November meet June, evil Necromancer!

My inspiration for Nierr'ta was mostly for something unique. Though I thought on it hard, and may have subconsciously been thinking of the Shadowheart's last dungeon (god dungeon) when I was designing it.

I voted for Other: Alien/Aliens/Alien3, Tyranids from Warhammer 40k
Okay, so not exactly spacecraft/space battle focused (unless you count the 'nid hive ships).
Basically, went with the organic thing instead of boring old metal, since algontherines are supposed to be living things and I just wanted to be a bit different.
A pulsating organic cavity.
The walls, floor and ceiling of this chamber are made of a fibrous tissue, deep
red in hue and glistening with a slimy mucous. Veins spider the surface of the
tissue in places, running dark blue with ichor and pulsating as the fluid is
pumped around the algontherine. The irregularly shaped cavity throbs
rhythmically as the walls contract and expand, the chamber resonating with a
deep pulsing sound. A large artery runs from the ceiling down a wall and across
the floor to the base of the energy collector here, spasming in time with the
room's beat. Sparking with arcs of power, an energy collector spirals up from
the floor here.
Icky, but I him/her/it all the same.

I barely know the other things, so I just filed my vote under Startrek -nod me-
Verithrax2006-11-19 02:34:27
I'm surprised Spelljammer isn't listed.
Unknown2007-03-12 20:27:06
Why just SF? Why not the Spelljammer series of books?
-EDIT Oop, just noticed above...

Serenity and its shows aren't listed.
I can't believe it wasn't listed...
Ka-KLUNK!
"What was that? Did something just fall off my ship?"
"Uh..."
"WHAT JUST FELL OFF MY SHIP???"

I had to vote other, because I've always pictured aetherships as similar to the airships from FF. That way, they stay fantasy-esque in my head, and don't make Lusternia all sci-fi.
Clise2007-03-13 01:50:02
Star Ocean!
Korben2007-03-13 02:11:03
Space Quest.

Now it's March.. it's evil!
Diamondais2007-03-13 02:52:47
Now.. why did you have to bring me into this?
Ashy2007-03-13 03:25:03
If someone remembers this show Kudos to you.
Genevieve2007-03-13 07:59:15
Farscape, definitely, I mean the aetherships are alive! Man I loved that show.

Awww, you can say "gorram", even Shiri won't censor that.

It's shaped like a phallus.

If you're talking about the Joss Whedon show FIREFLY, it's UP THERE! The movie was called Serenity, not the show! (And there was only one show and one movie).
That's like a Star Trek fan not finding that listed because they expect it to be called Enterprise!
As for Spelljammer, I deliberately left it out because (a) I was looking for movie/TV shows. Plus, I get mad at Spelljammer because TSR tried to apply the settings to other worlds which weren't a fit. I always saw Krynn/Dragonlance as being isolated, and Oerth's cosmology didn't fit Gygax's original notes (which implied "real world" space and vacuum, not fantasy ships). Same reason I hate Planescape, meta-settings taking over what fits the campaign worlds. Rant over...

And actually, for more Aethership Inspiration, I found this need little comparative diagram of several of these classic ships when compared to one another.

Yes, I'm sad to say I watched that pathetic show for a year back in college, it was the only thing on cable at that late hour. I don't remember what the name of the show was... and that's most likely for the best with how bad the script was. The plot.. well the plot could have been good, with different actors/acting/sets/writing/ect, but it was just horrible instead. And Aiakon, it’s supposed to be bug shaped, one of characters was part-bug if my memory serves me. Something about previous heads(hidden pun here for those who get it) of the empire are on the ship, and some big death-ray the ship has access to as well.
Oh I think the main character is a corpse as well.
I'd really rather have not remembered all of that.
