Lack of rants.

I'm tired of people complaining about Glomdoring totems.

We've been tuned against the outside world for YEARS. Get over it. Yes, a few novices will get burnt now and then. But this is a harsh world with conflict. They'll live.

Narsrim's been in Celest half as long as me and is already above CR2 (not sure what Nobleman is) and a high-ranking Aquamancer. Just shows you that combat ability >>>>>>>> thinking ability.

Bah! Noola's CR3 already and she can't fight her way out of a wet paper sack. She got most of her cityfavours from writing for the library. That and helping to raise the supernals. Write something for the library!

People who teach novices should include a little "If you suddenly find yourself afflicted with odd ailments while exploring, you should call for help on the guild and city/commune aether and diagnose yourself to discover what you are suffering from" warning. That way the novices don't panic when/if it happens cause they were warned it might. Assuming of course all the guilds encourage learning diagnose early on...

Then take your own advice and live with the consequences, and don't complain about us complaining.

I'm sorry, tuning totems in a way that they can hit novices is wrong. Glomdoring SHOULD have made a public announcement about it. With that said, I did warn my guild about it, but warning people and giving them diagnose won't prevent it from ever happening. I doubt a novice is running around surveying every time they move rooms, etc.

Just to clear it up...

I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying, until it's not a problem they'll run into, I'm gonna be including that warning and in with my novice teaching curriculum and maybe others should too so novices don't panic and it it's worded right, they might be less likely to be put out and more likely to see it as part of the adventure of exploring.

I don't advocate hurting novices! Just warning them they might be hurt. biggrin.gif

SPEAK NOT OF THE EVIL THAT IS SUMMER HOMEWORK.

I'm just popping out to make snarky comments, that's all.
Forren2006-08-22 18:28:34
Glomdoring has every right to tune totems against non-Gloms. They don't hit through the Grace of Innocence.

Besides, it's common knowledge that Glomdoring doesn't want non-Gloms in the forest.
Diamondais2006-08-22 18:30:33
Verithtrax stop trying to take over the world with Starhaven, I dont think Ialie would like that.

This may be confusing, its because it is. Its a dream.

Ah, wasn't sure on the Innocence point.

In that case, shut up. Anyone who rejects innocence has it coming.
Noola2006-08-22 20:59:45
I didn't know that either! Thanks Forren! biggrin.gif I've been telling the couple of novices I've taught to keep their Grace anyway, now I'll have another reason to stress it.

I'll still give the warning though cause there's always someone who'll reject it just to be able to weave invisibility in illusions, which you can't do while under Grace of Innocence. smile.gif

Oh, so by rejecting innocence that means they have it coming?!

Yeah, no. What if that novice wants to reincarnate? They have to reject innocence in order to do so. Just because they reject innocence doesn't mean they're in any way involved in combat or killing or anything.

There is no such person, I'm afraid.

Sylphas2006-08-22 21:46:56
There is no way that was a real newbie. censor.gif alts.
Shayle2006-08-22 22:29:29
As a point of interest, and not because I care (because I am way past the point of actually caring about the innumerable complaints about Glomdoring), the totems that happen to be tuned against everyone are at the Spider's Larder (a good stroll from the Ravenwood, especially for a newbie) and I THINK the ones off the highway.

I used to get hit by totems all the time when I was a novice. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, it was Magnagora who had the Acknor statues tuned against the whole basin. Way back when, some nice Mag lady told Shayle (who was all messed up at the time) that it was because Serenwilde (*gasp*) had been tuning their totems against everyone. The HORROR. THE HYPOCRISY.

Yeah. Don't care. Rant on.
Vix2006-08-22 22:31:08
Don't think Seren's ever done that before. It was suggested that we tune Estelbar against all Mags because the unenemied ones would steal farmers, but I think it was turned down. Even if we did follow through that plan I think it was changed.

Seren did do it in Estelbar for a while. But it got changed after a couple weeks, in exchange for the Acknor totem being un-tuned as well. If I recall.
Veonira2006-08-22 23:12:35
I recall a few totems in Serenwilde forest that were improperly tuned to hit everyone (right off of the highway, too) and caught some novices. But they were fixed shortly after reported.
