Nessa needs to be run over with a truck. Or contested at least. She was a bad admin, and while that log is my only experience with her as GM, I'm guessing she's utterly abominable.

Everything else points us towards ambiguity. Then there's the crappy pre-wyrd remnants that Moonies use to justify old-fashioned 'they're tainted' rp.
No, we use PLENTY of other facts to justify our idea that you're Tainted, I don't think I've even seen these stupid remnant messages (or if I have I don't remember them). Don't kid yourself.
EDIT: Also, Sipelus, that was one damn awesome rant.

I'm sick of those foresty ninnies going around arguing about that instead of asking the people who know about the Taint. And since I'm one of those people, let me answer. The wyrd is not the Taint because the Taint doesn't want to be associated with Glomdoring.

I love how we argue about it instead of just saying "You know what, we don't really care. Whatever it is, we don't like it. It could be an integral part of nature, and we still wouldn't like it. So it has to go."

I hate that we're being forced into that. Oh no, not purple! Our commune's mission in life is to eradicate the forbidden colour!

I'd hope that, by this point, we'd hate them even if they became just like us. Not many real people are driven by pure ideal, or can last on that. Characters that are all based on that seem very flat to me. But utter hatred passed down through generations lasts a long time, and doesn't care about much. It doesn't matter if they're tainted or not. If the Gods came down to Avechna and shouted for the whole world, every Seren god among them, that Glomdoring is wonderful, no longer tainted, and gave ample proof, would we suddenly love the Wyrd? No, we wouldn't.
People are too caught up in the buzzwords. Taint or not-taint. Good or evil. Natural or unnatural. As a person, and, hopefully, as a character, things shouldn't be quite that simple. I mean, if a politician I hate suddenly switches to a new party, maybe goes independent, that doesn't mean I suddenly start liking them, and vice-versa.

They -are- just like us. And while pure RP-ers are no doubt excited by the chance to have no actual reason other than history to combat an organization, I find it really awful. Celest I don't mind being unreasonable about, there's enough current differences to at least justify a grudge being continued. Glomdoring... bleh. I hate it. It is the worst thing about Lusternia at the moment.
Sylphas2006-06-21 02:56:53
No, they still have the Wyrd. That should be plenty, whatever it may be.
The more mechanics that seperate us, the more the focus is entirely on those mechanics, and things get repetitive and flat and boring. I hate "They are bad because of, end of story."

Like... the concept behind the taint?
I totally disagree. I like that the taint actually means something, its not just a word. Magnagora has the scope to very convincingly argue that things are improved when tainted, and Celest has the scope to argue the change is bad. It doesn't mean that tainted Magnagora is identical to untainted Celest, and they just have historical differences between them... there is a very clear distinction in beliefs, powers, approach and effect.

The Taint isn't bad because of Mechanics. Its bad because everyone has decided it is.
Serenwilde is selfish.
Celest wants revenge.
Glomdoring is introverted.
Magnagora just wants to help everyone improve
Yes, its been a very militaristic 'rawr!' sort of state, but the divine-written help file, as well as the properties of the leading Demon Lord, hint that it wasn't "destined" to be. Beauty and cunning are pillars of Magnagoran society.
The Taint is bad because people link it to Kethuru. Mechanics say that has nothing of Kethuru in it. Players don't care, and it became the "Evil" in the world, when it could have been easily been reversed. Celest is the one who released Kethuru, and all they want is revenge and to bring everyone into the Light. They are also two-faced. "Yes, its all about compassion.. but the slaughter of those unable to see the Light is a high form of love!" If Deavos, Valek, and all the others who made Magnagora the elite military force it is had been in Celest, I assure you that Celest would be the evil Empire and Magnagora would be the innocents simply trying to survive--they had no choice in their creation, and they were cursed with strength and insight that others fear, when all they want to do is teach and enlighten the world to the benefits of this new aspect of life.
And that would have been so much more fun, in my opinion
Unknown2006-06-21 03:26:24
I didn't say it was evil at all. In fact, I think evil has very little to do with Magnagora. Nor do I think Magnagora is militaristic.
But they DON'T have the same outlook as Celest, they don't believe in the same virtues, they don't use the same powers and assume they play the same role, they don't copy Celest's stance to other nations, and they don't (usually) pretend that the taint is cosmetic.

That's exactly what I said. Celest has the scope to view the taint as bad, Magnagora can view it as good. That doesn't mean the taint has no effect on anything, and is only in their minds.
