.735 seconds)

Rapture:
Average movement time through red dimensional shifts = 0.565 seconds (lowest 0.516 seconds)
Average movement time through purple aether flux = 0.558 seconds (lowest 0.500 seconds)

You steer Qing Yuan to the east.
Lurching through dimensional shifts.
Qing Yuan floats here in astral.
Celest is to the west.
Magnagora is to the southeast.
Aetherplex is to the west.

I think that can tell you more than I can make of it. Mine has five rooms, an energy collector and just me

My 12 room ship runs decent, can outrun most things, while my 105 room ship is pretty slow.
Hazar2006-06-12 21:35:24
Four lets me outrun anything I need to.
Unknown2006-06-12 23:45:15
Incidentally, my 53 room ship can outrun creatures without too much trouble, unless I lag.
Sylphas2006-06-13 00:48:29
That's with a wheel, though, right?
Unknown2006-06-13 02:14:28
Aye, with a wheel.
Unknown2006-06-13 03:06:42
My 8-room, wheel-less ship outruns anything.

Well, as long as I move in a straight line. Can't be arsed to make proper keybindings for steering.
Caffrey2006-06-14 23:23:05
The 1 room Felix, no wheel.

Tested on Purple - Drifting upon the aether flux.

13 room diagonal line, manual (numpad) piloting
Start 00:09:32:890
Finish 00:09:36:468
0.275 seconds per square

15 rooms straight line, manual (numpad) piloting
Start 00:09:40:109
Finish 00:09:43:984
0.258 seconds per square.

Do you all have systems for aetherspace navigation? I've made aliases for all the directions, but that's it. Is there a better way?
Unknown2006-06-15 01:00:33
Aye, I just made a macro fro the numpad much like regular movement then made two buttons that switches my regular movement off and my aethership movement on, and vice versa.

I have a set of macros on the numpad that just does "@movetype direction", and then macros to switch @movetype to swim, burrow, sprint, or null. Aethership would fit in nicely.

Well, I did, at least, until I switched to Lyntin. zMUD doesn't run on Cedega or Wine, from what I hear. sad.gif

I move manually except in aetherspace, where I have my keypad set for every direction. Also have aliases for every commander action.
Ildaudid2006-06-15 20:13:44
I added in a pilot mode... it turns it on when I launch and off when I land. so when @piloton=1 my num pad keys pilot steer, when I land it shuts off and I am back to normal. I had to do it that way since I have my numpad all filled up with other stuff when on solid ground.

I have a system to automatically fly me to any place I've been before. It's really nice. It sets my dock when I dock at a place based on the name of the dock, and loads up a list of destinations I know how to get to from that dock. I can do DESTLIST for the list, or DESTLISTALL for a list of every dock and where I can get to from that dock. Then I just TRAVELTO one of those locations.

I also have the aetherspace coordinates in my prompt, a well as any damage taken since the last prompt.

I have a comm window that I can toggle to hold all my communications, which are a pain to keep track of otherwise due to aetherspace spam. I also tried to make a map window that would move the map out of the main window, but in most cases, I move too fast for that to work.

I also, of course, have the numpad set to move the ship, num5 being ship look, num . being ship status, num * being transverse, num + being launch, and num - being dock.

All of this is set up when I lock into a pilor module. When I lock into a turret, it turns on my autofire aliases and sets the numpad to various fire aliases, like fire, target next target in room, etc.

I also have plans for a maneuver system to move me N spaces in a line in Y direction, or to fly in circles around a point N spaces in Y direction, etc. Never finished it because that's when I stopped caring about Lusty dry.gif

I'm adding SKILLCHOICE SELECT COMMANDER to my start script now dry.gif Bah for it not being complete sad.gif

Are these the 'official' coordinates or a custom system based off your own maps? If official.. how do you get them?
