They use bizarre parts that take weeks to replace. For some reason our pentium 4 only has a 300W power supply. The guy we brought to fix the problems we were having said it needs about 400W-450W, and he brought a standard 550W one, but it didn't fit because Dell has some of the connectors in a different place to standard parts. So now it'll take ages to get a power supply that works and doesn't have to overheat itself, and there's no guarantee of even that.

What's wrong with a Dell? My computer nerd cousin was referring me to get one of their Notebooks while I was looking for my laptop.
All my experience with Dells is: Computers that die years before their time. For various reasons. See above for one.

Here's my rant... the fact that I was supposed to get $1700 back in Federal taxes, part of which was going to be a sizable credit purchase. However, yesterday I recieved a letter stating that instead of a refund, my refund was applied to some debt I occurred in the military about 5 years ago
the IRS.. them all!!

Ignoring my own negative personal experiences, my dad worked as a Dell service technician guy for a while. He didn't mind it, but the crap that went wrong with them... You'd think they'd be reliable with how much they overcharge you, but I guess not.
Just because your cousin is a "computer nerd" doesn't mean he knew what he was talking about. Unless you were planning on upgrading/RMAing that laptop (especially the laptops) shortly after you bought it, it wasn't a good referral.
Edit: Quoted the wrong post...oh well.

They send that guy from their commercials to take care of all their service calls.

He's a computer nerd in the meaning that everything he does is computers, works, lives for computers.

I use Dells at work and I like them well enough. I bought a Dell desktop at home, and I'm really loving it (still, after one year). I bought my wife a Dell notebook for Christmas and she's loving it.
The only real trouble I've had with Dells involved two different scenarios:
1. Buying the latest cutting edge hardware only to have troubles with overheating, driver incompatibilities, etc. Lesson learned.
2. Trying to replace a CPU fan in an old Dimension desktop and discovering that Dell used non-standard motherboard clips and there's no way to get this thing installed (even though the seller says it worked fine with this exact model).

Right, that's almost the exact same thing that happened to me. Counts as trouble to me...

Dell recently started switching to non-proprietary parts, or so I hear.

One exam. Five math problems. One hour.
Easy, right?
Hahaha. No.
I barely finished in time and am pretty sure the hurry didn't help.
This probably isn't the time to go into my "Who was the idiot who invented math anyway?" rant, but you get the idea.

I so feel your pain. We should form a support group for the victims of math.

Having the flu for the past two weeks, and having to deal with Seren politics in the middle of it. No fun, no fun indeed.
Another rant, my phone line being broken essentially the last month and a half now. Forced to have dial-up because of where I live, and I'm not forking over 60 bucks a month for a two-year contract and a broadband card. Needless to say, my connection on the line I use for Lusty is running at best at 19.0 kbps. At worst, 2.3 kbps. It's ridiculous. Even for a 56k modem, that's just utterly ridiculous. Phone company has come up three times so far and can't fix it, and I can't change my service because they're the only one in the area. Hopefully, they said they're sending out a wire specialist this Friday. One can only hope this issue and finally damn fixed.

I don't hunt, raid, or defend on this connection. It was working fine when I duelled you that one time, but then failed miserably in the middle. But feel free to jump me when it gets fixed. God knows I could use the practice after being devoid of combat this long.
