Yeah, that's a bit much. Especially since Bud Light sucks.

I'm pissed at WoW at the moment. Too many quests which I can't do without a group, devoiding me of any satisfaction of finishing them. Asking your guildmates for a group is humiliating enough for instances, I do not have to noob myself further by requiring help for outdoor quests.

Humiliatng to ask for a group for things that were designed for a group, in a multiplayer game? I think you're missing the entire point of having a guild.

Yes, it is.
Asking for help = too inept to do it yourself = naab. Some things you can't do yourself - instances are an example. Others, you can.
As for outdoor quests, EVERY quest which has three or less people as recommended (exception: the ones when you face enemies immune to any form of crowd control, and you have no NPC backup) is soloable. Recommended in this case simply means "2 or 3 noobs can do it, or 1 good player".
For me, a multiplayer game... no. ANY game (video or not) is a test of skill. Good performance proves your skills, bad performance proves your noobishness and is nothing but frustrating. Why waste time on something that is frustrating?
My first, and last, time I went skiing, I wasn't even able to force myself to turn. I do realise that you can't expect a novice ski-er to do olympic-class slaloms, but that was simply pathetic, a waste of time. And so, I shall never ski again in my life.
This is just an example, to make understanding my (quite unusual) point of view easier.

Wow... you prolly miss out on a lot of fun by giving up just cause you don't excell the first time you try something.
Unknown2007-07-01 21:25:58
Not really. Possible fun/satisfaction that would come after reaching reasonable skill in the activity wouldn't be enough to compensate for frustration and humiliation of the "total noob" period.
If the total noob period would ever be over, that is. Which I doubt. From my experience, the situations when you suck at something at first but overcome the weakness to become a SUPER CHAMPION happen only in optimistic tales.
Some might think this is a sad point of view. It isn't, and I'm able to lead a normal and reasonably happy life. It just saves me time and dignity from trying things that I have no talent at.

QFT.
There are many, many things at which I'll never excel in any meaningful way. I won't compete in the winter Olympics, for example, just because I happen to take up ice-skating. Not allowing myself the opportunity to try them, to enjoy them, and to better myself would just be ridiculous, though. "Ah, well. I'll never be a gourmet chef- looks like it's take-out for me for the rest of my life!" Never mind, of course, that I do enjoy cooking dinner for friends and experimenting with new tastes. A person can't reasonably be expected to do anything at a professional/expert level after exerting only the most minimal effort to succeed, and you're only short-changing yourself by falling into the trap of mediocrity. It seems that your "dignity" (read: pride) is getting in the way of a lot of valuable experiences, but that's your choice.
If you're honestly happy that way, then, by all means, continue. You'll be taking up less room when the rest of us want to have fun.
Unknown2007-07-01 21:46:43
You misinterpreted me here. I do not expect a novice at... anything, to act like an expert from the start, or after exerting minimal effort. A novice, however, is expected to succeed at novice-grade tasks (that sounds horribly MMORPG-like, but I find no better terms). Using your cooking examples, someone who makes their first meal can pursue this culinary path if they're able to create simple meals. If the first thing they did was to burn boiled water, resulting in a kitchen catastrophe, means they have absolutely no talent here and should give up - in my belief.
Also I do not "fall into a trap of mediocrity". There are things I found myself talented at, these I pursue and hope to one day become an expert at.
Well, I believe that's it from me on this topic.

There is a girl I know who is obsessed with Bud Light. Nearly all of her pictures on facebook are of her drinking, her AIM buddy icon is Bud Light, and she has a Bud Light sticker on her cell phone. Its depressing.
That's kind of like those people who are obsessed over a brand of car - you know, like Ferrari owners who have Ferrari-branded clothing and wear it all the time.
Except, it's more like owning a Fiat and constantly wearing Fiat-branded clothing - rather pathetic.

Dear ADF:
If I "surpass" your physical and educational requirements by as much as you people were telling me, and aced your testing and medical, why can't you just tell me the real reason you don't want me rather than "You are not people orientated enough to suit the uniquely team orientated nature of the ADF." when I picked a job that'd have me working ALONE 95% OF THE FSCKING TIME? YARGH! Invite me toa pply when my mindset has changed is just insult to injury.

Sorry Cuber, I got to work before I realized how harsh I might have sounded, didn't mean it that way. The recommended for X people quests are labeled in a totally inconsistant fashion. I've soloed things that were recommended for three people, since the mob could be snared, and others that are solo quests I've needed a group for. It's not really time to feel like a noob until you start wiping your groups, or have absolutely no clue what you can and can't do. Honestly, if someone is willing to listen to directions and ask for help, I consider them a far better player than someone who gets us all killed because he doesn't have a clue and doesn't think to ask.

My work schedule this week: Thursday, 12a-8a. Friday, 12p-8p. Doesn't seem so bad, right? What's missing from that is the fact that all 12a-8a shifts are actually counted as being at night, not in the morning. This means that 12a-8a Thursday night is actually Friday morning. So it comes out to: Friday, 12a-8a & 12p-8p.
Not only am I apparently working 16 hours that day, I'm on with three other people working 8a-4p, when we only ever need two per shift, and then I overlap for the last four hours with 4p-12a, which also has two people scheduled already. So there's absolutely no reason for me to work that second shift.
I'm talking to my boss tomorrow, and if not a mistake, I'm going to suddenly get AIDS or something at the end of my "Thursday" shift, or maybe start suffering acute pain in the ass or something. Either way I'm not coming to work again that day, I'm really not in the mood for that bull .

You're sure the Thursday entry isn't for Wednesday night/Thursday morning?

I used to think that. But then I came in one night and they asked me why I came in on my day off.

Hmph, those kind should be beaten, hanged and to death.
Makes me wish the Death Note is real enough for me to right her name and send her to a gruesome death.
